Overall, we’ve had a healthy first half of the year, bolstered by some fantastic new product offerings across the light and medium-duty market segments.
The latest incarnation of our ever-popular N Series, launched last year, has been gathering steady momentum and continues to produce very encouraging sales results in the light
market segment.
We’re confident this trend will continue, and be complemented by the first deliveries of Isuzu’s new medium-duty F Series trucks, which are already gracing highways and loading bays across the country.
In our last edition we dissected every aspect of the new F Series range, and we’re now starting to see some positive media and broader industry reaction to this state-of-the-art upgrade.
Australia’s trucking media joined us recently in Brisbane to get behind the wheel of the new range and experience the future of medium-duty trucking in Australia.
We’ve put together a brief video package with all the media and fleet reaction from our recent F Series launch as well as the media drive program, so please take a look.
During the F Series launch in Melbourne we also previewed the new NLR Servicepack, which has likewise generated hype amongst the nation’s trucking media, recently winning Delivery magazine’s ‘Best Light Truck’ 2016.
In this edition we’ll provide you with all you need to know when it comes to the new Servicepack. We take a look at its application possibilities and benefits for the customer, as well as some pertinent insights on what it means for the light duty sector from those in the know.

The 2015 Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) ‘National Truck Dealer of the Year’ award was presented to Tony Ireland Isuzu, based in Townsville, Queensland.
The coveted award was announced in Melbourne at the launch of the new Isuzu F Series range.
Isuzu truck dealers from all over Australia converged on Melbourne to get the detail on the new model range, and to find out which dealer would walk away with the sought-after prize.
2014 saw the addition of a new ‘Truck Dealer of the Year’ accolade to recognise excellent performance across every aspect of an Isuzu dealership’s operation.
When accepting the award for the second year in a row, Dealer Principal, Tony Ireland (pictured above with former IAL Managing Director and CEO Koichi Yoda), said the secret to his dealership’s
success is its faithful staff.
“I’m incredibly humbled to have achieved this award two years in a row. I have really dedicated staff passionate about the Isuzu brand and they live that passion and enthusiasm everyday with our customers.”
“I thought we had performed at least as well as last year but I expected that another Isuzu Dealership may have leap-frogged us this time. The competition is pretty close at the top of the field,” Mr Ireland said.
The Tony Ireland team also picked up the 2015 award for Best Service Department, and Gilbert & Roach Huntingwood won the award for Best Parts Dealership.
The other top award for Best Sales Dealership was awarded to Ballarat Isuzu.
IAL Business Planning Manager and Company Secretary, Paul Evans, said the annual awards
served to highlight the many hours put in by dealerships and provides real incentive for them to improve their customer service at every level.
“The evaluation criteria included areas such as presentation standards, customer care, training attendance and inventory management,” Mr Evans said.
“To win the National Dealer Award, a dealership team must excel in every area, no matter their size or sales volume, and Tony and his team are great exponents of these values,” Mr Evans said.
“Customer service is a fundamental component of Isuzu’s success in the industry and with these awards, we encourage dealers to better their services, so that the customers can really benefit.”
“We congratulate Tony and his dedicated team in Townsville on another great year.”
Mr Nishizaka has been with Isuzu Motors for over 30 years, beginning his career in the engineering department in Japan, before being
seconded to Isuzu America.
After 28 years in product planning in the U.S., he became CEO of Isuzu South Africa, before now joining IAL.
Mr Nishizaka (pictured left) takes the reins from outgoing IAL Managing Director and CEO Koichi ‘Mike’ Yoda, who has returned to Japan after a highly successful four-year stint.
During his time in Australia, Mr Yoda has overseen many positive changes in strategic and operational direction.
With a particular focus on bridging the information and communication gap between Japan and Australia, Mr Yoda’s time at IAL has been invaluable to the business.
IAL Director and Chief Operating Officer Phil Taylor said he’s looking forward to a fresh perspective, as well as furthering steps to cement
the relationship between Australia and Japan.
“We’re extremely happy and excited to have Hiroshi Nishizaka with us at IAL. His breadth of experience across a range of Isuzu operations will be extremely valuable to us here in Australia.
“On the flipside, we’re also sad to say goodbye to Koichi Yoda after a highly productive four years. His dedication and hard work has been greatly appreciated. He’ll be sorely missed by everyone here at IAL.”
Mike Koichi Yoda returns to Japan to Isuzu Japan’s light commercial vehicle department, but says he will miss Australia, and hopes to return soon.
“I would like to thank everyone at IAL for making me feel so welcome and being so accommodating during my time here,” he said.
“IAL is a great team and I’m sure they will continue to lead the market with their hard work and customer focus.
“I wish Hiroshi Nishizaka all the best, and have every confidence he’ll do an excellent job here in Australia.”

The new F Series range was officially unveiled back in February this year to excellent reviews from both customers and the nation’s press.
Last month, journalists were out on the roads of Brisbane for a genuine ‘behind-the-wheel’ experience.
Core to the flexibility of Isuzu’s new truck range is the option of two very different driveline technologies available across 4x2 and 4x4 models.
On show in Brisbane was the 5.2 litre, four-cylinder, two-stage turbocharged and intercooled 4HK1 engine available in two power ratings.
Journalists also tested the six-cylinder Isuzu 6HK1 variant with Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) for low maintenance and unparalleled dependability.
THE TRUCKSModels featured during the test program included a total of seven F Series trucks sporting a number of different bodies and all loaded to 80 per cent capacity.
Isuzu’s heavy-duty FYJ 2000 Auto MWB also made an appearance together with a brand new NLR 45-150 Servicepack, fresh from winning Delivery Magazine’s Best Light Truck of the Year for 2016.
The test fleet was put to work across a challenging 150 km drive route that included a range of different road terrains around Brisbane’s outer regional and metro areas.
The course covered a variety of driving conditions appropriate for medium-duty trucking applications – urban and industrial areas, freeways and second-class country roads.
Journalists tackled the steep slopes of Brisbane’s Mount Coot-tha, before heading over to Ipswich for an Isuzu food truck lunch stop. They continued through to Goodna before winding their way back to Brisbane Isuzu at Archerfield in the city’s south.
THE REACTION Clear stand-outs for the media was the introduction of Isuzu’s third generation TC-AMT, the low maintenance advantage of the 6HK1 with DOC,
and the low-displacement 4HK1 engine – the latter being hailed as a significant development for the industry.
Tim Giles, Editor, Diesel said: “If someone told me 10 years ago I’d be driving around in a four-cylinder truck, performing the sort of work these new trucks are designed to do, I’d think they were mad.
“When you put together the new four-cylinder engine with the torque converter AMT, you get a really comprehensive package, these features together in the one truck – it just works.
“I can see a genuine position within the medium-duty market for these new four-cylinder models.”
Peter Shields, Senior Feature Writer, Prime Mover said: “Driving the trucks with a realistic 80 per cent load on the back was important today.
“We moved across the sort of terrain you’d expect these vehicles to be operating in, and the trucks performed exceptionally well.”
Steve Brooks of Owner Driver and ATN Magazines said: “The torque converter in the AMT has made a huge difference to the performance of that transmission, especially down in the lower rev range.
“I think Isuzu has hit the mark with these new lower displacement models. The strong just keep getting stronger don’t they?”
Isuzu’s popular media drive programs continue to be an essential conduit in conveying features and benefits of Isuzu products to the public, according to IAL Chief Operating Officer and Director, Phil Taylor.
“Our customers look to the media for an honest industry appraisal of these new products, so for Isuzu it’s essential we get the experts behind the wheel and give them the opportunity to put forward a tried and tested review to the industry,” he said.
“Isuzu has held top position in the medium duty segment for many years now, and the move towards low-displacement, high output technology is designed to well and truly cement that domination into the future.
“We’re confident this range will be a real game changer.”

For tradies looking for more payload than a ute can safely deliver, Isuzu Trucks has come to the party with its new light-duty ‘Servicepack’, a one-stop vehicle for a
huge range of applications.
Building on the continued success of the Isuzu ready-to-work range, the Servicepack is compact and nimble, with a tight turning circle and short wheelbase dimensions enabling it to fit comfortably in any standard driveway or shopping centre car park space.

The new Servicepack model, comes standard with a 5-speed Manual Transmission or Isuzu’s optional easy driving 6-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), and is designed with the specialist tradesperson or contractor firmly in mind.
The new model also offers ample on-board storage with two rows of lockers of various sizes, each fitted with internal LED lighting for optimum visibility no matter what time of the day or night you’re called to work.
A central storage area with load rated tie-down hooks is also part of the package, and an integrated step tow-bar and reversing camera adds to the Servicepack’s functionality.
POWER ON-TAPPowered by the Isuzu 4JJ1-TCS, 3.0 litre diesel turbo charged and intercooled engine, the Servicepack delivers power of 110 kW (150 PS) @ 2,800 rpm and torque of 375 Nm @ 1,600 – 2,800 rpm, while comfortably meeting the Euro V emissions standards.
SAFETY FIRSTSuperior safety standards are delivered in the NLR with driver and passenger airbags, pre-tensioner load limiting seatbelts on driver and passenger seats, Isuzu Electronic Stability Control System (IESC), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Anti-Skid Regulator (ASR) and an ECE-R29 compliant cab.
Drivers are also taken care of with the standard Digital Audio Visual Equipment (DAVE) unit that provides a 6.2” LCD touch screen, DAB+ digital radio and fully integrated Bluetooth functionality and music streaming with voice recognition.

Isuzu Engines were back on the road last month at the incredibly popular AgFest field day in Tassie
Taking a selection of off-highway engines straight to the customer has become a staple in the Isuzu Engines’ calendar and continues to be a huge success.
AgFest boasts approximately 700 exhibits, brands and businesses from every agricultural sector imaginable, showcasing the latest technology and developments in machinery and equipment throughout the three-day festival.
This year’s festival marked its 33rd year, and drew around 60,000 people from all corners of Australia.
Front and centre at AgFest this year was Isuzu Engines, armed with a custom built marquee and a mixture of two-cylinder, three-cylinder, four-cylinder and six-cylinder models, plus experienced off-highway engine experts on hand to answer any customer queries.
Rod Best, National Sales Manager, Isuzu Engines, says braving the elements in Launceston was well worth the effort.
“AgFest was our first big show of the year and we had a lot of people on site along with a range of engines to promote the off-highway offering.
“We chose AgFest as we knew there was a great opportunity for the irrigation sector here in Tasmania.
“The fixed speed rpm engines for power generation were also popular. Our range is adaptable and can be easily used as a power unit, so we get enquiries from a range of applications and industries.”
AgFest kicked off a full calendar of field days for the Engines team in the months to come.
“We want to build the brand, and let people know it’s not just trucks, a lot of people aren’t aware we sell off-highway and industrial engines.
“We’re here opening their eyes and presenting an alternative to traditional agricultural engine suppliers,” Rod said.

Life Education Victoria’s annual Gala Dinner for 2016 through to 2018.
This year’s Charity Dinner returned again to Melbourne’s Hotel Pullman.
This major fundraising event was an opportunity for supporters, sponsors and the general public to raise much-needed funds for the delivery of essential early learning and awareness programs related to health, wellbeing and safety.
Life Education is the largest non-government provider of drug and health education for children and young people in Australia.
For 36 years, the organisation has been taking their mobile learning centres – and legendary mascot ‘Harold’ the giraffe – on the road to preschools, primary schools and secondary schools, teaching children and young people about everything from drug and alcohol safety, and nutrition through to bullying and cyber safety.
The program reaches over 640,000 children across every state and territory, with over 100 mobile learning centres and 95 specially-trained educators.

But looking to the decade ahead, it’s telematics technology which emerges as the single most important technology development we’re likely to see in our vehicles.
Truck Power takes a look at telematics technology and some of the factors feeding into its use in the future.
PART AND PARCELTelematics – integrating telecommunications, real-time data and transport communications – is poised to play a vital role in a safer, more productive future for the transport industry.
Simon Humphries, Chief Engineer, Product Strategy, at Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) says telematics is the biggest technological development for the road freight industry to keep its eye on.
“Telematics will be soon viewed as part of the truck – just like the engine or transmission – rather than seen as an accessory,” said Mr Humphries.
“We’ve been mindful to develop a product that will be relevant both now and in the future.”
WHAT IS ISUZU TELEMATICS?Isuzu Telematics is an integrated
intelligent trucking solution. A black box installed behind the truck’s dash panel
works with a server and wireless devices to provide a range of operational and
driver safety management efficiencies, such as live positioning, trip playback, geo-fencing and fleet and engine data
information tools.
Isuzu Australia offers two levels of telematics capability so that businesses can choose the product that best meets
their needs and requirements.
ISUZU CONNECTThe Isuzu Telematics Connect product
(which can be retrofitted to older models) comprises vehicle positioning
and fleet management capability. Features include live locating capability,
mechanical checks, theft alert, and service reminders.
In addition, this package includes some aspects of analysing how the vehicle is
driven: speeding, harsh acceleration and adherence to geo-fenced boundaries.
ISUZU CONNECT PLUSIsuzu Connect Plus ups the ante on
the Connect offering by adding engine management data readings to the mix, from clutch activation and fuel
consumption to engine idling.
There are also driver-security features such as a panic button, collision alert and
door-open monitor.
On the Connect Plus package, Isuzu Telematics integrates with Isuzu’s DAVE (Digital Audio Visual

ISUZU TELEMATICS: WHAT’S NEW?Isuzu Trucks has introduced two clever new features to its telematics offering – driver ID and two-way messaging.
In fleet management operational visibility is the key to making savings, increasing efficiencies and getting the best out of both vehicles and drivers. Fleet managers welcome the driver ID feature and two-way messaging features for their ability to provide data on how every vehicle is being used.
Driver ID has been designed to increase visibility for operators who assign multiple drivers across several vehicles. It allows drivers to be identified by a four-digit PIN. This data is used ensure drivers and vehicles are being allocated and utilised efficiently.
THE ROAD TO REGULATIONRegulators and road authorities are increasingly using technology to monitor road infrastructure.
This is leading to calls from fleet operators, truck owners and transport industry associations for integrated telematics which serve compliance
requirements and driver/fleet manager’s needs.
Here in Australia, Transport Certification Australia (TCA) administers the National Telematics Framework on behalf of the Australian government and transport agencies.
The framework provides a nationally-agreed reference point for the development and delivery of telematics technology, including the Intelligent Access Program (IAP), intelligent speed compliance, on-board mass (OBM) monitoring and electronic work diaries (EWDs).
Electronic work diaries & telematics
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is currently developing an approach to the national adoption of electronic work diaries (EWDs), and an EWD specification in Australia is expected in 2017.
EWDs are being established under the National Telematics Framework, which promotes the ‘one box, many uses’ principle to facilitate the simultaneous operation of regulatory and commercial applications.
“This means that the introduction of EWDs will ensure transport operators do not need to purchase new, stand-alone systems or technologies, subject to decisions by telematics providers to offer EWD services,” says Chris Koniditsiotis, TCA Chief Executive Officer.
USAGEA November 2015 ACA Research omnibus study on telematics adoption in the road freight industry showed that 39 per cent of trucks and fleets in the country are using telematics of some description. Of these, 91 per cent are fleets with more than 25 trucks.
In comparison, the telematics usage rate among owner-drivers and smaller fleets is low. Only 23 per cent of fleets of three to five trucks use telematics, with the usage rate falling to 5 per cent for owners of one to two trucks.
The research shows transport operators use an average of five features from what’s available on the market.

ADELAIDE’S FORK & CRANES RIDING HIGH WITH ISUZUIf you can secure it to a flat-bed truck, Adelaide based Fork & Cranes says it can ferry it wherever it needs to go – be that two storeys in the air, or in a pocket of the worksite no truck can go
Specialising in the building supplies industry, Fork & Cranes moves, lifts and forks everything from pre-fab house frames to scaffolding, concrete retaining
walls, and even portable dunnies.
It’s a fairly niche service and to turn a buck, you need up-to-date, reliable and dependable equipment. To cover every eventuality, Forks & Cranes boasts new or near-new equipment across its operations, from its 21 metre cranes to the trucks they’re floated on.
The latter is especially important too, because without reliable and affordable transport, the competitor gets the gig, simple as that.
Fork & Cranes recently added an Isuzu FVZ 1400
with an Allison 6-speed automatic transmission, to their seven-strong Isuzu fleet, their second Isuzu purchase in just two years – following an FYJ 2000.
Owner Eddie Koncewicz says the recent addition was a result of learned experience.
“We can’t stop buying them, they’re reliable, well-priced, and the trucks are great for the market we operate in and excellent for what we do.”
From humble beginnings, Eddie’s business has grown steadily, underpinned by a constantly improving transport fleet and a long-standing collaboration with the Isuzu brand.
“We started out 10 years ago when I bought a truck from my neighbour. I won a contract with a building company, and it all grew from there.
“We’re now up to seven Isuzus within the fleet, across the F and FY Series. We’ve had a great association with the product and the company over the last 10 years, so the decision to buy again was an easy one.”
Predominantly operating in and around Adelaide and servicing a number of the largest scaffolding and construction contractors in the region, Fork & Crane’s fleet also offers transport services to “just about anywhere in Australia.”
Transporting equipment as far as the Pilbara mining region in remote Western Australia, the reliability of the trucks cannot be left to chance.
“I can’t stress enough the importance of having a good vehicle when you’re out in the countryside.

“The FVZ 1400 model gets taken on some longer runs interstate and being able to rely on it is absolutely essential when you’re on the open highway.
“The automatic transmission is a real hit with the drivers, it’s just a button to press and means they can give their full concentration to the road.
“We usually have the trucks serviced every 20,000 km so it will hit that a bit quicker than other models due to the runs, but we’ve had no problems, and Isuzu have been excellent at getting it turned around quickly.”
Both the FVZ and FYJ models have cruise control and coil spring cab suspension as standard, making those country runs a bit less daunting and more comfortable for Eddie’s drivers.
Eddie says the new Isuzu FVZ and FY models have helped Fork & Crane snare a larger slice of the local and interstate building supplies pie.
“These days we have a number of major customers who are building housing and commercial construction projects around South Australia and beyond – we’re doing a bigger cross-section of the industry now than ever before.
“We’ve changed over most of our fleet to Isuzu now as they handle so well, whether it’s long-haul
jobs in the country or in and around metro areas, they have a great turning circle and getting in and out of tight spaces is no hassle at all.
“The trucks are very comfortable in terms of suspension and a smooth drive. The drivers are very happy with the Isuzu trucks.”
Contributing to the superior comfort of Isuzu’s FYJ 2000 is its innovative load-sharing front suspension equaliser with shock absorber, coil spring cab suspension to reduce impact on the driver, and the industry standard ISRI seat.
Under the cab is Isuzu’s SITEC Series III 6 cylinder turbocharged engine producing 257 kW (345 PS) @ 2,000 RPM, with a max torque output of 1,422 Nm @ 1,400 RPM.
Needless to say, there’s plenty of grunt under the right foot to ensure Eddie’s team have the ways and means to reach their destination in a safe and timely manner.
Fork & Cranes is committed to providing their staff with a safe working environment in and around construction sites, and in turn, the same devotion to safety had to be applied to their trucks.
“The safety factor is really important to us. We have reversing cameras fitted in the back of all our trucks so we can see anyone in the area and clear
the path for the truck. Overall I rate the vehicles very highly in safety and comfort,” Eddie said.
On board, the FYJ comes with driver airbag, an ECE-R29 compliant cab, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and a Front Underun Protection Device (FUPD) as standard, ensuring a safe and hassle-free drive.
With a portion of Eddie’s eight drivers spending anywhere up to 10 hours a day behind the wheel on the longer hauls, comfort is also a major factor for Eddie.
The FYJ comes equipped with an ISRI 6860 driver’s seat with pneumatic lumbar support and integrated seatbelt, Digital Audio Visual Entertainment (DAVE) unit with 6.2” LCD touch screen and digital radio to make sure drivers are well looked after.
The transmission is Allison’s rock-solid 4430 Series six-speed automatic with adaptive shift, meaning Eddie’s drivers have every advantage when it comes to the more chaotic metro driving.
“Using the automatic transmission, the drivers find it extremely comfortable around metro areas, they’re not continually changing gears and gear ratio is very good, even going up-hill we don’t tend to slow down, even with a big load,” Eddie said.

demand strength from its trucks, which is why the FYJ’s load-carrying capacity was an important consideration for Eddie. With a GVM of 30,000 kg and a GCM of 42,500 kg, the FYJ is more than up to the task.
“We don’t always have to race to a job, so the vehicles we purchase are usually in the medium range in terms of power and once we put a crane on the vehicle, it does the job extremely well.
“Half the fleet has cranes on the body, and the other half has forklifts that attach to the vehicle or if we need the tray clear for carrying freight we’ll tow it behind, it depends on the job.”
As business continues to grow, Eddie plans to further expand the Isuzu fleet.
“We try to keep our schedule 90-95 per cent full so that we’ve always got a little bit of margin for a new customer,” he said.
“We don’t want to turn away work. Once we start filling up to 100 per cent we then look at adding a new truck.
“We’re a family company that does a really good job and the industry seems to see that. We’re getting steady work just now, so there will be more Isuzu purchases in the future for sure.”

HUNGRY?Those Guys Food is an authentic American food truck started by two brothers, Tim and Prem Jordan from the U.S., after they made the move to Australia.
“My brother is an experienced chef and he moved out here six years ago. I followed suit in 2014 and we started the food truck business in June last year,” Tim Jordan said.
“With my brother’s experience as a chef, and with my own in the marketing area, we decided to start a food truck to showcase real American cuisine by only using fresh, locally-sourced Australian produce.”
A wide variety of locations means that food trucks must be able to handle a variety of road and environmental conditions.
The NPR, with its double acting hydraulic shock absorbers is perfect for maintaining a smooth drive when floating expensive cooking equipment across any terrain.
The N Series, renowned as a ‘something for everyone’ truck, manages regional festival terrain as easily as it negotiates Melbourne’s laneways and side streets.

“We travel around the wine region, Queens Cliff, Geelong and Phillip Island, and Melbourne,” Tim said.

“We do a lot of music festivals, Flemington Cup Carnival, the Moto GP in Phillip Island, Stereosonic, UFC fights at Etihad, and also weddings, and university events.
“We wanted a brand new truck and a model that could service multifaceted needs, and could operate on both ends of the spectrum, from smaller events to massive festivals. We chose the dual cab so we could take our staff with us, or if we needed extra storage space,” Tim said.
THIRSTY?Refresher Truck owner, Fortune Valdez, says power and handling was what drew him to the N Series.
His speciality frozen drinks demand a lot of equipment, so reliability and safety were also high on the list of priorities.
“I’d never bought a truck before and was planning on buying a second-hand model, but so many other food truck owners told me to go with a brand new Isuzu. I visited Winter and Taylor Isuzu in Geelong and decided on the NPR,” Fortune said.
“We wanted a truck capable of carrying a lot of weight and equipment easily and we needed something that could manoeuvre stock and staff around the Melbourne CBD – so we decided to go with the crew cab.
“We have two under-deck freezers, three fridges, a coffee machine, a hot water unit and a point of sale unit. It’s a lot of equipment, and it’s a lot of weight to carry.”
An effortless drive is guaranteed with the N Series even when carrying heavy kitchen equipment, with first class safety features like the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS and Anti-Skid Regulator (ASR).
After only a year behind the wheel of an Isuzu, Fortune has already made plans for his next purchase as business booms.

For Those Guys Food, a new Isuzu isn’t far from their minds either: “It’s a dream to drive, it handles better than a lot of cars,” Tim Jordan said.
“The turning radius and power steer works really well. We have plans for expansion, using this one to run the large capacity events, and getting a smaller truck for events like weddings and corporate functions, we’d go with Isuzu again for sure.”

“We’ve been using Isuzu for over 20 years now, mostly based on costs involved, and the performance on the job.
“We call open tenders every three years from all Original Equipment Manufacturers’, and evaluate all our equipment on a whole-of-life cost basis as well as service and back-up support and Isuzu has been the stand-out each time,” Greg said.
With 400 Isuzu trucks on their fleet, ranging from the NPR 300 to the FXZ 1500, Greg and his team have every application covered thanks to Isuzu’s varied truck range, their most recent purchase a FTS 800 4X4.
“The new model is used in Zinfra’s Gas Pipelines Unit in Far North Queensland, often in remote areas and always on unmade roads or access tracks. We have a crane built on the body and it’s used to lift pipe installations into position.”
The FTS’s full time four wheel drive, with centre differential lock, spreads the truck’s weight across two axles making for a smoother drive when tackling those uneven rural routes.
The bodies on the trucks are modified per application and include elevated work platforms,

crane borers, crane trucks, tray bodies, and service body units.
Day to day activities for the trucks can range from boring work that can take up to 6 hours of power take-off operation, digging into the ground for pipelines, to transporting pipes and other equipment along with the crew to a job.
“Big factors for the drivers are reliability, comfort, and performance, and the Isuzu’s deliver on all three, we’ve had no complaints.”
“The new models are quiet and comfortable, and very car-like to drive.
“Some of the biggest changes I’ve noticed over the years are in cabin access and ride comfort, there’s been an overall improvement in the whole driving experience,” Greg said.
Travelling a manageable 30,000 Km per year, most trucks are used as mobile service units operating in all weathers and all terrains, nationwide, so reliability on and off the highway has to be a given.
“We’re always looking to reduce downtime where we can, so we rely on our fleet management company for day to day support, and roadside assistance and our warranty follow up from Isuzu if
it’s applicable.
“Part of my role means I authorise all maintenance, and arrange suitable maintenance suppliers.
“All vehicles are serviced to the Manufacturer’s recommended service schedules, which is managed by our fleet company with monthly reporting on services due or overdue.
“We also run replacement or procurement programs every year based on vehicle age and utilization.
“We have a strong personal relationship with our dealership staff at Paterson Cheney Isuzu, so we know we can call on them if needs be,” Greg said.
“Safety is our number one priority in the business; we have extensive programs in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our employees.
“We undertake risk assessments for every vehicle and plant item purchased and provide operator training with ongoing development training for all users.
“We also run Safety Alert programs, Safety recall programs, Weekly Tool box meetings, random asset inspections, compliance measuring for all regulated requirements, it really never stops for us, it’s so important.
“Providing suitable equipment to meet Occupational Health and Safety requirements and to provide a safe and comfortable work environment for our employees is a prime consideration in all our purchases, including the trucks,” Greg said.
Safety is a priority for Isuzu too, in the FTS 800 drivers are well looked after with a driver and passenger airbag with seatbelt pretensioner, an ECE-R29 compliant cab, ADR42 compliant sleeper and an Isri 6860 driver’s seat with integrated seatbelt.
“We stand-out from our competitors because our service is second to none, and we deliver projects on time and on budget, and we expect the same level of service from our equipment and fleet.”

An Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) report* into domestic road freight movements (the first to be released in over 13 years) has exposed the sheer
scale of an Australian road freight task that is as brutal as it is huge.
ABS survey findings revealed that rigid and articulated trucks moved over two billion tonnes of freight around Australia over a twelve month period in 2014, with a staggering 17 billion road kilometres covered over the same timeframe.
Interestingly, of those two billion tonnes carried by road, over 95 per cent were carried within the same state of origin and destination.
Responding to the challenge, and with nearly three decades of experience at the tiller of
Australian trucking, Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) has yet again put forward a solution in the form of its 2016 medium-duty F Series range.
IAL Director & Chief Operating Officer, Phil Taylor, said that while the Australian road freight task is formidable, the overwhelming majority of freight movement involves relatively short, intrastate trips, giving weight to the need for a better-equipped medium-duty truck parc.
“It’s unsurprising to note that the intrastate nature of freight movement remains a feature of our industry here in Australia,” Mr Taylor noted.
“Our geographic dispersal in Australia and the rigorous demands on our truck fleet mean there’ll always be a need for flexible, efficient and practical road transport solutions.
“Isuzu’s new F Series range is a direct response to what the transport industry has been asking for and what our customers continue to demand of us. And put simply, that’s quality trucks that won’t let you down.”
Thermic maps* charting movement across all states and territories reveal both the origins and ultimate destinations of road freight, with 71.2 per cent, or just under three quarters of total tonnes carried, originating in New South Wales, Queensland or Victoria.

The company’s latest Isuzu FXY 1500 is used for furniture removals and fragile freight transportation through the Eastern States.

E.D. OATESIsuzu has always been the first choice for Graham and Andrew Williams, who run a family-owned and operated business, delivering cleaning products for E.D. Oates around Brisbane.
Owner Andrew says he can’t imagine buying a different brand and describes the truck as his “pride and joy.”

ADELAIDE HILLS WATER TRANSPORTAdelaide Hills Water Transport purchased two FVR 1000s in July 2015.
The trucks are set up to deliver domestic drinking water around the Adelaide Hills and surrounding areas and for doing civil and industrial works when needed.
Both trucks are fitted out identically with 9,000 litre tanks, Kubota pumps and multiple sprayers.
Managing Director Rick Barrand says with a comfortable ride and the ability to, “negotiate tight areas with ease on and off-road,” these trucks are perfectly suited to the job at hand.
“With these two FVRs being our companies first Isuzu’s, I can tell you they definitely won’t be our last.”
KIERAN & SUE GILLILAND Queensland-based horse racing enthusiasts Kieran and Sue Gilliland purchased their 2015 Isuzu FVD 1000 Long Auto in January.
They had living quarters and an area to accommodate five horses built by Supafloats in Warwick.
Kieran says he loves his Isuzu because of the easy drive and comfort.
“We have a whole new outlook towards travelling about with our horses. The animals are more comfortable, as they arrive at the destination ready to compete and without the stress of travelling on long trips.
“It is the perfect truck for our needs and the ultimate motorhome.”
KITCHENCO Kitchenco is a locally owned Sunshine Coast cabinet manufacturing company with 55 years of cabinet-making experience.
They recently ordered two FTR 900 Curtain-siders for delivering building materials and finished work to commercial sites and customer homes.
TOXFREE Toowoomba based Toxfree waste management and industrial services submitted this slick looking FYJ 2000 fitted with a Superior Pak body for industrial waste collection.
HIND’S SAND SUPPLIESFamily-owned business, Hind’s Sand Supplies, specialise in the delivery of bulk materials to residential and commercial construction sites in Western Australia.
Their fleet comprises of mainly Isuzu FVZ 1400 Tippers, which they say were selected “due to their low running costs and outstanding reliability.”
The recent addition of two FRR 500 Tippers has enhanced the fleet’s capacity for negotiating tight work sites.
