Transcript of Issue 11 Wednesday, September 12, 2018...Meets each Wednesday 6:00 for 6:15PM at The Shamrock Hotel...
Last week, it was great to welcome back to our meeting a former member in Syd Cowan. Syd and Wendy were up here on holidays catching up with relatives and friends.
We also welcomed our NYSF student, Nicola Grobler and her father Philip. Nicola spoke about her hopes andaspirations and is looking forward to attending NYSF in Canberra in January. We look forward to her addressing the club on her return. We wish her well.
Our guest speaker for the evening was Lisa Loots theDirector of Head Space Mackay. She gave an overview of all the services they provide and the area they cover. The services mainly cater for the youth under 25. It isbasically a mental health organisation and also helps the youth connect with GP services and employment. The service is conducted free of charge to young people. It is under the auspice of Northern Australian Primary HealthLimited. It’s been our club’s pleasure to help this organisation out in many ways by providing the fully stocked trailer that Shane and Ricky use. This year, it’s fantastic that we havedecided to donate the profits from the Swap Meet to this worthy cause.
I would just like to remind all members if you require a new club shirt that you need to see Nathan at “Get RealWorkwear & Safety” near Bunnings at Paget. Any orders need to be placed soon because it can take up to 2 weeks to be supplied.
The Swap Meet roster will be circulated again thisWednesday. If you haven’t yet placed your name down, and are able, please do so as we need your support.
Secretary Eric will be away for three weeks. Please don’t forget to send your apologies to him as normal as he will send these on.
A date claimer: Kids Christmas party – Ocean International - Sunday 2/12.
Lastly our meeting for this week will be in the Garden View Room as there is another function in the Pavilion.
Have a good week everyone.
Yours in Rotary.
Be the Inspiration.

Using a Power Point Presentation, Guest speaker, Lisa Loots, Regional Manager for Headspace inMackay, updated the meeting on the current operations of Headspace, their services and how they fit into thecommunity. It would be great to think that Headspace services were no longer required, but the need seems to grow. This year we hope to upgrade the facilities in the Headspace Trailer. A grant is pending for thispurpose. Proceeds from this year’s Swap Meet will go to Headspace.

For this year’s National Youth Science Forum (NYSF), we will sponsor Nicola Grobler. Nicola is one of seven students selected for NYSF from our District 9570 zone and will attend the Forum at the Australian National University in Canberra in January 2019. Nicola is currently in year 11 at Whitsunday Anglican School, she addressed the meeting about her plans for the future and on how NYSF will be a help in deciding exactly which direction to take in her chosen medical field. Photo shows Nicola with her father, Philip, Principal Town Planner at Mackay Regional Council and our own Ian Ritchie. The Grobler family are originally from Cape Town in South Africa and have been in Mackay for the past eight years.
The fair is fast approaching and we need to confirm our commitment so the organisers know who is doing what jobs. Thank you to those who have already contacted me to confirm their availability. Can you please contact me on [email protected]
if you are able to work on a stall. We definitely need more workers for the Pick of the Stall, Cake stall, lucky dips and servers for the food van. However, if you are unable to work either Fri or Sat nights (or both) you can contribute by baking home goodies or giving a donation. Kerry will be collecting gifts for the cent sale. These need to be around $15 per item or you could also send them with your man.
The movie “Ladies in Black” is coming to the Mackay City Cinema. I wondered if anyone was interested in seeing it as a group on Thursday 18/10. Can you let me know your thoughts. Perhaps we could have dinner beforehand if the movie time allows.
