Mr V’s news...As we enter the 7th week of Term 2, we can refl ect on the many enjoyable moments this year. There’s no doubt 2020 will be a year to remember! I wanted to start my weekly report by commending our Year 6, Student Leaders. Mia Ireland, Os van Velthuizen, Ellie Michel, Sam Hall, Pyper Dawson and William Whalan have done an exceptional job of fulfi lling their respective roles during some trying circumstances. Watching them help younger students and lead by example both in the classroom and on the playground is very satisfying. Well done!

Last week we advised you of our rescheduled date for Superhero Day. This fantastic fundraising event will take place on the last day of the school Term – Friday the 3rd of July. Students and staff are invited to dress as a superhero to raise critical funds for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation. To celebrate this occasion, the school gives the children a Super Burger and drink (the canteen will be closed on this day). Superhero Day started at WPS as a way of celebrating the life of Logan Taylor and ensuring we continue to support research into the hideous illness that is brain cancer.

On Friday, we hosted a very casual assembly with the main focus being acknowledging the outstanding eff orts of students at WPS. Whilst we are still unable to have parents on site to share in such events, it was very special to see our terrifi c boys and girls shake hands with their teachers and be applauded by their peers for a job well done!

My sleep might be very restless this coming Wednesday night as I dream of delicious pies coming our way! That’s right - Our P&C Pie Drive orders will be delivered on Thursday. I know what the van Velthuizen family are having for dinner on Thursday night! Whilst the orders came in slowly at the start of the Pie Drive, they came in thick and fast towards the end and this event broke last year’s record. Thank you to our school community for again supporting this excellent event. Also, many thanks to our P&C Committee and Coordinator – Mrs Sarah Taylor for their eff orts.

Over recent weeks, I have included reminders about Kindergarten enrolments for 2021. Whilst we have an accurate list of who we are expecting, our ongoing concern relates to ensuring that we only accept students who are either local enrolments or students who already have siblings at WPS. Our catchment area is signifi cant in size and we now have a more accurate map to work with, however we need to direct non-local enrolments to their appropriate school . In the fi rst instance, any parent who is not sure about which school their child should attend in 2021 should simply contact our school offi ce so that we can provide more information or discuss the process further. Please contact me personally to discuss!

Our 2021 Kindergarten Transition program is due to commence in Term 3 with a Parent Information Session to be held in our incredible Library on Wednesday the 12th of August at 6pm. The following day, I will accompany prospective parents on a school tour whilst our 2021 children participate in the annual Kinder Roundup! From this point, there are fi ve transition dates where children will attend our school and develop their familiarity with school routines and staff . I know we’re extremely excited about meeting these little people and welcoming many new families into our school community.

Finally, parents are reminded that Semester 1 Report Cards are being carefully developed to provide a comprehensive update as to student progress made so far this year. These reports will be distributed on the last day of Semester 1.

Have a terrifi c week.

Dan van Velthuizen - Principal
