Hello Neerigen Brook Families and Community Members End of the year I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication to our students and school in 2017. As you will be aware, I have accepted the position of Principal at Charthouse PS and would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and support during this transition period. As I mentioned on Facebook, I have thoroughly loved being part of this wonderful school and community. I truly believe that by raising the expectations of what children in our school can achieve, while providing them with lots of academic and social support, they will rise to the challenge. At Neerigen Brook PS every child matters and I’m incredibly proud of the good work our school community does every day to transform hearts and minds. I’m pleased to announce that Mrs Barrett will take over as Principal at Neerigen Brook PS during first term next year. The permanent position of Principal will be advertised in Term 1 next year so that continuity can be maintained as seamlessly as possible for our school. In other exciting news, Mrs Instance has also been successful in a promotional position and will take over as Principal of Spearwood PS for 2018. Congratulations from us all. On behalf of everyone at Neerigen Brook PS, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy holiday. Mrs Barrett and the team at Neerigen Brook are looking forward to welcoming the students and their families back to school on Wednesday 31 January next year.

Class lists Class lists will be displayed on the windows of the Administration Block on Tuesday 30 January from 12:00pm these lists should be treated confidentially as they contain the names of other children. As such, please ensure that any photos you take of them are for your personal use only and are not posted to social media sites. As with this year, if our student numbers continue to grow over the first few weeks of Term One, we may have to re-structure the school and transfer students from one class to another. If this happens we will keep everyone informed and will manage the move as quickly as we can. To minimise the likelihood of a restructure, please encourage your friends and family to enrol children now in preparation for next year rather than waiting until Term 1, 2018. Christmas Concert Thanks to everyone who came to the Christmas Concert on Tuesday 5 December. I really appreciate that so many families and friends came along to join in the fun. Thanks to Mrs O for organising this annual celebration for the end of the year.

Room 12 went to visit the residents of Opal Aged Care this week. We walked there together. We made cards which we gave them, we sang some songs and we read to them. This intergenerational activity forms part of our learning about National Quality Standard (NQS) - Area 6 which involves building relationships and engaging with our local community. This also covers Quality Area 5, where each child is supported to work with, learn from and help others through collaborative learning opportunities.

Ten older students came with our class as a reward for making good choices, working hard and for being great role models by consistently demonstrating BEST behaviour throughout the year.

This excursion gave our children the opportunity to connect with older people, which they may not have had the chance to do in their home life. We enjoyed the visit and the residents loved it.

Library News We have enjoyed a very successful and rewarding time in the library this year. I would like to thank my library monitors for the wonderful job that they have done helping me and their fellow students. I am always sad to see the Year 6 library monitors leave, but I know that they will embrace high school and the opportunities available to them. I wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas and New Year and look forward to seeing everybody in 2018.

Christmas raffle will be drawn on 12 DEC at the book awards. Tickets $1 . Donations can be left at the canteen. *P&C will be holding a sausage sizzle at the Kelmscott Spudshed on sun 10th dec from 10am - 2pm. Come down and buy a snag and help support our school. If you would like to help at this event please see the ladies in the canteen. * Canteen will be closed Thursday 14th Dec for stocktake. As an alternative we will be holding a cake stall for recess with prices starting from 20c. A sausage sizzle juice and icy pole deal will be available for lunch for $5. *Canteen hours will not change in 2018* * We have had an outstanding year and I would like to thank the parents, staff and students for their unwavering support. Have a happy and safe Christmas. We look forward to seeing you all in 2018.
