Morocco (country code +212)

Communication of 23.I.2009:

The Agence Nationale de Réglementation des Télécommunications (ANRT), Rabat, announces that, as from 7 March 2009 at 0200 hours UTC, numbers in Morocco’s national numbering plan will increase to ten (10) digits from the current nine (9) digits. This change has been made necessary by the considerable expansion in mobile networks, resulting in increased demand for numbering resources, particularly where services provided via mobile telephony networks are concerned.

This change does not concern calls made from Morocco to other countries, special services or emergency numbers.

The new numbering plan takes the following format:

1) International incoming calls:

a) To a fixed number currently beginning +212 2 or +212 3: insert the digit 5 between the country code +212 and the 2, or between the +212 and the 3.

• Example:

+212 2 XXX XXXX becomes +212 52 XXX XXXX +212 3 XXX XXXX becomes +212 53 XXX XXXX

b) To a mobile number currently beginning +212 1, +212 4, +212 5, +212 6 or +212 7: insert the digit 6 between the country code +212 and the 1, +212 and the 4, +212 and the 5, +212 and the 6, or +212 and the 7.

• Example:

+212 1 XXX XXXX becomes +212 61 XXX XXXX +212 4 XXX XXXX becomes +212 64 XXX XXXX +212 5 XXX XXXX becomes +212 65 XXX XXXX +212 6 XXX XXXX becomes +212 66 XXX XXXX +212 7 XXX XXXX becomes +212 67 XXX XXXX

c) To numbers currently beginning +212 8 or +212 9: replace the 8 with 80 and the 9 with 89.

• Example:

+212 8 XXX XXXX becomes +212 80 XXX XXXX +212 9 XXX XXXX becomes +212 89 XXX XXXX

2) National calls

a) To a fixed number currently beginning 02 or 03: replace the 02 with 052 and the 03 with 053.

• Example:

02 XXX XXXX becomes 052 XXX XXXX 03 XXX XXXX becomes 053 XXX XXXX

• Example:

01 XXX XXXX becomes 061 XXX XXXX 04 XXX XXXX becomes 064 XXX XXXX 05 XXX XXXX becomes 065 XXX XXXX 06 XXX XXXX becomes 066 XXX XXXX 07 XXX XXXX becomes 067 XXX XXXX

c) To numbers currently beginning 08 or 09: replace the 08 with 080 and the 09 with 089.
