DECLARATION AND DETERMINATION UNDER THEAUSTRALIAN ACTIVE SERVICE MEDAL 1945-1975 REGULATIONS

I. QUENTIN ALICE LOUISE BRYCE, Governor-General of theCommonwealth of Australia, pursuant to the .Australian Active Service Medal1945-1975 Regulations contained in the Schedule to the Letters Patent dated11 December 1997 (the Regulations") on the recommendation of theParliamentary Secretary for Defence, hereby:

(a) revoke the Declaration and Determination made on 13 April 2011 underregulation 3 and subregulation 4(2) respectively of the Australian ActiveService Medal 1945-1975 Regulations;

(b) declare, under regulation 3 of the Regulations, the following warlikeoperations in which members of the Australian Defence Force wereengaged in Thailand:

(i) Royal Australian Air Force activities in the defence ofThailand conducted from the Royal Thai Air Force Base at'Mon that commenced on 31 May 1962 and ended on 27 July1962 and commenced on 25 June i 965 and ended on31 August 1968: or

(ii) 2 Field Troop Royal Australian Engineers at Ban Kok Talat inOperation CROWN that commenced on 25 June 1965 andended on 31 August 1968;

to he a prescribed operation for the purposes of the Regulations; and

(c) determine, under subregulation 4(2) of the Regulations, that theconditions for award of the Australian Active Service Medal 1945-1975with Clasp - THAILAND - ("the Medal-) thr that prescribed operationare:

(i) the Medal may be awarded to a member of the AustralianDefence Force who rendered service as such a member whileserving as a member of the Australian element for duty to theprescribed operation for a prescribed period;

(ii) the Medal may be awarded to a member of the AustralianDefence Force who rendered service as such a member for aprescribed period as part of the contribution of a foreign

Defence Force to the prescribed operation while onsecondment or exchange with the foreign Defence Force;

(iii) the Medal may be awarded to a member of the AustralianDefence Force who rendered service as such a member forofficial visits, inspections or other occurrences of a temporarynature in connection with the military contribution to theprescribed operaiion:

(iv) the Medal may be awarded to a person who rendered service aspart of the Australian element of the prescribed operation, andwho, completed a prescribed period and. in accordance with adetermination made by the Minister under paragraph 4(1)(b) ofthe Regulations, is in a class of persons who may be awardedthe Medal;

(v) in this paragraph prescribed period for the prescribedoperation at subparagraphs (b)(i) and (b)(ii) means:

(1) in relation to subparagraphs (eXi), (c)(ii) and (c)(iv) aperiod of not less than one day or one completedoperational sortie; and

(2) in relation to subparagraph (c)(iii) a period of not less thana period of 30 days or periods amounting in the aggregateto 30 days;

PROVIDED THAT where a member does not complete theprescribed period required by subparagraphs .(0(i), (c)tii) or(c)(iv) owing to his or her death, evacuation due to illness,injury or other disability due to service, the member will bedeemed to have completed that prescribed period.

I. QUENTIN ALICE LOUISE BRYCE, Governor-General of theCommonwealth of Australia, pursuant to the Australian Service Medal 1945-1975 Regulations contained in the Schedule to Letters Patent dated 22 February1995_ ("the Regulations") on the recommendation of the ParliamentarySecretary for Defence, hereby:

(a) revoke the Declaration and Determination made on 23 March 2001under regulation 3 and regulation 4 respectively of the Regulations;

(b) declare, under regulation 3 of the Regulations, the followingnon-warlike operations in which members of the Australian DefenceForce are or were engaged in Thailand to be a declared operation for thepurposes of the Regulations:

(I)

at the Royal Thai Air Force Base at Ubon during the period thatcommenced on 1 May 1962 and ended on 30 May 1962 andcommenced on 28 July 1962 and ended on 24 June 1965;

with the 2 Field Troop Royal Australian Engineers at Ban KokTalat in Operation CROWN during the period that commenced onI May 1962 and ended on 24 June 1965: and

( c)

determine, under regulation 4 of the Regulations, that the conditions foraward of the Australian Service Medal 1945-1975 Clasp 'THAILAND'("the Medal") for the declared operation are:

the Medal may be awarded to a member of the AustralianDefence Force who rendered service as such a member whileposted to or serving as a member of the Australian element ofthe declared operation for a period of 30 days, or for periodsamounting in the aggregate to 30 days;

(ii) the Medal may be awarded to a member of the AustralianDefence Force who rendered service as such a member for aperiod of 30 days, or for periods amounting in the aggregate to30 days, as part of the contribution of a foreign Defence Forceto the declared operation while on secondment or exchangewith the foreign Defence Force;

(iii) the Medal may be awarded to a member of the AustralianDefence Force who rendered service as such a member andwho completed 30 operational sorties within the duration of thedeclared operation, where those sorties were conducted over aperiod of not less than an aggregate of 30 days at a rate of onesortie per day;

(iv) the Medal may be awarded to a member of the AustralianDefence Force who rendered service as such a member for aperiod of 30 days, or for periods amounting in the aggregate to30 days, for official visits, inspections or other occurrences of atemporary nature with the military contribution in the declaredoperation,

(v) the Medal may be awarded to a person who rendered service aspart the Australian element of the declared operation for aperiod of 30 days or more, or for periods amounting in theaggregate to 30 days or more, and who, in accordance with adetermination made by the Minister under paragraph 4(1)(b) ofthe Regulations, is in a class of persons who may be awardedthe Medal; or
