Welcome to our second newsletter of the academic year
when we once again find ourselves in lockdown and the chal-
lenging circumstances that go alongside this. Despite this
unusual situation, we are proud of how our school communi-
ties have risen to the challenge showing their commitment
and dedication to providing the best opportunities for the
children in our care.
Our school leaders and their teams are passionate about
ensuring the opportunities we provide continue to enhance
the life chances of the pupils in our care.
We would like to thank all members of our communities for
their on-going support and understanding at this difficult
time.
Do keep yourselves safe and stay well,
Ruth Doughty Nicole Caulfield CEO Deputy CEO

Remote Learning Each of the five schools has developed their remote learning offer and details can be found on the Covid tab of each school’s website. The Remote Learning Policy and Remote Learning Offer make the expecta ons clear so that we are able to ensure consistency in our approach, set expecta ons for all members of the school community and provide guidelines for safety. If your household is struggling to access the remote learning offer, please contact your school’s Head Teacher.
Tours of the school Each of the schools had a video made to promote their schools for the 2021 intake as we were unable to allow visitors on site to tour the school in the usual way. If you know anyone who is considering sending their children to any of our schools please encourage them to visit the individual school websites to watch the videos.

Culverstone Green Primary School
Christmas Despite the COVID‐19 limita ons, Christmas well and truly arrived at Culverstone Green Primary School. Lots of events took place over the month of December to bring well needed Christmas cheer to our school. We held our virtual Carol Service, with every class par cipa ng. We were, as always so proud of the children, very grateful to all the staff for their hard work and delighted by all of the posi ve comments and feedback from our school community. We held our annual ‘Christmas jumper day’ to raise money for ‘Save the Children’ and
‘Elf day’ to raise money for the ‘elf service’ (NHS). We were delighted to have raised over £300. Across the school, we held a Christmas door compe on, where each class had to decorate their classroom doors in the most Christmassy way and showcasing their own work, for the chance of winning a cash prize for their class to purchase addi onal play equipment. The compe on was judged by our Chair of Governors, Mrs Gail Cox, and the winning door was won by Elmer class (Recep on).
Outdoor Learning
Great News – The school has been very lucky to have secured a small amount of funding to support our well‐being provision, we are looking forward to spending this money on enhancing our sensory and wellbeing areas.
We like to find as many opportuni es as possible to learn outdoors and use our local environment, to get plenty of fresh air, take some exercise, enjoy the local countryside, learn about architecture, observe and learn about nature and wildlife, create some interes ng art, bring nature and the outdoor into our curriculum for example in maths or English; boost our well‐being and to have fun!

The award recognises our desire to promote reading for pleasure within the school community. Reading is such an important area of our curriculum as it lays the founda ons for learning in all subjects. New, exci ng and relevant texts have been introduced to our Key Stage 2 classes including: The Boy at the Back of the Class, There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom and The Firework Maker’s Daughter. Our fantas c reading ambassadors have been an important part of promo ng reading for pleasure at MCA They were responsible for planning and leading various ac vi es at
school during our 'Wild' themed book week including our story in a jar compe on and exhibi on, a book character scavenger hunt and reading taster sessions in our reading café. Parents were invited to join us for shared reading sessions and to view an exhibi on of story jars. Author David Litchfield shared one of these jars on his Twi er account as it represented his book: The Bear and the Piano. We enjoyed a two day visit from author Adam Guillain as he sparked an enthusiasm for reading (and wri ng) with lively assemblies and class workshops. A special thank you to Mrs Farrington, our Accelerated Reader lead, who helps all the teachers and children with everything AR.
We were really proud of the way that the Meopham community has come together during these challenging mes. In the lead up to Christmas we were keen to create some Christmas spirit. As we were not able to fundraise
in the usual ways, we set a target of £200 and asked whether anyone would like to donate towards making Christmas fun for the children at MCA. The response was astonishing with an amazing £1,567 being donated by
parents, grandparents and others within the community. This ensured that we were able to celebrate in school, knowing Christmas outside of school wouldn’t be the same. This included a virtual pantomime, cra ac vi es, dancing into school each day to Christmas music and the staff flash dance on the last day of term!
MCA awarded a Kent Literacy Award
Christmas
We also ran our usual Salva on Army Christmas appeal with families dona ng gi s for local children in need. Again, the response was fantas c. We hope to have the Salva on Army brass band return next year for our Christmas Carol Service. We would like to thank our parents and the whole of the Meopham community for their generosity.

Riverview Infants had a very exci ng ‘Crea ve Week’ celebra ng all things to do with Art, DT and Music! Children were immersed in the theme of ‘Oodles of Doodles’. Each class had fantas c art workshops
with ar st Becky Vincer from ‘Animate Arts’ based in Canterbury. The children absolutely loved taking part in a whole range of crea ve ac vi es based upon the graffi ‘doodle’ art work inspired by the famous ar st Keith Haring, resul ng in a brilliant 3D installa on in the main hall. During the week every class also met ‘Mr Junkman’! Children enjoyed playing his variety of instruments made out of oil drums, bicycle wheels, pots ‘n’ pans and much more. Every
child then got to make their own ‘carpet tube drum’ and jam along to some funky music. What a super me had by all!

Star ng last year, Year One have been able to visit Forest School every term and it offers all learners regular opportuni es to develop confidence, self‐esteem and teamwork. The children have the opportunity to run, make a noise, get their hands dirty and learn in a natural space whilst learning to respect their environment. We link the sessions to the children’s learning in the classroom: the children observed how the Forest had changed in Autumn; created leaf rubbings and made dens for nocturnal animals. The children love the sessions and they help support the children’s well‐being and develop resilience, independence, co‐opera on and problem‐solving skills. It is always a highlight of each term!
Our Founda on Stage children have comfortably se led into their school life. They have gained such confidence with the rules and rou nes that make up their school day in Recep on. Our mornings are largely teacher directed, when the children develop their mathema cal and literacy skills and prac se their phonic recogni on. All ac vi es are fun and exci ng, inspiring the children to want to learn more. The children are free to discover their own talents and interests during our child ini ated sessions, where their independence and personal interests are carefully extended through the teacher’s skilled use of observa on and ability to plan for next steps. Here the children come into their own, developing a huge range of PSE skills alongside physical development and understanding of the world. It really is a me for the teachers to get to know and understand their class and what makes them ck!

The whole school enjoyed DT day, where all the ac vi es were based around specific skills for Design and Technology. Year 3 learned how to weave paper and then used this skill to make their own looms. It was difficult but with lots of resilience and pa ence, the end products looked great! Year 4 learnt how to do different s tches. They then designed their own picture and brought this to life using their new sewing skills. Year 5 designed and created a marble maze. They needed detailed designs, including all their measurements. Many
used wood and saws to make the walls of their maze. Year 6 designed and created their own board game. The difficult part was that each game had to have one electrical element (for example a buzzer) and one structural element (e.g. a bridge). With lots of imagina on and hard work, these were fantas c!
Riverview Junior School Farm We would like to introduce and give a big welcome to Daisy, Blossom and two others whose names will be soon chosen by the children to the Riverview Junior school family. They are the cutest guinea pigs and a huge hit with the children already!
Last term Year 4 had Egyp ans day. A massive thank you to everyone who dressed up – you all looked amazing! We spent the day having fun taking part in all kinds of art and cra ac vi es: we used salt dough to create cartouches embedded with the hieroglyphs to spell out our names, created silhoue e sunset pictures, perfected our observa onal skills drawing winged scarab beetles and completed our embroidered Egyp an Nile scenes that we began on DT day.
There was plenty of mess… but everyone had a great me!

Pirate Day For Interna onal Primary Curriculum this term, Year 2 have been learning about Treasure Islands. We have had a lot of fun learning about pirate explora on, how to talk like a pirate, how pirates travelled around the world and what treasures they stole! ‘We truly became pirates and sang pirate shanty songs and made our very own precious golden doubloons out of clay. A fun and fierce exit point to our IPC topic.’
This year we con nue with Language Ambassadors but keep peer teaching within the class bubbles. Language Ambassadors model the pronuncia on of key words in front of their class for everyone to repeat. Or, if there are par cular children who are struggling with the pronuncia on (for example when comple ng the register in Greek), Language Ambassadors carry out
some extra peer teaching in a small group during registra on me. Next term we will be learning Turkish.

To enable our School Councillors to ease into their new roles, they will be planning and organising a Wrotham Road Kindness Day, to take place later in the Spring Term. The school councillors will collect ideas to help spread extra kindness around the school during this day.
Kindness day
On Friday 11th December millions of people in the UK put on a Christmas jumper to raise money for Save The Children. Wrotham Road raised £453 this year!
This year Diwali was celebrated within class bubbles during Enrichment me on Friday 13th November.
