I have to start out my monthly message by saying I miss you all. I look forward to getting together on the first Thursday and seeing our meeting place fill with our fellow club members. It is definitely not to hear me talk. The pizza adds to the event, but it is the people wanting to be together that make out meetings worth attending. We are independent people, but we are social beings and our time together has value. The Corvettes are a significant bond, but in reality, they are just a means to get us from one place to another, and look nice as they do so. I miss saying hello and shaking hands and giving a hug to the huggers. I enjoy the visiting going on and the conversations and catching up. I miss all of you and looking forward to the activities and events resuming. I miss the caravans and our well-planned destination outings. I miss Taste-of-the-Town. Our club means much to me and I hope it does to you as well. “Safer at Home” was obviously, in some way, intended to keep us safe and the restrictions we endure might just do that. The debate is ongoing. Nevertheless restrictions appear to be part of our life now, at least for the near future. With that said, your board has determined that all events we had on our calendar had to be cancelled and our club events will only resume when we are given a green light to again move forward in a more normal fashion. We are still a club however. We are entering our 42nd year and we intend to remain the best Corvette club around for a long time to come. Our current situation has exposed us to new innovations such as conducting both our board meeting and our general meeting over the internet using the Zoom app. Both meetings went well in April and we will continue doing so until we are free to assemble once again. Our General Meeting for May will be on Thursday, May 7th at 7:30 PM and I will send meeting link information to you by email. Hope to see your faces Thursday. No hugging allowed, but masks are not required. With the longevity of the club in mind, nominations for Board of Director election for the 2020 – 2021 club year has been going on throughout April. We need your help in filling upcoming vacancies on the Board. With that, ballots will be coming to you in May and I ask all of you to vote and return your ballots on time. If you wish to call me to talk about how you might help the club in the coming year, please do so, My Corvette is clean, it is detailed, it is filled with lower-priced gas and is ready to roll, and so am I when we get the “green flag”. Over the past two months, we have been admonished to use an abundance of caution in meeting and assembling and some of you may be hesitant to get together when we are given a longer leash. It is understandable. Some of us just drive from A to B, while others may enjoy a “track day”. It is all part of one club and this club, the SCVCC, has a place for everyone. Keep taking care of yourself and your loved ones along with your Corvette and we will be back together again. Handshakes optional.

2020 – 2021 Board of Directors Election

Our club needs your help. In the past couple years, we have experienced some speed bumps and were rolling smoothly into 2020 when the brakes were put on by “Safer at Home” directives. Our leashes will surely be lengthened at some point and our club will resume our Corvette centered activities.

To do so, it takes you, the members, to make it happen. Changes are projected for the Board in the upcoming 2020 – 2021 club year with likely vacancies in the board positions of Treasurer, Communications, and Quartermaster. The Activities Committee needs your help as well.

We are currently seeking nominations for board positions for the new year and we want your help to assure we are ready to roll when our current restrictions are lifted. Please consider your own nomination for the board elections that will take place in May.

If you wish to discuss how you can help and assure our club well being as we enter our 42nd year, give me a call and we can talk.

President, Mike Woodings called the meeting to order via ZOOM at 7:39 PM. Several members had trouble logging on as there were a couple of different code numbers floating around. Eventually about 24 members made their way to the site. Minutes from last meeting were unavailable. Elke reported that the check for the charity donation to the Triumph Foundation would mail tomorrow. She did not have a Treasurers Report but offered to mail it to anyone who wants it. She told us she would like to, after all these years, resign the office of Treasurer. Thanks for all the hard work, Elke! Mike Woodings reported that the upcoming club picnic is postponed and Monterey is still scheduled pending situational change. The club car show will probably be moved to 2021. He said Vicenzo’s is open for take-out and asked us to support them. The Board is accepting nominations for the upcoming election. Donna Webster reported that all future club activities will be pushed back until safe to do them. Mike and Judy Woodings reported that they have assembled a roster of members sorted by adjacent addresses so we can keep in touch during these “cabin fever” times. Mike announced that Steve and Judy Turkheimer are moving, so the board positions of both Quartermaster and Communications will have to be filled during the upcoming election. Mike Woodings encouraged folks to volunteer. He also reported that the Board had accepted Mike McCloskey’s offer to fill in as Secretary and continue on the new board. Mike read the April birthdays and anniversaries, and in Car Talk, Mark Ware showed pictures of Mike McCloskey’s new 2020 Corvette, the first in the club. A general discussion and chat followed on a variety of subjects, making it obvious to all that we miss each other and the camaraderie we share. The meeting was closed at 8:25 PM

Your Club at Work in 2020 Community Support - Triumph Foundation

In response to the SCVCC’s donation to the Triumph Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping children, adults, and Veterans with spinal cord injuries and disorders, we received the following letter from the founder, Andrew Skinner.

_____________________ Dear Mike Woodings, I received the check in the mail from the Corvette Club and I just wanted to let you know how grateful I am for your support. This couldn't have come at a better time, we just leased a warehouse and are setting it up. The funds will be used to purchase shelves and tools to help with our wheelchair & medical supply equipment refurbishing program, and help us set up a production line to build Care Packs for people that are newly injured in the hospital. Your gift will make a huge impact on the people we serve, and means so much to us. If it's okay, I would love to share with our followers the exciting news about your support. Do you have a website or social media page you'd prefer me to link to? On a personal note, I know one way my family has been keeping our sanity is to go for a drive from time to time. I wish I had a Corvette to take out! Doing the Bunny Hop An Easter Day Hello By Mike Woodings

As we continue our daily routine during this time of “Safer at Home”, Monday is the same as Tuesday and Tuesday is the same as Wednesday. Happily they are all like Saturday…another “day off” for many and “Groundhog Day” for others. On one of those days, actually a Saturday, I noted movement on our currently quiet cul de sac street. Not just a car stopping in front of my house, but a 67 Corvette with the top down. I spotted Ron and Donna Nolan sporting appropriate face masks decorating my lawn with colorful Easter decorations. Quite a nice touch, breaking up yet again another of my seven Saturdays that week!

The Nolans told me that they were enjoying a beautiful afternoon together putting similar decorations in club members’ yards. They still had a few decorations left so enjoying a spontaneous change to my Saturday, I grabbed Judy Jo and our appropriate face masks, put the top down on the Vette and joined in as tail gunner in our two Corvette caravan across our valley for stops at the Nolans’ final three calls.

Of course, we found everyone home, “sheltering in place” when we stopped at the Websters, the Ceos and the Shavers. All were well and taking appropriate social distance precautions and no one passed a virus to another.

Most important though, a little joy was shared to some club members by their thoughtfulness the day before Easter. Some may question whether full compliance to the order was adhered to. Maybe, maybe not. If not,

then I throw myself on the mercy of the court, happy to know I could share in brightening someone’s day. There might be some other instances many of you can share about how you are dealing with our current situation with the mandates we are under and how you are reaching

out to one another. Your newsletter guy would like to hear from you. Let’s keep staying safe and well and adding club members to your list of those important to you. Your Corvettes should be spotless by now and they will be spectacular when we all get together, hopefully sooner than later. Looking forward to pizza together again!

A Look Back… What we were up to in April 2019

Our first fun event of the month was a cruise north to Buellton, California to visit the Mendenhall Museum. It was a beautiful Saturday morning when we headed up the coast for what would be very interesting visit to an extensive petroliana collection owned by Mark and Vicki Mendenhall. The facility is also the home of the Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame. After the tour, we headed across the highway to

Morrell’s Farm Fresh Dining for an excellent lunch before spending the rest of the day in the wine country region seeing the sights.

Next, we gathered at Lucille’s Smokehouse BBQ for the Taste of the Town. It was a perfect April evening to sit on the patio and enjoy entrees ranging from the crispy Caesar salads, to the beef brisket, and the fried chicken and gravy. After dinner, the evening was just too

beautiful to call it quits, so we headed over to Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt.

Later in the month, and for those who were craving more Bar-B-Que, we took a short trip up Highway 126 to support our neighbors at Santa Paula Chevrolet for their annual tent sale and BBQ.

There we joined a substantial display of Corvettes representing SCVCC, as well as the Redline and the Ventura Corvette clubs. There were also some shiny new ones that still had that new car smell and window stickers! The lunch spread included sausage, tri-tip, and grilled chicken, along with all the fixin’s from spicy beans to potato salad. Oh, and there were also donuts? Yeah, it was a good day…

As part of our busy Corvette month, we also met up on a fine Sunday morning at Route 66 to gather around the breakfast table before heading over to Central Park for the KHTS Home and Garden Show. There we had or own reserved parking lot, and the impressive display of Corvettes immediately began to draw the attention of onlookers, as it did throughout the day

Members Page What we are up to…

William James (Corvette Friend) I have been busy keeping our 94 Red C4 in good running order, just had new catalytic converters installed and old red passed with flying colors. I also removed the big bulky rear mufflers with straight pipes, and old red sounds as good as she should. VROOM VROOM! Also, we have been polishing and detailing the old paint and painted the rear wing black. Looking forward to nice long fast runs with y'all this summer. God bless everyone. Praying we see y'all soon. Be safe, and keep the rubber side down.

Scott & Virginia After getting more projects done around the house than I ever thought possible, it was time for a Corona-cruise to the grocery store…. or was that a cruise to the grocery store for a Corona? I can’t remember, but an essential run either way I’m sure. Also, like everyone, we are eating at home more than ever, while desperately missing the

simple enjoyment of sitting in restaurant booth, lingering over dinner with friends and family. In the meantime, we made tacos and we ate them all. Not Sorry.

On April 1st, after 2 weeks of home isolation, Mike woke Judy up and announced the quarantine had been lifted…oops April Fool. Easter was Mike’s big birthday…they are all big. All of the family celebrated at a social distance in the driveway. Plenty of toilet paper here and the groceries are plentiful with occasional shopping excursions to the Navy Commissary at Port Hueneme. The

governor told us grocery shopping was OK, but he didn’t specify which store you were allowed to shop in nor did he say you have to travel with the convertible top up.

Mark Work keeps me busy and makes the time go fast. Getting exercise is a challenge. Taking the ‘Vette out on weekends keeps me sane.

Dave & Karen What crazy days! Getting so much done around the house, including new cabinets in the laundry room (Dave made these in his workshop, where he spends most days) and we got our vegetable garden planted.

On our Anniversary we took a drive up to Solvang to the little church in Ballard where we got married - while social distancing!

Light and fluffy pancakes perfect for that stay-at-home breakfast

CLASSIC ANYTIME PANCAKES

These are your classic weekend pancakes that you can serve any given day since we are stuck in the house anyway. They don’t require any special trips to the store for fancy ingredients like buttermilk, applesauce, or yogurt. Nope, just plain ol’ basic ingredients like flour, sugar, milk, eggs… etc.

Get it together

• 2 cups all-purpose flour • 1/4 cup sugar • 2 tablespoons baking powder • 1 teaspoon salt • 2 cups milk, whole preferred • 2 large eggs • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • 2 tablespoons melted butter • Oil or shortening for griddle • butter and syrup, for serving

Let’s make some magic Preheat your griddle (375°) or frying pan and lightly grease with oil or shortening.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

Pour in the milk, crack in the eggs and add in the vanilla extract. Whisk until just combined before pouring in the melted butter. Whisk one last time before measuring out 1/4 cup of batter (per pancake) and pouring it onto the preheated griddle.

Cook the pancakes for 3 to 4 minutes or until the bubbles pop and do not fill back in and the bottoms are golden brown, then flip and cook until golden brown and delicious. Repeat with the remaining batter.

Serve with additional butter and your favorite syrup.

Well here we are, our noses still pressed against the window, wishing we could go out and play. We have been in homeroom detention for what seems like forever, and most of that time has been spent with our spouses. For many, this may have been an opportunity to discover new and exciting things about our loved one. For others, we may be looking for a tiger that we can borrow. (Yeah, like you didn’t watch Tiger King…)

Anyway, that’s how I see it, and please stay safe out there!
