Students off-campus

A reminder to all families that students are not to leave school grounds after disembarking from buses in the morning. Recently

there have been instances of students getting off the school bus and leaving the school grounds to visit the bakery before school.

This is not ok. Students are not covered by our legal duty of care if they are in the wrong place at the wrong time. This practice is a

serious breach of student safety as if an accident occurs then the school is unaware of the students whereabouts. Please remind

your children to stay on school grounds after disembarking from buses in the mornings. If students are not in class because they

are in the bakery, parents and then the police will be notified to return the student to school.

Reports and Parent-Teacher Interviews

Our major reports for the year will be sent home to parents on Friday this week. These reports reflect your child’s progress to

date. Please take the time to read the report with your child and discuss its contents. If you have any queries or concerns about

your child’s report, please make a parent-teacher appointment via our online booking system to meet with your child’s teacher.

SECONDARY CROSS COUNTRY

The Annual School Cross Country was held on Thursday 31st May. The day was a

typical cross country day with a mix of sunshine, drizzle and a bitterly cold wind

throughout. That didn't deter our students though as they just wanted to get on

with the job at hand, pleading to start their races early rather than wait until the

scheduled time.

The Grade 10 boys set out first followed by the Grade 9 boys as they have the

furthest to run (6km). Alexi Bancal and Reef Templar were easily the first back in

their respective age groups.

Next up the Grade 10 girls were off and racing with Chloe Cashion toughing it out

for a good win, then Lizzie Shoobridge left the other Grade 9 girls in her wake as

she blitzed them to win by more then 5 minutes.

The Grade 8 boys had the most participants, with Brandon Little claiming the

honours there and Jasby Griffiths took out the Grade 7 boys race.

Melanie Shoobridge won a very competitive Grade 8 girls race, while the race of

the day was the Grade 7 girls with Rianna Sharman and Edie Little neck and neck

the whole way until the last 10 metres with Rianna taking the win.

With 10 points for a win, 8 points for 2nd, 6 points for 3rd, 4 points for 4th, 2

points for 5th and everybody else who completed the race got 1 point, at the end

of the day the total house points were as follows:

Hauy 220 Pilllar 205 Raoul 194

Congratulations to Hauy and everybody who

participated.

On May 31 the Grade 3-6 students participated in the CUA Fun Run with a view to being selected in the Interschool Cross Country team, for Wednesday June 13. There were 89 students from Grades 3-6 and the Tasman team was represented by 43 eager students The bus trip up was highlighted by focussed and excited athletes. The track was very wet and slippery and drizzle loomed all day but did not dampen spirits. Each age group had up to one hundred and twenty runners. We were competing against big schools such as Howrah, Lauderdale, Lindisfarne North, Austins Ferry and Windermere. Other schools included Richmond, South Arm, Oatlands, Bowen Road and Swansea. We were placed nineteenth overall. The following students had outstanding personal achievements: Gorgia Parker, Jack Skeggs, Tiarnee Stansbie, Cooper Meeking, Darcy Templar, Stella Seabourne, Amiee-rose Wade and William Burns. The team cheered loudly and the students did not allow the cold weather to deter any of them from performing their best.

Due to illness or injury, the following students were absent on the day: Rachael Little, Harry Sharman, Elliott Grice, Esta Honkavaara and Lockie Flack. Thanks to Craig Kinsella, Jodi Templar, Adele Skeggs, Teresa Moffatt and Mike Giblin for helping to make the day a great success.

INTER HIGH CROSS COUNTRY

The Interhigh Cross Country was held at the Rokeby Police

Academy on Wednesday 13th June and it was great Cross

Country weather.

I made the decision to not worry about taking a Gazebo as

the forecast was looking good and I felt justified when we

were making our way up as it was glorius sunshine. Upon

arrival the sun was gone and we had a brisk winters day.

Guess what…. 30 minutes later we get a bit of drizzle as the

Grade 9 girls and boys started their race!

Good decision Mr. Chandler!

The Grade 9 girls started the day with their 4km race and

Lizzie Shoobridge set the standard early by finishing in 6th

place! An amazing effort! That was the schools best finish

for 8 years! That was until the last race of the day when

Alexi Bancal finished 3rd in the Grade 10 Boys race!

So it was an outstanding day results wise as 2 top 10

finishes in itself, but we also had 25 students take up the

invitation, which is our biggest team ever!

So well done to the team, their places are in brackets

beside their name.

Outstanding to all our runners!

Rianna Sharman (82), Kobe Parssey (70), Declan McPherson (90), Melanie Shoobridge (18), Jayme

Nattey (23), Abigail Lane (40), Paige Parker (53), Jocelyn McRae (81), Brandon Little (39), Declan

Junior Cattle Handling Team

The grade 9 cattle handlers took their heifers to

Government House for the winter. The heifers Stephanie,

Ramona, Ellie and Ornamental will be living in the heart

of the city while the girls begin to train their younger

heifers for the 2018-19 agricultural show season.

Her Excellency The Honourable Professor Kate Warner

and Mr. Richard Warner welcomed the students and their

cattle to Government House, they are both keen supporters

of agriculture in schools.

9/10 Sustainable Food Production

This term students have been investigating fish as a wild food

source, farmed fish and responsible

commercial and recreational fishing.

The students have listened to Robert

Green from the DPIPWE Fishcare team

talk about fishing responsibly, looked at

the physiology of fish, learnt how to fillet salmon.

I learnt how to fillet a salmon—Drew. Getting the bones out was hard—Josh. It was interesting to see

inside the fish—Violet. I steamed the fish and it tasted amazing—Sam.

I caught the only fish, a snotty. It was great to be outside,

we learnt about how much fish you are allowed to catch

and have at home, about responsible fishing.– Sam

Measure your catch

Gently put the little ones back

Only take what you need for a feed

We visited the Tassal, Nubeena fish farm with Depha

Meidece Senior Manager - Community Liaison. Depha

has worked for nearly 20 years in the fish farming industry,

starting as a fish farmhand at Nubeena.

We went out to the lease on a boat to the feed barge, we

watched the fish getting bathed to clean their gills, we

looked in the pens through the cameras and we saw how

the fish were fed. Depha told us about the nets.

“It was ripper” “I had a good yarn to the crew”

“It was fun” Sam, Violet, Drew, Josh, Tobias.
