As always, please keep an eye out for any suspi-cious activity in our neighborhood and report to our local Police.

In case you hadn’t noticed, a new sign adorns the

landscape at Triangle Park. Its origins are due to

the sheer determination of Civic Association

members Michael Heath, Larry Lunn and Deanne

Groves, partnering with Jim Lewis of Southern Im-

age Inc. and the City of Treasure Island.

Michael Heath, you all know as one of our local

attorneys, but he turned into the driving force for

this project, garnering his design ideas and several

of his contacts to bring the sign to fruition. South-

ern Image (please see Jim’s advertisement below)

engineered, constructed and installed the sign.

Interior Designer Carol Green provided color ad-

vice and All Seasons Landscaping supplied the

plants. The Association received either free ad-

vice or a special price from all the individuals and

companies concerned.

The City provided the new lighting and sprinklers

at no charge; and staff of the Public Works De-

partment added the final touches with the land-

scaping (only to see part of their hard work chal-

lenged by Hurricane Hermine). We are very grate-

ful to City staff for all their help and cooperation.

I should add that the sign was paid for by the As-

sociation from funds raised in the sale of the en-

graved pavers on the bridge. Thanks to all for a

wonderful addition to our Island.

DEAR CITIZENS OF DISTRICT 2, TREASURE ISLAND

Tim Ramsberger was elected, by the voters of District 2, Treasure Island, to serve as their Com-missioner from March of 2014 until March of 2016. On January 28, 2016, Mr. Ramsberger re-signed in order to accept a full time position as deputy director of Visit St. Pete/Clearwater.

On February 2, 2016, I was selected by the re-maining members of the Commission of Treasure Island to serve as Commissioner of District 2, until March of 2017. Since February 2, 2016, I have attended all of the meetings of the Commission and have endeavored to represent the best inter-est of each and every citizen of the District, in every matter that has come before the Commis-sion during my tenure.

In December of 2016, I will be registering to run in the election to be held in March of 2017 for the position of Commissioner of District 2, for the pe-riod March of 2017 to March of 2018. I would very much appreciate your support in my bid to continue in this position.

Please feel free to contact me concerning any matter that concerns you and/or any matter you would like me to address, at any future meetings of the Commission of Treasure Island.

Since I am currently serving as both President of the Isle of Palms Civic Association and Commis-sioner, please call me if I can be of any service to you in either of these capacities.

My cell phone number is: 727-348-4082.

Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

Larry Lunn, Commissioner, District 2 and President of the Isle of Palms Civic Association

City Commissioner’s Message Association Mixer October 25

It was our pleasure to welcome Mayor Bob Min-ning to the October mixer. We had a perfect oppor-tunity to ask him ques-tions and to hear first-hand about City issues. These were the issues of most concern to residents attending the meeting:

Beach Trail negotiations – good progress has been made on current mediation with details to be made public soon.

Funding of bridge maintenance – a financial feasi-bility study into multiple scenarios (not just tolls) for paying for major maintenance is to be com-menced in the new year. Fruitful discussions are being held with the City of St Petersburg to take over the east portion of the Causeway, subject to prior repaving and drainage improvements by Treasure Island.

Future of City buildings – as the buildings are ap-proaching the end of their useful lives, a study is to be undertaken of all the City’s facilities and the general need for parking.

Wastewater dumping during recent storms – wastewater through the pumping station did not exceed the City’s limit with St. Petersburg, howev-er, the system was in a state of emergency due to rain-affected lift station repairs that were under-way at the time.

Mayor Minning also advised that the next beach renourishment is to go ahead as planned in 2018 and he reminded us that the Penny for Pinellas sales tax, which funds Treasure Island’s capital budget, will again be on the ballot in 2018.

We thank Mayor Minning for his time and attention.

Volunteering is good for your brain …not to

mention how much it can help the residents of the Isle of Palms build a robust Civic Association.

Please consider whether you can devote any time. It takes just a few hours a month to make a useful contribution. We urgently

need someone with computer skills for producing the newsletter and maintaining the website. Or, how about organizing entertainment for our monthly mixers?

There are a number of existing officers who wouldn't mind changing roles to accommodate the skill of a new volunteer, so don’t simply go by the vacancies on the list above. Please come to our November meeting to see how you could pitch in. For more information, Deanne (727-368-6800) would love to hear from you.

Please get and use a Collar and ID tag for your pets. It seems as if about 90% of the calls we get involve pets with no means of ID. When we can't identify them we have to turn them over to the police or animal control. I got an assur-ance from the Police Chief that he would try to make it easier for the department to help with strays.

Also, small pet owners should be aware that a number of hawks have been frequenting our Island. I have witnessed a couple of occasions where other birds were taken and killed. If hun-gry enough, hawks will attack smaller dogs and cats. Try not to let your pets out in the yard without keeping a watch out for hawks. They can be identified by their curved beaks.

Let’s keep our friends safe. Mike Balistierri

Beautification Awards

Sunshine

If you know of anyone on Isle of Palms experiencing an illness or bereavement...or celebrating a happy occasion, please share that information

with Lois Nelson at 360-9070, and she’ll send them a card from all of us in the Association.

Speak up and brighten someone’s day!

Since September Lois has sent cards: to Diana Crabill to wish her well for knee surgery, our condolences to Dolores Clevette for her sad loss, to Julian Fant after his nasty fall lopping blackberry bushes at the Fants’ summer home and more recently to wish Donna Spoor speedy healing of the broken bone in her wrist.
