So unfortunately the days of parking our cars up on the grass

of the college are behind us now thanks to our good friends, the clampers. Many would have been further discouraged at the start of the year to find that the extended Car Park around the back is now un-der construction. So now we’re minus another 60 spaces! So until the new parking spaces comes in, here is a handy guide to parking in IT Tallaght.For guaranteed parking in the morning you have to get into the college before 9.00 am, which if you’re like me and all your classes start at ten, is not very ideal.

If you’re parking in the college from 9.00 – 13.00 you’ll most likely end up parked behind the orderly queue of cars waiting be-side the entrance round the back, for anyone who might be leaving soon. You may also be expected to give the stranger a 5 second lift down to their car in which you get to force an awkward con-versation that usually goes something along the lines of “Parking’s terrible isn’t it?” “Yeah, awful”. Uncomfortable silence... “Thanks” “No bother”.Unfortunately waiting in the queue can take ages and there’s always the odd couple of cars shark-ing around the car park hoping to nick the space.

Well there is some good news in that

the extended car park cur-rently under construction will be back in the next week. Might even be back by the time you’re reading this. And even more good news is that the college is working on 200 new spaces! That’s 70 over by the Dublin West Education Centre and 130 in between the Creche and Synergy building. Only problem

is it won’t be finished till April/May of 2012. As well as this there are further plans to extend the college building soon after which will subsequently end up removing 100 of these new car spaces. Still progress though, I guess.

So until the new parking comes in I wish you the best of luck and if this doesn’t help well there’s always the luas!

If there are any other spaces we’ve left out

please let us know! Unless it’s a really good secret one, in which case you should probably keep it to yourself.

1. The Square: Free parking for the first two hours! But after that it’s 2 euro an hour. Some people like to sneak off midway through class before the 2 hours are up, drive the car out, then drive it back in for another 2 hours. But that might sound like a lot of effort and I can’t recommend it anyway or we’ll get in trouble.

2. Airton Road: Free parking as it’s an industrial estate, just don’t park in any of the company parking spots. Good ten minute walk from there to the college though. 3. DID Car Park: Best spot if you’re in college for the day. 4 euro for 24 hours, 3 euro if you get the student thing (Ask at the entrance). It’s also safe to leave overnight if you have no where else to leave your car. There’s also parking around the Smyths area but it’s pay per hour.

4. AIB Bank Parking Lot: Village Green: There’s only about twenty odd spaces but you can park there from 9.00 – 17.00 free of charge. Though it is supposed to be for AIB customers only and you are going to get stared out of it by the queue of cars that wait for a spaces outside once they spot your school bag and cop what you’ve been at. There’s parking in village green as well but again it’s pay per hour.

The Apartments Car Park: The spots beside the metro. Not because there’s

a code you need to get in, which is hardly cryptic, but because the staff in there are getting very suspicious lately of any cars they don’t recognize. And they’re not buying the “I’m just visiting my sister who lives here” line anymore. Haven’t heard of anyone getting clamped in there mind and there are plenty of spaces but still not worth the interrogation you get if they spot you.

Parking beside the Metro: That little space to the right of the pub, don’t park there. You’ll get a ticket. Don’t try parking at the entrance to the church either for the same reason.

Parking on the margins of a car space line: It’s not a space and you will get clamped if you park there, nice idea though. Don’t Park there either.

Beyoncé - 4

Beyoncé seems to be doing the ol’ Led Zeppelin trick with her fourth album titled ‘4’. ‘Run the World (Girls),’ the first single taken from the album, seems to be that new formula of the Beyoncé factory of hits that stick to the principle of ‘why don’t we stick Beyoncé’s voice over that great dance song’, in this case being Major Lazer’s song from a couple of years ago ‘Pon De Floor,’ This formula has earned her number ones every couple of years, but unlike others this is utter shite. 4 is a good Beyonce album, it’s not going to change or rule the world but that probably doesn’t matter.

James Morrison - The Awakening Now I firstly have to say that James Morrison has thrown up some guilty pleasures for me, ‘You Give Me Some-

thing’ found me singing along in the car in what can only been described as a cringe worthy moment. I actually don’t remember what I liked about it, maybe it was the fact it was everywhere, it was inoffensive and it got stuck in my head. Morrison seemed to be forgotten, lost in the bunch of singer songwriters that seemed to be knocking about in 2009. Well he’s back, and it’s not the great triumphant return that you were expecting. In a genre that you could call ‘mum music’ Halfway through this album I found myself getting very bored. Skip ‘Beautiful Life’.

Bombay Bicycle Club- A Different Kind of Fix

Three albums in two years is pretty impressive by any standards, but Bombay Bicycle Club are a pretty impres-sive band. Capable of throwing the odd curveball while maintaining an overall cohesion, the songs come on relentlessly on this album and you can’t help but being impressed. The piano chords on lead single ‘Shuffle’ get stuck in your head and you can’t help but have a smile on your face. Third album in and Bombay Bicycle Club have done well, very very well. Tracks to skip to: ’Lights Out, Words Gone’ ‘Shuffle’.

Easy Medium Hard

Kasabian – Velociraptor!

Kasabian have long since taken the mantle off Oasis for the ultimate bloke band, their songs evoke the sounds of football, pot noodles and fights in a chipper. This new offering - ‘Velociraptor!’ - is something different from the band, it is far from the perfect pop album but fans and haters alike will be surprised by the album. There’s nothing straight-forward about it, each song seems to be another genre, some work, some don’t. Overall it will mostly please older fans, but it might even attract some new ones. Tracks to skip to: ‘Switchblade Smiles’. ‘Let’s Roll Just Like We Used To’.

Emma Nolan talks to Neil Delamere after his show in IT Tallaght in which he performed to hundreds of

students during Freshers’ Week.

Hey Neil, you’ve just come off stage how do you think the gig went?

Yeah it was great fun I have to say, the audience were really up for it. Everything was well set up here, sometimes you go to colleges you haven’t been to before and the set ups are not as good as they were here, so it was great fun I have to say.

So what was your biggest break?

The Panel, without doubt. I did a few things in 2004, I did the Montréal Just for Laughs Festival and I did my first Edinburgh Festival. From the Just for Laughs spot that was on TV here, the producer of The Panel got in touch. And once I got in as a regular on The Panel you can tour, and you get offered your own shows, so that was definitely the break. It opened a lot of doors for me.

As a comedian who inspires you or who would you pay to see?

Hmmm I think to pay, I would go and see Stuart Lee, Mitch Hedberg is amazing but unfortunately he’s not with us anymore. Someone like Daniel Kitson, maybe these are names that people wouldn’t necessarily be fa-miliar with. They are some acts that have made it from the Edinburgh festival that would be big in the UK. I would always go to see Dara O’Briain and Tommy Tiernan, I wouldn’t pay to see them though (laughs), I’d text them or have to ring ahead!

The man was a genius; in terms of the way he wrote things. Just the rhythm of his delivery, it was so eloquent. It a great thing ‘cause it can show you how dif-ferent comedy can be. You can have someone telling long stories, someone telling one-liners or someone telling sur-real one-liners like Mitch Hedberg

Would Mitch be one of the ones that inspired you to get into comedy?

No I actually discovered him a bit later, when I had done comedy for a while. The people who influenced me were when I was in College, Ardal O Hanlon and Tommy Tiernan. They had done the BBC ‘stand up show’, It was on about half 12 when you’d come in from the pub, and you saw these guys you could relate too, they spoke like me and they came from a similar background. They made it as comedians and it suddenly became an option. I wasn’t really aware of it as a job, some of the guys were so good, so slick, so polished and so funny that I thought that ‘maybe I’d like to try this’. I had no intention of doing it as a job though; I just wanted to do it once.

It might only be out little under a month, but Tomas Alfredson’s

adaption of John le Carre’s classic espionage novel is already staking its claim in cinematic history and it’s easy to why. From the opening sequence between a British spy and a Hungar-ian General, which doesn’t go quite as planned, Al-fredson echoes the assas-sination scene in the first Godfather by using the rumble of a nearby train to build tension and suspense as one character’s paranoia gets the better of him. This scene nails down the tone and style for the entire pic-ture and acts as the hook that will eventually reel you in over the two hours it takes place.

The most impor-tant thing about this film is George Smiley and the

man who plays him, Gary Oldman. The marriage between character and actor is one that is bound to stand the test time. Smiley is brought back from forced retirement to uncover a double agent planted by the Soviet Un-ion in the highest ranks of MI6. Everything about Oldman’s performance is Oscar worthy; the guts of the character is not portrayed in words and actions but rather in mood, atmosphere and body lan-guage.

It would also ap-pear that more prefect marriages are at work, in fact, the entire film works together on all levels to create constant rhythm and pace that almost be-comes hypnotic at times. Whether it is the sound of bird wings flip-flapping

blended with typewriters chit-chattering or how the camera glides through the opening credit sequence in sync with the Alberto Igle-sias’s moody score this film leaves no aspect of its film-making to chance. The film also sports one of the best supporting casts in recent memory: Colin Firth, John Hurt, Mark Strong, Toby Jones and Tom Hardy all add the cherry to the icing at the top of this cake. Each actor gives a memorable performance no matter

how small a part they play. Like the storyline each small puzzle piece makes the film fits together per-fectly.

The only issue I had with the film was the complex storyline and the slow moving first half. As I haven’t read the book or watched the seven-part television series I knew nothing about the story other than what the trailer gave away. The first thing I quickly realised was I would have to work to keep

Movie Reviewstrack of the layered plots and subplots, and this is before we attempt to fig-ure out who the traitor is. Because of this the audi-ence might be left feeling a scene or two behind the action. The pacing, though brilliant, is quite slow and cumbersome at times and left me struggling for con-sciousness.

Any problems the film might have are overweighed by its many positives. With twists that hit you in face when you don’t quite expect them, chemistry between charac-ters that’s smoother than its 70’s style and suspense that rivals Hitchcock, Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy marks itself down as the ‘Citizen Kane’ of spy mov-ies.

Ryan Gosling stars as a Los Angeles wheel-

man for hire, stunt driving for movie productions by day and steering getaway vehicles for armed heists by night. Though a loner by nature, Driver can’t help falling in love with his beautiful neighbour Irene (Carey Mulligan), a vulnerable young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband Standard (Oscar Isaac). Af-ter a heist intended to pay off Standard’s protection money spins unpredictably out of control, Driver finds himself driving defence for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly

serious criminals. Verdict-This film

is no antic-frantic affair; instead, it’s a cerebral game of stop-and-go, hide-and-seek, as the director behind the camera handles things exactly like the guy behind the wheel - with a stylish mixture of cold cal-culation and cool aplomb.

At fortysomething, straight-laced Cal

Weaver (Steve Carell) is living the dream-good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart. But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his “perfect” life quickly unravels. Worse,

in today’s single world, Cal, who hasn’t dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of “unsmooth”. Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protégé to handsome, thir-tysomething player Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling).

Verdict- This is not the ultimate roman-tic comedy - the one that makes you fall as hard for the characters as they do for one another while savouring their every in-teraction - but it seems fresher and less recycled than much of the product out there.

For as long as he can remember, Nathan

Harper (Taylor Lautner) has had the uneasy feeling that he’s living someone else’s life. When he stum-bles upon an image of himself as a little boy on a missing persons’ website, all of Nathan’s darkest fears come true: he real-izes his parents are not his own and his life is a lie, carefully fabricated to hide something more mysteri-ous and dangerous than he could have ever imagined.

Verdict- Perhaps the only way to approach Abduction that will not result in a 105-minute boredom-induced coma is to think of it as a comedy, preferably with a drinking game attached.

Winter Fashion:Dublin’s Vintage

When I asked him the key reason for success he has gathered with the Hoops he said “Shamrock Rovers is a massive club on its way up, the manager came in and gave us as much of a pro-fessional set up as he could and it paid off in the last three seasons with win-

ning the league, Setanta Cup and our current run in Europe”.Stevens begins his sen-sational route to the Premiership in January when he joins up with his Villa colleagues. He will be Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish’s second player signed from the League of Ireland, thus proving the potential of the Irish league. When he first heard of interest, he said “I was shocked at first, but delighted that a team of that stature would be interested in me but I feel I am capable of making the step up”. Enda dedicated his recent success to hav-ing a great manager and coaching staff, to which he says “have improved my game massively”The young Irishman will hopefully follow in the footsteps of players such as Kevin Doyle, Shane Long and Keith Fahey. All of whom have signed from League of Ireland clubs. And who have represented their Country at senior level. Enda has already earned himself two Ire-land U-21 caps for Ireland against Cyprus and Austria and has his eyes firmly on his first senior cap. Like many others, he has a dream of representing his country. With his current form and commitment, there is no doubt that the future is promising for the Dublin lad.

10. Carlos Tevez: This man cannot speak a word of English and he’s living in the country five years. He still needs a translator! No wonder he complains about being homesick. If he’s such a work horse maybe he should pick up an English book or something. Don’t even get me started on him refusing to come off the bench. Maybe when they screwed his head back on they forgot to pop the brain back in.

9. Karl Henry: When it comes to this fella, he tries to make a name for himself by kicking other players. The only reason he’s not higher up on the list is because I see a little of myself in him.

8. Marc-Antoine Fortune: The fact that I thought this lad was still up in Scotland with Celtic says it all! To clear it up for everybody he’s back with West Brom and has been since January 2010 who knew?

7. Rory Delap: It’s a bad sign when you’re a professional footballer and the only thing you are renowned for is throwing the ball! Enough said.

6. Kieran Dyer: I’ll make this one quick we all know the only reason this lad’s on the list is because he’s made of paper. Do you know when the batteries die in your remote but you don’t throw them out in the hope that one day when you need them they’ll come good again and find the form that they had in their glory days , well that’s a bit like Kieran Dyer we all know these batteries are dead but we hope one day he’ll return to his glory days.

5. Heurelho Gomes: Without doubt the worst goalkeeper in the Premier League. I’ve heard people say he’s a great shot stopper, but as Rafa Benitez once said “If there’s white liquid in a bottle it’s milk” (which I think means “the proof is in the pudding”) we don’t have to look too hard to find some of this man’s absolute blunders (games against Chelsea and Real Madrid come to mind).

4. Nicolas Bendtner: There’s only one man in the world that doesn’t think Nicolas Bendtner shouldn’t be on this list and that man is Nicolas Bendtner. This man lives in his own fairytale world, he believes one day he will be the best striker in the world and currently reckons he’s in the top four best strikers in the Premier League today, even though he’s never even finished inside the top ten of the Premier Leagues top goalscorers. It’s because of this reason I’ve placed him at No.4 in my list (ironically)

3. Wayne Bridge: Still plays for Manchester City! I couldn’t believe it my-self. You can’t even buy him in fantasy football, apparently he was told he could talk to other clubs as he was not in the mangers plan, they even accepted a bid from West Ham, but a deal couldn’t be done as Bridge refused to “shake” on the deal (Not for the first time). If he had any other job I’d call him a genius as he has found a way to get paid for six months without doing a bit of work, but he’s a professional footballer who gets paid to play a game that most of us play for free.

2. Titus Bramble: “Steve Bruce is responsible for me being the player I am today”, it can’t be all his fault Titus, you’ve got to take some of the blame too. A centre half that is yet to master the simple pass back to the keeper. Just when you think things couldn’t get any worse for young Titus, he gets himself arrested for sexual assault and possession of a class A drug. Maybe a season or two playing for a prison football team will get him back on the right track... if he can get a game.

1. Salif Diao: Once asked Steven Gerrard if he thought the Liverpool fans would be angry if he moved to Everton to which the Liverpool skipper replied “No”. Proud Tobe Irish

Despite field-ing teams that are

able to take on the best in the world, Ireland’s Rugby World Cup history to date has been disappointing. Ireland were eliminated by Australia in the semi-finals of the inaugural Rugby World Cup, with the two teams again meeting in the quarter-finals of the 1991 Rugby World Cup in what many agree was one of the best games in Rugby World Cup history when a last minute try by Australia prevented what would have been a signifi-cant RWC victory.

Ireland could not move past the quarter-finals of the next three Rugby World Cups, and

were unable to progress beyond the group stage of the 2007 Rugby World Cup despite being consid-ered capable of making it to the semi-finals.

Former All Black, and one of the greatest players ever - Jonah Lomu - who has scored more Rugby World Cup tries than any other player, be-fore it all kicked off, picked the Irish team as the team that could be the dark horse at the 2011 Rugby World Cup. He is a be-liever that Ireland has both the desire and experience to win crucial matches at the RWC 2011, with play-ers like Brian O’Driscoll, Paul O’Connell and Ronan O’Gara giving everything they have got in their last

Rugby World Cup, and he wasn’t wrong.

Ireland shocked many people when they ran out 15 – 6 winners against an Australian side tipped to win the whole tournament. It was a col-lective result that had every player working in the same direction. After that match Ireland had done enough; to make everybody proud of them, they can come home and be welcomed by the masses whenever or should I say if they fail. People can be proud of this team to no end and more importantly, this team has once again made us proud to be Irish.

back memories of World Cup fever which Ireland fans will be dying to relive having only been exposed to it on a handful of oc-casions, and for that he deserves a large amount of credit.

Coming between Ireland and a spot at Euro 2012 (or at least the play-offs) is an away trip to Andorra and a home tie against Armenia. Andorra are set to finish bottom of Group B without a solitary point registered so far this campaign. Having notched up a comfortable 3-1 vic-tory in the home fixture, Ireland will be hoping for a relatively straightforward victory allowing them to focus on the trickier test which will be posed by Armenia at the Aviva Sta-dium. Currently ranked 203rd in the world, hav-ing conceded 17 goals and

scored just 1 so far this campaign, Andorra appear unlikely to pose a huge threat to Ireland’s qualifi-cation hopes. If they man-age to overcome Andorra, Ireland face a crucial home tie against Armenia on October 11th. Armenia re-corded a shock 4-0 victory against Slovakia in their last game which has left them with an unexpected chance of qualification. Having gone about their business quietly so far, they will fancy their chanc-es of going through, fac-ing a home game against Macedonia before the big game against Ireland. Ireland currently lie 2nd in the group on 15 points, 2 points behind Russia on 17, while Slovakia and Armenia are hot on their heels with 14 points each. With Russia not yet quali-fied and facing a tough test

away to Slovakia, the group is wide open for any of the top 4 sides to qualify. The good news for Ireland is that their fate lies in their own hands as they know that 2 victories will guar-antee them at least a play-off spot and could possibly see them top the group. With such a massive week of football ahead of them, all Ireland fans can do is pray that the players can handle the pressure and deliver them the European berth that they desperately crave.

Enda Stevens, A south Dublin lad of 21 years em-barks on a jour-

ney of a lifetime. Currently contracted to Shamrock Rovers he has recently signed for Premiership giants Aston Villa.
