JUNIOR EDITORIAL

Dear Parents,

I do hope that all BHHS

families had a fantastic

Christmas break and it

was lovely to welcome

the girls back on

Wednesday. On behalf

of the staff and myself, I

would like to say a huge

thank you for the very

kind gifts and cards. We

are still making our way

through the many

chocolates/biscuits etc,

that on a cold January

break-time brighten our

day!

Following my letter

before Christmas, I do

hope that most girls in

Years 1-6 will be able to

support us at the Open

Afternoon on 21st

January. While you may

be happy to leave your

daughter, we are always

delighted to welcome

current parents who may

like to look around the

school during the

afternoon.

It was wonderful to have

our first fixtures against

Brighton College this

week. I was really

pleased with our

commitment. I would

also like to encourage

parents whose daughters

are playing to come

along and support the

teams, you will be very

welcome, particularly to

the lovely match tea

afterwards!

CHALLENGE BOARD

You may have noticed our new

„Challenge Board‟, located by

the pupils‟ entrance. This

board will display challenges

that the girls may choose to

participate in, if they so wish.

Some of the challenges will be

set by teachers, some will be

opportunities that arise outside

of school. The girls will be given

a brief description of the

challenge in assembly, then will

be able to use the board to

find out further information. We

hope this will encourage

independence, self-motivation

and give the opportunity to

demonstrate talents! The first

„Writing Challenge‟ was set by

Miss Berlin; the girls were given

the opportunity to write a

poem entitled „A Celebration

of Light‟. Hannah Briscoe (4D)

won the competition by writing

this poem, which we felt had a

lovely sentiment.

Christmas is fun,

Christmas is neat,

Christmas has lovely things to

eat.

Turkey with gravy,

Pudding with cream,

All of these things,

Seem like a dream.

Father Christmas shouts ‘ho ho

ho’

With his sack on is back and

away he goes.

Rudolph is clever,

Rudolph is bright,

When swiftly darting,

From left to right

But the best thing that happens

on Christmas day

Is that families get together

And that’s how we’ll stay.

Well done Hannah! Girls- keep

your eye on the board to see

which challenges you‟d like to

participate in!

Junior School Eco Committee

members of all ages took part

in a National event on Tuesday

when they donned plastic

tabards and rubber gloves and

went litter picking around our

school grounds. It was part of

„The Big Tidy Up‟, which is run by

the Keep Britain Tidy.

Organisation every year to help

keep our environment free from

unsightly and dangerous litter.

Our „fruit and vegetables only‟

rule for break time snacks

means that we are a very tidy

school with a minimum of litter -

particularly as the Eco

Committee collect the cores

and fruit for compost every

day. Nevertheless the girls still

managed to collect five big

bagfuls of rubbish and

highlighted the need for us to

be even more watchful. A big

thank you to everyone who

helped and we will be making

this a regular feature of the

Junior School in the future.

Yr 5 VISIT TO BIMM

Year 5 learned all about the

technical aspects of making

modern music with an inspiring

team of student teachers

during their pre-Christmas

outing to the Brighton Institute

of Modern Music. The girls

learned everything there is to

know about the trumpet and

developed their musical skills

with Brazilian drumming,

electric guitar special effects

and sang along to the classic

Christmas song “Rockin‟

Around The Christmas Tree”,

performed live in the BIMM

studios with a full backing

band. Lots of fun and loud

musical sounds were enjoyed

by all! Our thanks to Mrs

Hamilton who was able to

organise this for us.
