More efficiency is also the result of smooth workflows – free of incidents and accidents. And Walk the Talk is an effective tool to achieve both, safety for all staff and added value through trouble-free production. There- fore the successful implementation of Walk the Talk automatically accomplishes three key entrepreneurial targets: First, the training increasingly raises employee aware- ness for the safe processing of chemicals and hand- ling as well as maintaining plants and machinery. The modules are designed to foster discussion on safety by positive acknowledgement and best practice. Second, Walk the Talk always keeps its users up to date on safety issues and addresses the implications of REACH. Third, it strengthens the image of the chemicals industry as a whole through transparency, credibility and a positive reputation. Better communication and promotion of safety- conscious behaviour is everybody’s responsibility and needs the ongoing commitment of all companies in the industry. Therefore, the member companies of ISOPA (the European Diisocyanate and Polyol Producers Association) have implemented the industry-wide safety programme Walk the Talk to reduce significantly the behaviour- related risk potential in the future. Walk the Talk aims to sensitize all parties concerned by issuing detailed information about risks and hazards in the workplace related to the use of diisocyanates and polyols. The programme offers assistance with the recom- mendations and close co-operation between cus- tomers and suppliers, thus promoting the dialogue on safer use of chemicals. To achieve this target, the member firms have developed a modular package of recommendations and measures which is available to all customers of the polyurethane industry. Less risk is also a question of better knowledge. And better knowledge is best achieved by regular experience exchange, which is why all member companies have been working together on the implementation of Walk the Talk since 2006. More than 90 per cent of the larger producers have implemented the programme, while the average market implementation is over 60 per cent. Meanwhile, the individual modules are available in 22 languages, and a large number of employees have already received special modular training tailored to the specific situation at their sites. Furthermore, the specially created website www .isopa.or g/walkthetalk/ has aroused great interest and the relevant informa- tion packs have been downloaded regularly.
