3rd June 2016

Dear Parents & Carers,

Next week our students Semester 1 Reports will be handed out. I would like to acknowledge the

dedication our staff have in highlighting to our children to need develop the right attitude to learning.

Our staff assist children to develop a positive ―Mindset,‖ through our ―You Can Do It‖ program and

emotional coaching when they are faced with challenging situations. Over the past couple of weeks,

Teachers have been undertaking Parent/Teacher interviews. As parents, we can support our child‘s

learning progress when faced with a grade they are disappointed with by focusing on what they are

learning, rather than how they feel. We model every day when we come across a task that hasn‘t

turned out the way we thought by trying out new ways of doing things. Our responses support our

children on how we can improve and manage future goals.

We have a very busy week next week, with our Assembly being held on Thursday. Friday is our Cross

Country and SKPS Fun Run. Our P & C will host a Parent Morning Tea next Friday and welcome all

families to join them in the Parent Room at 10:00am until 11:00am for a cuppa.

In Term 3, students will undertake swimming lessons for 4 weeks commencing Week 5. All swimming

enrolment notes are due back by next Thursday the 30th June. No enrolments will be accepted after

this date. The fees for swimming lessons will be due the 4th of August.

The first two days of Term 3 are Professional Development Days for staff and therefore are pupil free

days, students commence Wednesday 20th July. I would like to take this opportunity to wish our school

community, staff, parents, carers and students a very safe and happy holiday.

Regards

Katherine Grant Principal

Burley Sekem & WA Football Commission's 'Design a Football Jumper' competition

Each year the WAFC, in conjunction with Burley Sekem, run a ‗Design a Jumper‘ competition for primary schools across WA. The competition is open from Term 1, with schools submitting their best two jumper designs by the conclusion of week four of term 2. There are two categories: one for regional schools and one for metropolitan schools. The jumpers are displayed at Domain Stadium and voted on by WAFC staff and stakeholders.

There were over 100 registrations for this year‘s competition. We are lucky here at South Kalgoorlie Primary School as our design by Rebekah Carter came Runner Up! Normally the football commission would only award the prize to the winners but they felt like our school also deserved to win. Our school will now receive a set of football jumpers in the winning design later this term. Rebekah has also won a pass for her family to see the Dockers play Geelong at Domain Stadium in the school holidays.

I would also like to acknowledge our school‘s other entry from Georgie Anderson.
