Knowledge is far more

important as i t imparts
knowledge to others. I can still
clearly remember that I started
enjoying teaching at a very
young age.
After I learnt something new, I
was always trying to share my new
discovery with my little companions.
My teaching experience of 11 years
hasnot only helped me to improve my
teaching sk i l l s but a lso has
encouraged me to pursue a lifelong
career in teaching.
I remember when I started
teaching grade 4 students for the first
time, I was very excited but at the
same time a little nervous. Luckily,
m o s t o f m y s t u d e n t s
understood my teaching methods
very fast but a few of them were not
interested in Mathematics subject at
all. I took up the challenge and with
thorough preparation for each
concept and constant thinking of how
to improve my teaching methods; I
could make my subject lively for all
the students in my class.
Eventually they started enjoying
math a lot. That was just the
beginning of my career as a
teacher but this experience
made me more confident and
passionate about my work.
I strongly feel that great
teachers are not just ones who
transmit information, teach skills and
help students earn the best grades
but are those who share their
passion for knowledge and curiosity
with their students. As a teacher I
learnt that every day I should be
prepared to accept a new challenge
and be challenged by the students as
every student possesses unique
perspectives. I am grateful that I
chose teaching as a career as this
has made me what I am today.

Benefits of reading
A book is our best friend. In our
society we have friends and foes. Even
the so-called friends can cheat us in
times. However, books are our never-
failing friends. Just like a good friend, it
gives us company during free time. A
good book guides us in our lives. A book
is a window to the outside world. They
help us understand all that happens in
the other parts of the world. Books take
us to a world where we could only
dream of going. For eg., Harry Potter
series takes us to another world. Books

vocabulary and
also take us to an
imaginary world
where she talks
about climbing
trees that have
no end, people
who live on trees
and sleep on
clouds. There are many books that are
available to read but since we cannot
read all, we need to select wisely.

If I were a teacher If I would be a teacher, I would be
different. I would teach all with a
passion in my heart. I would be the
teacher of my favourite subjects
Mathematics and English. I would give
them enough homework, even if that
would make the children sad as it
would surely help them to get good
grades in their exams. I would not
teach them using the boring ways but
use interesting ways like how my
teachers use to teach me. I would
never lose my temper and never ever
beat them. I would ensure that they
participate in maximum activities in
the school.
And the way
I would be
as a teacher,
I know their
well wishes
will be with
me and my
blessing with them even when they go
to the higher grades.

Save Girl Child
Who says we, Indians are living in a free world or in a modern world? I don't agree with this at all. As even today we see the girl child being killed. Female foeticide is still prevalent in India. Parents and society consider a girl child burden over them and understand that girls are consumers whereas boys are producers. There are lots of myths in the Indian society about girls from the ancient time that girls always take and boys always give. This happens because the parents are not educated and the society that they live in firmly believes that it is okay to kill a girl child.
But a question for all, who would marry the boys you save if you kill the girls? How would the families move ahead? So it is now time to prevent the brutal killings of the girls and eliminate female foeticide from India. So, we all
should work together to build a country that is proud to give birth to girls and not kill them.

Diwali vacations
This Diwali vacations my father gave
my mother and me a surprise. He came
back from the office and announced at the
dinner table that we were finally going for a
much awaited trip to Ooty. My father loves
adventure and hence he decided to travel
by bus rather than by flight. While travelling
we were feeling very hot, but when we got
down from the bus it was very cold. The
climate was very good. Father had booked
a room in a hotel. So we went there and
freshened up. I was getting restless as I
didn't want to wait in the hotel but wanted
to go and do some sightseeing. And in the
sightseeing I saw the real beauty of India.
The place was amazing. There were a lot of
places to visit in Ooty. We went to visit the
rose garden, shooting point, Pykara Lake
and falls. They were just wonderful places.
We also went to visit the famous Ooty
lakes. For the first time I ended up clicking a
lot of selfies. This was a trip I would never
forget. When the trip ended I was in tears.
But I cheered up when my father promised
us another trip in the next vacations. Nikhila Sri

Learning Disabilities
Poor performance of school children has always been a cause of concern. We teachers often find some children read very slowly, some others make obvious mistakes in reading and some others get confused in spellings and make careless mistakes in writing common words.
The teachers and parents may know that the child is 'struggling' but might not be able to tell why. Often times, this is attributed to either low intelligence or sheer laziness on part of the students. These children have problems either in the areas of reading, writing, spellings or maths or combinations thereof. Surprisingly, these children are very smart at everything except academics. So, parents fail to understand this discrepancy between what parents think they are actually capable of and how they finally perform in exams. Therefore, the parents and many a times the teachers themselves see these problems as “intentional' acts and put the blame on the children.
So what may be the actual problem? It might be just that these children have a “Hidden Handicap”- a handicap that is not as obvious as other physical disabilities. These are the children with “Learning Disabilities (LD)”.
Children with LD face a significant challenge primarily in reading ('Dyslexia'), writing ('Dysgraphia') and even Mathematics ('Dyscalculia'). Undiagnosed, these children may become de-motivated in school, may become frustrated with their own lack of academic progress and more importantly, may lose the joy of learning. Most of them lose their confidence at early stages. These internal tensions may manifest as behavioural or adjustment problems at home or in school.
But the prospects are bright for these children. Early identification and remedial education thereafter is critically important for these children and can prevent accumulation of problems ending in failure and frustration. It is important to remember that a child with LD can LEARN. Learning Disabilities should not impair a child's potential to lead a happy, normal and successful life. For the teachers, the key is to remember “If I can't learn the way you teach, will you teach me the way I can learn?”.
