    Introduction

Inter connection is basically connection of two or morenetworks, usually local area networks so that data can pass

between hosts on the different networks as though they wereone network

While technology changes at a rapid pace, so with it theupgradation of Internet connections also takes place

There are a wide ranges of internet connections and choice ofinternet connection by an individual depends on your locationand budget

    Dialup Connection

Dial-up connections are the most common type of Internet

    Connection for home users.

Dial-up connections today are considered the slowest but the

    reputation of being most inexpensive

A dialup connection uses a modem, phone line and ISP

    Bandwidth 24 to 56 Kbps.

    Dial Up Connection

Uses POTS (Plain Old Telephone System)

On the Customer End Modem is connected to a TelephoneLine.

With an analogue connection, a subscriber connects to the

internet by dialing up a phone number gotten from an ISP

The modem converts Incoming data from analogue to digital

    and the reverse

    Cable Connection

A Cable modem is a type of internet connection that allowsconnection via cable TV lines

Cable connection offers very fast and reliable connections withfixed monthly fee

Cable connections use a different medium to connect you to the

Internet, it will not be affected by use telephone.

The Cable internet connection uses TV channels for data

    transmission.

    Cable Connection

Cable TV uses coaxial cable, which support higher bandwidththan telephone lines do.

Broadband is a general name for cable, satellite and DSL types ofinternet connections

Cable broadband Internet connections offer data transfer rates

of approximately 1.5 Mbps up to 7.5 Mbps.

    DSL Broadband

Digital Subscriber Line or DSL, uses 2-wire copper telephonelines and it does not require dialing in to an ISP

DSL connections are becoming widely available and can provide

you with an excellent Internet connection.

DSLallows you to use the phone normally while connected to

    the internet.

DSL operates at bandwidth of 512 kbps up to 20 mbps.

    DSL Broadband

The disadvantage ofDSL connections can be costlier than dialup

There are different categories ofDSL and they are SDSL, VDSLand ADSL.

    Tier Carrier

These types of internet connections are used by Internet Service

Providers (ISP) to connect to the internet backbone

    They are of 3 types T1, T2 and T3.

The main difference between T-1,T-2,T-4 and T-3 internet

connections are the number of individual channels

Each individual channel, that can carry both data and voice

traffic, has a band width close to 64Kbps

    14/22

    Tier Connection

A T-1 line consists of 26 individual channels whereas T-3 has

    672 individual channels

Therefore, if you do the mathematics for T-3 lines, we are talking

about 43Mbps or more. T-5 is up to 400Mbps.

    DedicatedLeasedLine

A dedicated leased line is a point-to-point, high speed

communication line that directly connects your computer to your

    ISPs network.

The speed of internet access depends on the type of leased line

    you have.

Analog leased line can provide maximum bandwidth of 9.6

    Kbps.

    DedicatedLeasedLine

Digital leased lines can provide bandwidths 64 Kbps

Dedicate Leased Line is much more expensive than the DSL andCable Connection.

    InternetoverSatellite

Satellite connection provides uninterrupted internet connectivity.

Internet over Satellite uses a communication satellite that is on astationary position in orbit.

Due to the huge distance the data has to be transmitted, thespeed of satellite is a bit lower than Broadband types of internetconnections.

Average bandwidth at which it operates is 500Kbps

    Optical Cable

Fiber-optic is the most common internet connection

It has the highest data rates compared to other types of internetconnections after internet2

    It is easy to maintain

There are three types of fiber-optic internet connections and

they are the plastic optical fiber, single mode, and multimode.

    Its bandwidth is 1Gbps+

    Internet2

Internet2 provides the highest internet speed connectivity

It was developed by a networking consortium to meet the high-speed internet demand for research and education work

It has a speed of 100Gbps

The use of internet2 is not common
