Italy has a lot of honeymoon options — Venice’s romantic canals, the Tuscan countryside, Puglia’s whitewashed towns, and the sunny beaches of the Amalfi coast — but for 2018, book a summer stay in Sardinia. With turquoise waters, rugged coastline, and world-class beaches, Italy’s second-largest island is also its most romantic. (Plus, the food is fantastic.) Best experienced by boat, charter a vessel to luxuriate in the seclusion of otherwise inaccessible coves and swaths of sand.
Looking to hop on the mini-moon bandwagon? Try Nantucket. Stylish Greydon House is the perfect jumping off point to explore the island, which oozes New England charm year round. Stroll the picturesque downtown, tour classic lighthouses, and bike beaches and nature preserves. Get there faster with Tradewind Aviation, which runs convenient private-jet flights between Westchester County Airport and Nantucket.
Sure, other Caribbean islands may be more seductive, but Jamaica’s still got a lot going for it.
Largely undamaged by 2017’s record-breaking hurricanes, the island is one of the easiest — and
quickest — to get to with four-hour direct flights from NYC meaning you spend more time on
vacation and less time getting there. To ramp up the romance, book a room with a view at adult-
only The Caves in Negril, where you can toast your newlywed status with rum and the
Caribbean’s most romantic meal: a five-course dinner in one of two private, candlelit caves
overlooking the water.
The next up-and-coming honeymoon destination, Sri Lanka offers a little bit of everything:
romantic beaches on the Indian ocean, lush jungles, sacred temples, cinnamon forests, Colonial
charm, and exotic cuisine. Over the past 10 years, the island has seen an uptick in tourism — and
honeymoon-worthy luxury resorts, including two from the Aman resort group — but you’ll still
need a connecting flight to reach the island. Not sold on doing Sri Lanka as a standalone
destination? It’s easily paired with the Maldives, just a 90-minute flight away.
While it’s not your typical island escape (there are no palm trees or rum-filled pineapples), Iceland’s natural wonders are perfect for the eco-adventure-loving couple. Start in trendy, nightlife-loving Reykjavik, then work your way out into Iceland’s rugged, moss-covered landscapes replete with natural hot springs, waterfalls, glaciers, and native horses. From September to April, book a stay at ION Adventure Hotel, for modern luxury and a chance to glimpse the Northern Lights. Missing the beach? No worries, Iceland’s black-sand beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world.
