If you only occasionally use a high voltage holiday tester, we rent them as well as sell them. We do not rent low voltage testers because they are relatively in expensive. If coatings are less than 20 mils, low voltage testing is much easier. For coatings over 20 mils than High Voltage is the way to go. For high voltage testing follow the specifications or talk to the coating manufacturer. If you can not find other guidance, NACE says to use 100 to 125 volts per mil. so if the coating is 50 mils thick you would use 5000 to 6250 volts. While getting zapped with high voltage is not pleasant, due to the low amps it will not harm you.

Tech Tip : There are four ways to measure surface profile. Surface profile comparators are quick but require training for accuracy. Testex Tape is probably the most commonly used method. Surface Profile Gages (SPG) and Testex Tape will give different answers but are both correct. Testex Tape gives a maximum surface profile reading were SPG meters give a true average. (ASTM D4417 or SSPC-PA17 for more details.) The fourth test which is the most accurate is the Diamond Stylus method, often called the Surf Test which is more suited to labs and quality control shops than field use.

MONTI JOINS BUSINESSES INTO MONTIPOWER AMERICAS, INC.

The combined business will be renamed MontiPower Americas Inc. and will trade under the name “MontiPow-er”. It be located at the current premises of Montipower in Manassas, Virginia. Chuck Lockard will lead the new MontiPower business as General Manager for the United States and Canada, reporting to JF (Frits) Doddema, CEO of MontiPower America’s Inc., and CEO of Monti Werkzeuge Gmbh.

MTI’s present offices in Houston will be closed after a brief transition period. Nevertheless, MontiPower will continue to service the SouthWest US area from the offices of MTest, a division of MontiPower, in Humble Texas.

Commenting on the new organization, newly installed Monti Werkzeuge Gmbh CEO Frits Doddema said: “The long-term presence of two separate entities representing Monti in the US and Canada and competing against each other makes little sense. When I joined Monti, it was clear to me that this situation had to be resolved and I’m pleased that we have been able to reach agreement with Chuck to move forward as a joined business under his leadership.

The combined MontiPower entity will be larger and stronger and provide us with the foundation we need for future growth in these important markets”.

Chuck Lockard commented: “I am very pleased that we are able to take this step today and create a combined MontiPower.
