Were not just there forbusinesses; were also here forresidents and tourists whoneed information, such as the procedure for applying for a permitor launching a business, the whereabouts of the library, or anyother local matter, said Chamber President Kathye Susnjer. Theycan come to our Visitors Center; we are the first point of contact.

The Chambers Facebook page offers detailed directions, withthe aid of photos, to the Center, in addition to a constant feed ofnews, events and activities.

History of the ChamberThe Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit 501

(c) (6) corporation, located on the island of Key Biscayne in Miami-Dade County Florida.

The Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce was established in1957 as an association of business owners, residents and profes-sionals who work together to support the economic interests ofthe Key Biscayne community. Membership is open to any person,partnership, association or corporation interested in the business,commercial, professional and civic welfare of the Village of Key Bis-cayne. The Chamber shall, in all of its activities, be non-partisan,non-discriminatory, non-sectarian and non-political.

The Chamber was originally housed in the Key Biscayne Bankwhich donated office space, utilities and use of their office equip-ment. What began as a temporary arrangement evolved into a long-term marriage based on the mutual interests of community service.

In1994, in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, the Chambermoved from the Key Biscayne Bank into donated office space inthe Key Biscayne Shopping Center, made possible by a economicdevelopment contract from the newly established Village of KeyBiscayne. For the next 5 years the Chamber was nomadic, movingto various donated office spaces.

In 2001, the Village of Key Biscayne was in the process of buildinga Village Center and the Village Council offered space for the cham-ber to have a permanent office at 88 W. McIntyre Street, Suite 100.

In 2005 the Chamber made a proactive decision to better rep-resent the business community and its members and the ideaof a Visitors Center was born. In 2006 a Fundraiser for the Visi-tors Center was held and the idea became a reality. The officewas reconfigured, a hurricane door put in place, and there is now24 hour access to over 150 brochures, maps and tourist infor-mation.

At present there are 350 members of the Key Biscayne Cham-ber of Commerce, and we continue to grow and improve ourservices.
