THE FMF WAYFor over 45 years, Flemington Midget Football has provided instruction and support to thousands
of successful athletes. During that time, we have developed a unique culture, based around five
core beliefs that guide everything we do. “The FMF Way”, is what al lows us to successful ly
develop our athletes physical ly, mental ly and emotionally while providing them with positive
experiences and memories that wil l last a l ifetime. THE FMF WAY is:
FAMILYOnce a member, always a member
SAFETYAthlete safety first, last & always
TEACHINGCoaching is teaching
TEAMWE@ not me
SUCCESSShare the work, share the reward
Team success is a by-product of coaches developing every athlete to their personal potential as
they progress through the program. Good teams become great when coaches view practice as an
opportunity to help their athletes grow and develop and when athletes view practice as an
opportunity to maximize their contribution to the team.
No one can win by themselves. We all have to trust and rely on each other for the team to be
successful. Both coaches & athletes must be prepared to do whatever is necessary for the good of
the team. Great teams are built on Teamwork, Dedication, Effort and Trust. . . lessons that wil l help
our athletes succeed in sports and in l ife.
I t is every coach’s responsibi l ity to teach the fundamental ski l ls and strategies of their sport to ALL
of their athletes. I t is every athlete’s responsibi l ity to put forth the effort to learn. I f an athlete gives
the effort, coaches must do whatever is necessary to help them learn and improve. Athletes that
progress through our program giving honest effort WILL enter high school with a competitive
advantage in skil ls and tactics
The health and safety of our athletes comes before everything else. Parents trust us with their
chi ldren; we must do everything in our power to return them safely. Athletes must let their coach
know if they are injured and must not return to action unti l they are ful ly ready.
Whenever an athlete competes as a Pioneer or Jr. Red Devil , they join a long tradition of
excellence. Many have come before us; we must honor their work by our actions. Many wil l come
after us; we must provide them with a program to be proud of. Once an athlete becomes part of
our FMF family, they wil l forever be welcome here.

TRYOUT
Flemington Midget Football is a 501 (c)3 organization dedicated to improving the youth of Hunterdon Countythrough competitive Football and Cheer. One of the oldest youth football organizations in the area, from our
founding in 1 967 through 201 0, FMF teams were exclusively known as the Flemington Pioneers. Since 2009, wehave undergone tremendous growth and have reclaimed our original name of FMF. In 2009, we added ourextended season competition cheer team. In 201 0, with the addition our Hunterdon Jr. Red Devils teams, ourfootbal l offerings were expanded from four football teams participating in one league to ten football teamsparticipating in three leagues. In 201 3 we were able to offer, for the first time, an Extended Season CheerTraining Squad for girls who were either too young or not yet prepared for the rigors of our Extended SeasonComp. Team. Thoughout al l of our recent growth, we have worked hard to stay true to our guiding principles ,"The FMF Way", and maintain our position as the premier youth football and cheer program in the central
Hunterdon region.

PIONEER VARSITY
Pioneer Varsity dominates Patriots behind Furmato’s four TDs.
Daniel Furmato led the Flemington Pioneers with four touchdowns as the Pioneers
beat the North Warren Patriots 34-1 3 on Sunday afternoon at the FMF Complex. The game,
original ly scheduled for Saturday night was moved to Sunday due to dangerous
thunderstorms that moved through the area Saturday.
The Pioneers won the coin toss, took the
ball , and proceeded to dominate their opponent,
jumping out to a big lead, and then cruising to
victory. The offense was paced by Furmato,
who had touchdown runs of 21 , 42, 2 and 2
yards and ended his day early in the third
quarter. Bruising runs by RJ Thornton and Brian
Torres behind the crushing blocks of Ryan
Donovan, Jeffrey Anderson, Jordan Cameron
and Dylan Campbell kept the Patriot defense off
balance throughout the first half.
As the first half wound down, Joey Whalen hauled in a 29-yard touchdown pass from
Justin Torres to push the lead to 28-0. Torres was efficient passing in the first half, going 2-
for3 for 49 yards and one touchdown.
A stifl ing defense led by LBs Wil l iam Markey
and Pasquale Vizzoni, DT Colin Campbell , and CB
Jake McPherson put points on the board as well ,
forcing a safety in the second quarter.
The second half saw hard running by Jaylaan
Taylor, Josh Gabriel and Grant Bloch and big tackles
by Anthony Dempsey, Justin Metcalf, and Kareem
Salaam.
The Pioneers wil l travel to Lopatcong Township to take on the Panthers in WCMFL
action next Sunday, 9/1 4.

On Saturday, Sept. 6, the JRD Skylands
varsity opened their 201 4 season at Voorhees high
school taking on the Voorhees Jr. Vikings. Under a
threat of thunderstorms, the JRD kicked off to start
the game. Chris Schwoerer's kick sent the Vikings
back to their 1 0 yard l ine . With pressure from Nick
Brunetti , Christian Callahan, Tim Hough and Terry
Murphy, the ball was fumbled and recovered by
Murphy at the 2. With Brad Totten at quarterback,
and Murphy and Luke Pizzico in the backfield, Murphy's first two attempts to score were
stopped at the 1 yard l ine. On 3rd down, Pizzico was stopped for no gain. Going for it on 4th
down, Totten pitched to Murphy going right and behind blocking from Luke Bakerian, Chris
Lalas and Jason Cozzi, Murphy ran in for the score. The extra point was no good and the JRD
led by a score of 6-0. The JRD kicked off and the Vikings returned the kick to the JRD 44. The
defense, led by Hough, Bakerian, Mike Sposato, Jaiden Taylor, Lalas, Callahan, Schwoerer,
Hough, Cozzi, Murphy and Pizzico stopped another Vikings drive at the 37. With 4th and 3 ,
the Vikings elected to go for it and ran 37 yards down the left side for a touchdown. The extra
point was good and the score was now 8-6. The Vikings kickoff was downed in the end zone
and returned out to the 20. On 1 st down, a reverse to Schwoerer was good for 8 yards, but a
motion penalty wiped out that gain and backed the JRD to their 1 5. A second motion call
against the JRD moved the ball further back to the 1 0. A short run by Murphy and a reverse by
Taylor gave the JRD 3rd and1 0 at their 20. Pizzico punted to the JRD 35. One play later the
Vikings scored on a 35 yard run. The extra point was good and the Vikings led 1 6-6.
2nd quarter:
The JRD opened the 2nd quarter at their own 9. Two great runs by Murphy brought the
JRD out to the 36. Tottens pass to Taylor was incomplete. Murphy broke another run to the 50
where the loose ball was recovered by Schwoerer at the Vikings 45. Two plays later the JRD
was at the 38, but a penalty brought the ball back 1 5 yds to the JRD 47. After 3 and out,
Pizzico punted to the 35. A fumble by the Vikings was recovered by Sposato at the 46. After a
short run by Murphy, a penalty brought the ball back 1 5 yds to the JRD 44. A Viking penalty
moved the ball up 5 yds. Totten hit Schwoerer for a
3 yd gain to the Vikings 48. With visible l ightning,
the referees stopped the game. After waiting 30
minutes and no let up with the l ightning, the game
was suspended.
Back at Voorhees on 9/1 0, we resume
Saturdays game with the the JRD at the Vikings 49
and 2nd down with 4:46 left in the 2nd quarter. After

page 23
a pass attempt to Bakarian, Murphy ripped off a 24 yd run that was called back for i l legal motion.
On the next play, Totten found Schwoerer for a 54 yd touchdown pass. Schwoerer's extra point
was good and the JRD cut the Vikings lead to 1 6-1 4. JRD kickoff was covered well by the JRD
special teams with Jack Aimone and Max Kurdlya in on the stop . Voorhees mounted a good
drive towards the end of the quarter, but pressure from the solid defensive l ine of Hough,
Bakerian, Callahan and McClel lan caused a fumble that was recovered by the JRD at the 1 0 with
1 8 secs left.
3rd quarter:
The JRD received the 2nd half kickoff at their own 24. JRD was unable to mount a drive
and were forced to punt. Vikings also went 3 and out and punted back to the JRD 32. A run and
screen pass to Murphy and run by Pizzico brought the JRD up to Vikings 39. A loss back to the
43 setup 2nd and 1 3. Murphy gained 3 on a run. On 3rd down, Totten found Schwoerer over the
middle for a 40 yd touchdown. Schwoerer's extra point was good, and the JRD took the lead 22-
1 6 going into the 4th quarter.
4th quarter:
Starting at the JRD 48, the Vikings were unable to mount any offense. The D line held a
couple runs to short yard gains and the secondary sealed off the ends to stop a crucial drive. The
Vikings went for it on 4th and 3 and were stopped. JRD took over at their own 40. A run to the 44
and a loss back to the 40 setup a crucial 3rd and 1 0. Totten completed a 1 4 yd pass at the Viking
46. JRD trying to take time off the clock and keep the ball on the ground. The O line of McClel lan,
Sposato, Callahan, Cozzi, Saracinel lo and Kurt Rainey provided solid blocking for the running
game to continue the charge up field. On 4th down with a l ittle over 2 minutes left, the snap got
loose and the Vikings recovered back at the JRD 40. On the first play, the Vikings took a 40 yd
run for a score and with the extra point being good, the Vikings now led 24-22 with 1 :39 left in the
game. JRD took the kick up to the 30. A Vikings penalty and a run to the 42 looked like the JRD
may be able to make this game closer. But a turnover at 45 was all the Vikings needed to finish
the game with a 24-22 victory.

JAMES L. "JIMMY" WILSONOur Number One Fan
Jimmy Wilson left a lasting memory with everyone who visited Pioneer Field throughout the 1 980's and early1 990's. While his wheelchair kept him from taking part on the field, it couldn't keep him from being part of theteam. At the end of every summer, l ike the changing of the seasons, Jimmy was there to usher in footbal l
season. He was as much a part of the Pioneer family as the crack of pads echoing through the crisp autumn airand the roar of the crowd on game day. For close to a decade, Jimmy never missed a game, indeed, he nevermissed a practice in al l of his time with us. His love for the game and for the team was infectious and wil l beforever remembered. In 1 994, after his passing, the organization recognized Jimmy's contribution to our family
by naming the playing field after him and retiring the number one jersey, in memory of their #1 fan.
JOSEPH YASHKAS6/4/85 - 4/29/00 : Forever a Pioneer
Joey Yashkas was a Pioneer through and through. He played football for the program and was a greatteammate and a key member of the team from his peewee days through his eigth grade season. As much ashe loved football and his teammates, Joey also loved racing motorcycles. I t was this love that took Joey from usfar too soon. After the tragic motorcycle accident that took his l ife in 2000, the organization retired his number55 and decreed that in remembrance of Joey and Jimmy, their numbers 1 and 55 be painted in the corner of the
endzone for every home game so that they wil l always be part of our family.
