Welcome back for Term 4

Hello and welcome to what promises to be a busy but rewarding, term 4 for us all at CSPS. Welcome to a

new student Jack, who joined our school today. We hope that he settles in well with us.

This week began with a visit from some New Zealand school leaders from two leading schools in Auckland,

Opaheke School and Flanshaw Road School, who have been visiting the Australian Centre for Educational

Leadership National conference and visited our school amongst some others while in Victoria. We have

always worked hard to build partnerships with other schools, both locally and nationally and occasionally,

internationally. We were glad to take this opportunity to share some of our practice and learning and I

thank our students and staff for taking the time to do so. Some of the learning we have made with regard

to Student Led Conferences and student voice, has come from our visit to New Zealand and our work with

Flanshaw Road School so it was good to share our growth in this area with them. We thank Sean, Denise,

Maggie and their staff for our visit and look forward to working with them in the future.

Western Bulldogs AFL Premiership

As you may be aware I along with Miss McKinley, are both life long Wester Bulldogs supporters so for us

the term break was a roller coaster of emotions culminating in what was an amazing grand final.

When in leadership you often look at things, which motivate and encourage people to give their best and

strive for excellence whether it be football, school or life in general. For me one of the key things which

stood out in this experience, was the level of belief from the Bulldogs group and their willingness to not set

themselves limits to their expectations and their ability to (despite the setbacks with injuries), keep finding

a way to fill positions and solve problems. This resonated with me because this is inline with our work on

growth mindsets and our metacognitive models.

Year 3/4 Camp Sunnystones

This week I will be joining our Year 3/4 team at camp Sunnystones, which is an excellent camp with lots of

challenges, outdoor adventure experiences and environmental experiences. I look forward to the camp

and hope to see our students having a wonderful time together. Whilst I am on camp, Mr. McCredden will

be Acting Principal

Staffing and ongoing process outcome

Late last term we held a process for internal ongoing positions for eligible contract staff within our school.

I can announce that Mrs. Marinelli, Mr. Pidd and Mr. Hanson were the successful applicants in this process

and we look forward to them continuing with us at Clifton Springs Primary School in an ongoing role. In the

near future, we will be working through our staffing process for 2017 and will advertise our other

vacancies in due course.

Year 1/2 Sleep over Next Friday

As part of our new and extended camps program next Friday night is our 1/2 sleepover night. Facilities Upgrades

Our Senior toilets are looking to be back in action in the near future (hopefully by next week) but in the

mean time students will have to continue to use the junior toilets.

Classroom upgrades

Whilst we have had a few setbacks on the way, the building works have continued over the holidays with

lots of activity across the school. At this stage, the middle classroom space is nearing completion and we

will then be able to move onto the East wing of our main building. The external works and verandas are

being constructed and internally much of the cabinetry has been installed. We are hoping that the works

in the Eastern wing are completed shortly so we can then make further arrangements for classes that may

have to be moved in coming weeks.

Maker Faire at Matthew Flinders Girls Secondary College

This week Miss Duim will be taking a group of students into MGGSC to take part in a Maker Faire, which is

a hands on technology based problem solving activity. We look forward to hearing them share their

learning from this event with other students. CSPS Holiday Program

Congratulations to Jeff and the CSPS OSHC team for holding another successful vacation care program

over the September holidays.

Until next term, I wish everyone a wonderful week and a safe and restful holiday and remind all families

that maximising attendance is a critical factor in your child achieving their potential so, remember it’s not

OK to be away unless you’re sick!

END OF AN ERA The increase in the number of food stalls at

the Drysdale market over the last few years,

has seen a marked decline in our profits,

especially for the amount of effort that goes

into each market.

As a result, the Clifton Springs Primary School

Council has decided that we will no longer run

the BBQ van at the Drysdale markets as one of

our major fundraising activities.

There have been numerous volunteers

involved over the many, many years the

food van has been running and I would

like to thank everyone of them,

especially those who have been involved in my 8

years, for their support and donating their

time. THE FUTURE

We will now look towards holding a couple of

Bunnings BBQ’s a year to fund raise and

hopefully will have our first at the new Leopold

Bunnings this term!

CD’S FOR SCIENCE Mrs Driscoll is looking for

donations of old CD’s or DVD’s.

If you have any at home that are

no longer needed, please bring to the

office!

COMPASS UPDATE Many families received log in details to access their COMPASS account on the last day of term 3. Hopefully you have all logged in, created a specific password and looked at the first Learning Task for your child/ren. You can also use COMPASS to approve/view your child’s absences. This is just the beginning of COMPASS and over the next few weeks there will be more information about what new additions become ‘Live’. Look for regular Compass updates in the newsletters. If you are yet to return your Compass permission slips, please do so ASAP and you will receive log in details from there.

If you have any questions please speak to your child’s teacher or contact Ben or Brent on 5251 3581.

Clifton Springs Primary School INTER-HOUSE WALK—A-THON

Major School Fundraiser – Friday October 28th 11am -1pm

October is Walk to School month so to celebrate,

we will be having a WALK-A-Thon on October the 28th.

All students have been given a Sponsorship Form to bring home and

can continue to collect sponsors

until Friday November 4th.

There are over 75 prizes to choose from ranging from $10 to $600+. The list of prizes can

be viewed in the sponsorship form and on posters around the school.

All students are expected to participate as part of the whole school fitness program.

Students can elect to run or walk. The Walk-A-Thon will be conducted around the school

and A LAP will be a selected distance. The aim will be to complete as many laps as

possible.

Each class will then total their laps and see how far the whole class has walked.

The class that walks the furthest distance, will get a class party

HOW FAR CAN WE WALK?

Last year we walked 3553km and made it from Clifton Springs to Ledge Point (just above Perth in Western Australia!).

How far can we walk this year?

Parents are more than welcome to help as extra hands

are always needed and appreciated! (No dogs please)

BBQ LUNCH As the Walk—a—thon will finish at lunchtime, we are inviting all family

members and fellow walkers to join us for a BBQ lunch at school.

An order form will be sent home shortly.

AFTER THE WALK-A-THON

Once the fundraiser is complete, please cut out the ‘how to claim your prize section’

on the sponsorship form and return along with your money to the school office by

Friday November 4th .

Please be sure to fill out your prize request. The individual prizes will delivered

shortly after.

In addition to the fantastic prize program on offer,

**The highest fundraising student will be awarded with a 2GB MP3 player.

Happy Fundraising and we look forward to seeing you on the day. Thanks everyone for your fundraising support!

SIBLING RIVALRY While many kids are lucky enough to become the best of friends with their siblings, it's common for brothers and sisters to fight. (It's also common for them to swing back and forth between adoring and detesting one other!) It can be frustrating and upsetting to watch — and hear — your kids fight with one another. A house-hold that's full of conflict is stressful for everyone. Often it's hard to know how to stop the fighting, or even whether you should get involved at all. But you can take steps to promote peace in your household and help your kids get along. Why Kids Fight Many different things can cause siblings to fight. Most brothers and sisters experience some degree of jealousy or competition, and this can flare into squabbles and bickering. But other factors also might influence how often kids fight and how severe the fighting gets.

These include:

Evolving needs. It's natural for kids' changing needs, anxieties, and identities to affect how they relate to one another. For example, toddlers are naturally protective of their toys and belongings, and are learning to assert their will, which they'll do at every turn. So if a baby brother or sister picks up the toddler's toy, the older child may react aggressively.

School-age kids often have a strong concept of fairness and equality, so might not understand why siblings of other ages are treated differently or feel like one child gets preferential treatment. Teenagers, on the other hand, are developing a sense of individuality and independence, and might resent helping with household responsibilities, taking care of younger siblings, or even having to spend time together. All of these differences can influence the way kids fight with one another.

2016 Bellarine Division Athletics Championships Congratulations to our seven athletes who participated in the Bellarine Division Athletics

Championships on Thursday, 15th September at Landyfield. Having excelled at our House

Athletics and then at the District Athletics, the following students went on to compete

against 68 other schools at the Bellarine Division Championships. It was awesome to have this

number of athletes competing at such a high level.

Having been postponed once due to the weather, conditions were still a little problematical on

the day. However, the morning saw all of our athletes compete in their chosen event. A

special mention to Bronny Illsley who made it through to the finals in both the 100m and 200m

sprints. These finals were due to take place in the afternoon, however due to the Barwon

River bursting its banks, the finals were cancelled and times from the heats were used to

determine the students who would go through to the Regional Competition.

Unfortunately, Bronny narrowly missed out but is to be congratulated on her outstanding

achievement.

A big thank you to Mr Hanson who accompanied the students on the day and assisted

with transport and to the parents who came to cheer our team.

Congratulations to each of the following individuals who represented Clifton Springs

Primary School with pride, enthusiasm and with an awesome display of sportsmanship.

Josie T. (12/13 Girls Long Jump), Bronny I. (12/13 Girls 200m and 100m sprints), Adam

T.(11 Boys Triple Jump), Luke A. (11 Boys Discuss), Alannah G. (11 Girls Long Jump),

Erika V. (10 Girls Shot Put), Mim H. (11 Girls Discuss).
