Isavasya Upanishad
Om! That is full; this is full, (for) from the full the full (indeed) arises.
When the full is taken from the full, what remains is full indeed.
Om! Peace! Peace! Peace!
1.Om. All this should be covered by the Lord, whatsoever moves on the earth. By such a
renunciation protect (thyself). Covet not the wealth of others.
2.By performing arma in this world (as en!oined by the scriptures) should one yearn to
live a hundred years. "hus action does not bind thee, the doer. "here is no other way than this.
3."hose worlds of Asuras (demons) are enshrouded by blinding gloom. "hose who are
the slayers of the #elf go to them after death.
4.$nmoving, %t is one, faster than the mind. "he senses cannot reach %t, for %t proceeds
ahead. &emaining static %t overtaes others that run. On account of %ts presence, 'atarsiva (the
wind) conducts the activities of beings.
5.%t moves %t moves not. %t is far %t is near. %t is within all %t is without all.
6.e who perceives all beings in the #elf alone, and the #elf in all beings, does not
entertain any hatred on account of that perception.
7.*hen a man realises that all beings are but the #elf, what delusion is there, what grief,
to that perceiver of oneness+
8."hat (#elf) is allpervading, radiant, bodiless, soreless, without sinews, pure, untainted
by sin, the allseer, the lord of the mind, transcendent and selfe-istent. "hat (#elf) did allot in
proper order to the eternal ra!apatis nown as samvalsara (year) their duties.
9."hose who worship avidya (arma born of ignorance) go to pitch darness, but to a
greater darness than this go those who are devoted to /idya (nowledge of the 0evatas).
10.0ifferent indeed, they say, is the result (attained) by vidya and different indeed, they
say, is the result (attained) by avidya. "hus have we heard from the wise who had e-plained it to
us.

11.e who nows both vidya and avidya together, transcends mortality through avidya
and reaches immortality through vidya.
12."o pitch darness they go who worship the $nmanifested (rariti). "o a greater
darness than this go those who are devoted to the 'anifested (iranyagarbha).
13.0ifferent indeed, they say, is the result (attained) by the worship of the 'anifested
and different indeed, they say, is the result (attained) by the worship of the $nmanifested. "hus
have we heard from the wise who had e-plained it to us.
14.e who nows both the $nmanifested and the destructible (iranyagarbha) together,
transcends death by the (worship of) the destructible and attains immortality by the (worship of )
the $nmanifested.
15."he face of the "ruth (ie., urusha in the solar orb) is veiled by a bright vessel. 'ayst
thou unveil it, O #un, so as to be perceived by me whose dharma is truth.
16.O nourisher, pilgrim of the solitude, controller, absorber (of all rasas), offspring of
ra!apati, cast away thy rays, gather them up and give up thy radiating brilliance. "hat form of
thine, most graceful, % may behold. e, the urusha (in the solar orb), % am.
17.Let (my) vital air (prana) now attain the immortal Air (allpervading #elf) then let thisbody be reduced to ashes. Om, O mind, remember 3 remember that which has been done, O
mind, remember 3 remember that which has been done.
18.O 4ire, O 0eva, nower of all our actions or all our nowledge, lead us by the good path for
en!oying the fruits of actions. Liberate us from our deceitful sins. *e offer thee ever more our
words of adoration.
Om! That is full; this is full, (for) from the full the full (indeed) arises.
When the full is taken from the full, what remains is full indeed.
