Topping up CeremonyTo mark the physical completion of the eagerly-awaited Bedok Integrated Complex (BIC), Kampong Chai Chee Grassroots Organisations (GROs), with the support of Sport Singapore and other agencies, organised a Topping-Up celebration on 9 April 2016. More than 2,000 residents had fun participating in fringe activities during the celebration. Residents also had the chance to sample some of the latest programming contents that the various agencies plan to introduce at the new complex when it opens in phases from the first half of 2017.

Joining the residents were Grassroots Advisers to East Coast GRC and Fengshan SMC GROs, Minister Lim Swee Say, Senior Minister of State, Dr Mohd Maliki Osman, Ms. Jessica Tan, Ms. Cheryl Chan

and Host Advisor Lee Yi Shyan. The Advisers officially unveiled the new name of the Complex – Heartbeat @ Bedok – which will be one of the largest Integrated Complexes in Singapore housing facilities such as the Kampong Chai Chee Community Club (CC), Sport Singapore’s indoor and outdoor sports facilities, F&B and retail outlets. The complex sits on a 2.1 ha land, about the size of three football fields and is within walking distance from the Bedok MRT Station and Bus Interchange. Residents are looking forward to the complex opening and are thrilled at the prospect of engaging in various family activities such as swimming, studio-dancing, reading books and magazines and attending Zumba classes among many other activities.

Residents of East Coast GRC and Fengshan SMC gathered to share their views on Budget 2016. Members of Parliament of each constituency shared on how economic policies and new initiatives can help businesses grow. It was the social policies which had everyone interested as schemes such as the Child Development Account (CDA) First Step Grant, Fresh Start Housing Scheme, Special Employment Credit for persons with disabilities were presented. Residents also asked about the Silver Support Scheme and its benefits for seniors from the lower income category. In addition, the work supplement program was also well received as it benefits families in the long-run.

Budget Dialogue

One other policy which stood out during the discussions was the One-off GST Voucher – Cash Special Payment, paid in addition to the regular GSTV- Cash, Medisave and U-Save. Residents shared on how this would greatly help them off-set households expenses.The dialogues were very productive and residents expressed their appreciation at the efforts to engage them and have their questions answered.

Fire at eunos crescentOn the morning of 7 April 2016, a fire broke out near a unit on the 7th floor, Block 18, Eunos Crescent. A fire engine, two Red Rhinos, two fire bikes and a support vehicle were dispatched to put out the fire. Thankfully, residents were able to put out the fire before the firefighters from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived. The SCDF has found that discarded items next to the unit were involve in the starting of the fire.

CARNIVAL OF COLOURS

On 20 March 2016, Changi Simei CC was transformed into a vibrant carnival play land as more than 500 residents had a colourful day filled with stage performances, magic shows, bouncing castle plays and family activities. Member of Parliament, Ms. Jessica Tan, joined in the fun, building camaraderie among multiracial neighbours and families. Riding on the Easter festival, a bunny mascot brought cheers to the children as they expressed their creativity decorating eggs and cookies. Residents also folded paper stars in remembrance of Founding Prime Minister Mr. Lee Kuan Yew.

On 19 March 2016, more than 300 residents of Bedok gathered for an evening of fun and laughter. Hot barbeque stations were set up as families and neighbours grilled their favourite food such as satay, chicken wings, and otah. Member of Parliament, Mr. Lim Swee Say, joined in the fun as residents sang their hearts out to their favourite karaoke songs.

19 March 2016 was an early morning for about 70 residents of Blk 55 New Upper Changi Road as they gathered for a Breakfast cum Dialogue Session with Member of Parliament, Dr. Mohd Maliki Osman. The comforting nostalgic aroma of nasi lemak filled the void deck as residents expressed their joy on the completed upgrading works in their estate. Information on the latest government policies and developments such as MediShield Life were also shared. The gathering ended on a high note as they celebrated the birthday of residents born in the month of March.

20 March 2016 was an exciting day as more than 100 residents with Member of Parliament, Mr. Lee Yi Shyan, gathered for the Health Fiesta Two event. Residents started the morning with low impact exercises followed by a simple breakfast. As they say, healthy living starts from home. Residents were taught how to prepare a healthy version of laksa, fried rice and chicken soup bee hoon with sliced fish. It was certainly a good start to the day!
