PORT BLAIR, MAR 16/--/ As many as 43 Prin-cipals, Vice Principals and Headmaster (SS)have been moved to different places across theseislands as part of a major reshuffle in the Direc-torate of Education recently. According to re-ports, the Education Department is also likely tonotify the transfer list of PGTs, GTTs and PSTsbefore the commencement of summer vacationsthis year. As per the order issued on the13th of this month, Principal of Govt.Girls Sr. Sec. School here, SmtSangeeta Chand has been posted asDeputy Education Officer of Diglipurwith additional charge of GSSSSubhashgram, while Mr S SureshKumar, Deputy Director of Education(Perl) has been transferred to Zone-Vas Deputy Education Officer,Wimberlygunj with additional chargeof GSSS Wimberlygunj.
Mr Sushen Mallick, Deputy Edu-cation Officer of Rangat will report tothe Directorate of Education at PortBlair, while Mr Shashi Kumar, DeputyEducation Officer, Diglipur has beentransferred as Deputy Education Of-ficer, Mayabunder with additionalcharge of GSSS Pahalgaon. Similarly,Dr R Dev Das, Principal of GSSSManglutan has been transferred toGSSS Teressa, while Assistant Education Of-ficer, Nancowrie and Vice Principal of GSSSChampin, Mr M Nehru has been moved to SSSSita Nagar. Jet Airways to windup operationsfrom Port Blair

PORT BLAIR, MAR 16/--/ In a setback for VeerSavarkar International Airport here, airline com-pany, Jet Airways, which operates daily flight serv-ices connecting different parts of the country withPort Blair, is likely to wind up operations soon. Fac-ing issues over low passenger occupancy and humanresource crunch, the airline has reportedly decided todiscontinue its service in this sector from July thisyear. According to reports, the airline has been suffer-ing from revenue losses for the past many months inthis sector. The corporate management, if sources areto be believed, has transferred or promoted staffposted at Port Blair to Chennai, Delhi and other cit-ies, while some have quit their jobs. “The airline man-agement has found losses for its operations in this sec-tor due to low passenger traffic and increasingnumber of low-cost airline operators. In view of this,the decision has been taken to withdraw servicesfrom the VSI airport here,” said the source. Speakingto EOI, Terminal Manager of Jet Airways, VSI Airporthere, Mr Kamal said that the last flight between PortBlair and Kolkata is scheduled on March 24, whileJune 30 will be last Jet Airways flight taking off fromPort Blair to another city in India. “The corporate of-fice has taken a decision to wind up services here fromJuly 1 owing to revenue losses,” he confirmed.

PORT BLAIR, MAR 16/--/ The two dayNational Seminar on ‘Socio-Legal Rights ofTribals in Andaman & Nicobar Islands: Is-sues and challenges’ got underway in theAndaman Law College on 16 March. TheChief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr.Anindo Majumdar, who is also the Chair-man, Andaman & Nicobar Islands LegalEducation Society, inaugurated the semi-nar as the chief guest. He reiterated theAdministration’s commitment in protect-ing the rights and freedom of the tribal
community in the Islands. Policy was formu-lated under PAT Act for protecting and safe-guarding the socio-economic and culturalinterest of the tribal people in the Islands,he said. About socio-legal rights of thetribal, he also said that more effort is neededto sensitize the tribal about their legalrights. Laws are framed to bring in just andhumane society to which the tribals are part;and we need to work for protecting theirsafety, social and economic interest, he said.
