Reception’s Visit to Underwater Street
We had a brilliant day at Underwater Street. Underwater Street is a fun-filled
place of exploration, investigation, creativity and imagination. The children were able to choose a variety of different activities including climbing up a climbing
wall, stepping inside a giant bubble, panning for gold, painting a life-size mini car
and much more. Louis Sumner, "I liked finding numbers inside the dark cave, it was scary."
Abigail Hooton, "I loved the science show, especially the rocket!"Isabelle Starr, "My favourite part was the climbing wall, because we could sit on
the top."Ben Pomeroy, "I liked painting the car, because I painted one of the windows."
Amanda Hallam, "I liked standing inside the giant bubble. I did it twice!"
Alexandra Whitehead, "My favourite part of the trip was having a little nap on the bus!"
Owen Ashton, “I liked going in the TV studio and seeing myself on television."
As you can see we all had a wonderful day. Well done to both classes for excellent behaviour throughout the day.

We had a special visit from Eve and PC Martin before the holiday. They brought a real police carrier for Year
One to see. The carrier was yellow and it had blue flashing lights on top. It had lots of seats in the back.
At the front there was a camera so if cars were far away they can see the license plate.
They brought shields that protect themselves when they
are doing their jobs. If anyone is naughty they have special handcuffs. If they move their hands they get
tighter and tighter.
We saw a big cage in the back of the carrier and got
locked inside. It was great fun! Thank you Eve and PC Martin.

Year One’s visit from a Police Carrier.
We walked all the way into town to visit the fire station. We met a fireman called Barry who showed us around the station. He showed us a fire engine. On the wall we saw
an axe.
We went into a dark room and used a special camera to see what was cold and what was warm.
Before we left everyone had a turn at spraying the hose!
We had a good time at the fire station.

At 10am on Wednesday 15th June 2011 more than 100,000 kids will march for road safety from their school gates in the annual Giant Walking Bus! This brilliant event is part of Brakes’ ‘Kids Say Slow Down’ campaign and raises awareness of
the dangers of traffic especially around Schools. Every year Brake tries to beat their own world record for the biggest walking bus and this year Norwood are taking part too!
This giant march for a giant reason: to say no to speeding drivers, and yes to walking! The UK has one of the worst
death rates in Europe of children killed on foot, most on their way to or from school. Half of the children in the U.K are driven to school, increasing pollution and danger.
So on Wednesday 15th June 2011 please ensure that your child has a waterproof coat with them as at 10 a.m we will all
be taking part in the Giant Walking Bus to help raise awareness of the importance of road safety.
If any parents are interested in taking part in this event and are free to help from 9:45 a.m on Wednesday 15th June 2011, please contact the office as soon as possible. Your help will be much appreciated!

What is pink?
By Lauren Morgan and Libby Spencer
Year 5 have been writing poems in the style of Christina Rosettie's, ‘What is pink?’
Last week’s competition was a design a monster competition. There were some great entries, but the winner has to be a blue, 60cm high, papier
mache creation called Star Vinny, who is a school dinner eating monster! This was made by Joshua Bunting of 1B. Congratulations Joshua!
As we have been talking about the environment in assemblies this week’s competition has an environmental theme. World Environment Day was on
5th June and the theme this year was ‘Forests: Nature At Your Service’. So this week’s competition is to make a tree from recycled materials. Find
more about World Environment Day at www.unep.org/wed
Pop your entry in the Shinewaves postbox, or hand in at the office if it is too big, with your name and class on the back by the morning of Tuesday
14th June.
