SC34/WG3 met in conjunction with this conference; SC34 will meet again at XML Europe in Berlin

SC34 started the standardization of markup languages.
Producing a series of standards, beginning with SGML (1986) and continuing through Topic Maps (2000), RELAX (2001), . . .
Continues to maintain existing standards and look ahead to new projects
Many XML project leaders developed their ideas in SC34 and learned how to do standards work there.

SC34 technology is at the core of much XML work.
SGML XML DSSSL XSL, XSLT HyTime XPath, XPointer, Xlink SGML information set (GROVE) XML Infoset
and, outside the W3C, Topic Maps XTM

SC34 has work in progress. SGML adjusted to support XML requirements Fonts, DSSSL being updated and amended RELAX in Fast-Track process as ISO TR Topic Maps may produce several products:
– Extensions and amendments– Models and other technical reports– Query language– Data model (to be shared with XTM)

RELAX is out for ballot, results will be discussed in Berlin
Amendment to DSSSL ready to publish Project proposals for Topic Map Query
Language and Conceptual Model out for initial ballot in JTC1
