FAREWELL AND THANK YOU MRS
ZEALLEY! After 13 years as the Business Manager at GK, Pauline Zealley finishes
today. Pauline starts a period of Long Service Leave tomorrow and will
officially retire on December 15th 2014.
Behind the scenes in the administration area, Pauline has done a remarkable
job of managing the administration team along with a broad range of
administrative tasks that have included overseeing and managing the
school’s Human Resources, Finances and Facilities.
Nothing has ever been too much trouble for Pauline. Whether problem
solving, data entering, undertaking audits, establishing administrative
procedures, sourcing resources, balancing budgets, employing staff,
assisting with inquiries etc., Pauline’s handling of any task has always been exemplary. Admirably,
Pauline has always been noted for working to task, not time, and on many occasions, she has well
and truly exceeded her usual working hours simply because she still had work to do.
Pauline has been a highly valued and respected staff member at GK. As the school was first
established in 1988, Pauline has worked at GK for half of the life of the school. A lot of stories she
could tell! It goes without saying that we will miss Pauline, not only for her work ethic and
capabilities, but also for her terrific sense of humour, resilience, tolerance and importantly her social
conscience and values.
All of us, students, staff, parents and friends of GK join together to say ‘thank you Pauline for all that
you have done for us and the school over 13 years. Congratulations on your many
accomplishments (the last one being the introduction of Qkr to the community) and every best wish
for wonderfully healthy, happy and fulfilling years ahead.” We celebrated Pauline’s last day by
having P for Pauline day so all the staff wore Pyjamas. We gave her a very bright Tweety Pie
Onesy which she wore very well!!
PARENT FEEDBACK OPPORTUNITY 2014 is a school review year during which the school undertakes a ‘closer look’ at what we are
doing, how well we are doing it and how we might be able to improve on what we are doing. All
government schools participate in an ongoing cyclical evaluation process which involves Annual
Reports, the development of Annual Implementation Plans and every four years, participation in a
school review process which then informs the development of the next four year School Strategic
Plan.
The Education Department’s accountability process sees schools constantly involved in data
collection and review. Data collected comprises student achievement data, financial management
data, Human Resources data and so on.
A further information source is our parent community. Each year, a number of parents are randomly
selected to participate in a departmental Parent Opinion Survey. The school also seeks parent input
in a range of other ways including through other local surveys, information sessions and existing
parent group channels such as PFA, School Council and various sub-committees (Education and
Policy, Finance, Uniforms, Out of School Hours Care, Facilities).
Once again, we invite interested parents to share their thoughts, suggestions and opinions with us.
A survey form will be distributed to each family today. For each category, we’d like your input into:-
What is working well? What could be improved? How could improvement be made?
If you can find a spare moment, we would be very grateful for your feedback which will not only help
to inform our school review and reflection process, but also help to inform our ongoing planning for
continuous improvement.

2014 GKabulous Art Show2014 GKabulous Art Show2014 GKabulous Art Show2014 GKabulous Art Show The many hours of organisa2on and prepara2on paid off last Thursday evening as we celebrated the ar2s2c and crea2ve talents of our
GK school community. The evening was filled with colour and awe by parents, students and extended family members as they mar-
velled through the vast displays of art work from our students, including chook sheds, fantasy eyes, Picasso inspired faces, artwork from
the OSHC program and the outstanding ceramic and mosaicked murals made by Years 5 and 6 during the Ar2st In Residence Program.
We were entertained by some fabulous GK students who have worked hard over the past few weeks to prepare for their performance.
Well done to the Junior Choir, Year 5 Djembe Drumming Group and the Italian singing group. A very big thank you to, Mrs LoreBa Sim-
monds and Mrs Sandra Portaro for preparing the students and giving them the opportunity to perform. A big thank you to all the stu-
dents that assisted on the night, the many volunteers that put their hand up to be helpers and the Student Leaders, Brooke Kandell,
Rhiannon Rowse, Chloe Widdicombe and Bethany Chisholm for doing a magnificent job welcoming guests as well as introducing and
closing each session.
Well done to all entrants of the family 3D challenge, a fantas2c effort by all. The entries were of such a high standard that it was difficult
to choose a winner from such a vast variety of crea2ve artworks. However, congratula2ons goes to the CoBer family for their fabulous
sculpture of a peacock using colour coded personal objects which were collected and recycled. In recogni2on of their effort the family
will be visi2ng Heide Gallery to enjoy the vast array of exhibi2ons and the magnificent grounds.
Many thanks to the PFA who worked 2relessly at the GK Café and the Sausage Sizzle. A big thank you to all the parents and helpers who
assisted with both the prepara2on before the Show and during the pack up and dismantling of the display boards aFerwards. It could
not have happened without your assistance. Much appreciated.
All this effort has been rewarded with the GK community raising approximately $1000 which will be put towards an ar2s2c installa2on
for our beau2ful school grounds.
Lastly, I take this opportunity to thank everyone that was involved students, staff, parents, Debbie Qadri (Ar2st In Residence), Heide
Gallery and in par2cular the 2014 Arts Team, LoreBa Simmonds, Merrin Tunnecliffe, Hannah Longo, Mary-Ann O’Reilly, Sandra Portaro
and Katherine Oswin for all your hard work and inspiring commitment and enthusiasm. Well done

Glen Katherine PS School Magazine 2014 This year we are planning on having our school magazine printed in full colour. We anticipate
that it will be circulated to approximately 350 families in our local community.
This is a great opportunity for local businesses to become business partners in the publication of
our magazine. Your business can take advantage of this networking opportunity by purchasing
advertising space in the 2014 school magazine.
The cost of this partnership would be $100 for a business card size advertisement or $150 for ¼ page advertisement.
If you are interested in taking up this offer please fill in the expression of interest form and
return to school by the end of term 3, Friday 19th September.
As we have limited advertising space, please get your expressions of interest in early.

SPORTS NEWS
FOOTY DAY 2014 Our annual Footy Day will be held on Friday 19th September (the last day of Term3).
We are wondering if any Glen Katherine parents have contact with any of the AFL clubs or stores which stock small sporting
items which could be donated for us to use as prizes on the day. Items such as drink bottles, rules, pens, small balls, children’s
magazines or books would be great.
Please contact the GK office if you are able to assist in any way
Thank you

Vic Basketball
Last week I was lucky enough to spend the week in Townsville playing basketball in the
U12 Vic basketball team.
My favourite part about the trip was meeting all the different states and making new
friends for a life time, also playing at such a high level of basketball. It was a massive
learning point when I learnt about all the different cultures.
Scoring
I scored about 60 points over the whole tournament which made me the 3rd highest scor-
er in the Vic team (10th highest scoring out of all the states).
Teams
We won our first 5 games; QLD 53-41, WA 77-35, NT 66-14, ACT 80-9 and the SA 74-30.
Our hardest game was our 6TH game against NSW. We then played QLD in the semi
finals and won 72-52. We played NSW in the Gold medal play off and knew it was going
to be a tough game. Victoria bought home the silver but we had an awesome tourna-
ment.
Thanks
