ISAP 2013 INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM FOR AVIATION PHOTOGRAPHY

Welcome! It’s a pleasure to welcome you to this, the 12th Annual…INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM for AVIATION PHOTOGRAPHY!

Our mission is to provide a major international forum for the art and science of aviation photography; to provide a means for the exchange of aviation photography ideas, technique, philosophy, and equipment; and perhaps most importantly, to provide a mechanism for communication, education, and friendship among those who have a professional stake in, interest in, or simple love of aviation photography.

We’re very pleased you could join us. We have a terrific schedule lined up and the slate of speakers and special guests is truly world class. On the following pages you will find a day-by-day, hour-by-hour program covering each of the next three days. We hope you will find many things of interest!

ISAP GEORGE HALL LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDDenny Lombard Denny will receive the International Society for Aviation Photography Lifetime Achieve-ment Award. Denny retired from Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works in January 2011 after a 41-year career with the company. He produced iconic images of most of the company’s aircraft, including the U-2, SR-71, YF-22, and X-35—at least, those are the projects he can talk about. With fellow Lockheed photographer Eric Schul-

zinger, Denny documented development of the F-117 Nighthawk while it was still a top-secret program. He served as one of the pho-tographic team leads for the Lockheed-Boeing-General Dynamics Advanced Tactical Fighter demonstration/validation test program in 1990. He considers this assignment, which included taking air-to-air chase photographs of the YF-22 from the back seat of F-16s and F-15s at Edwards Air Force Base, California, as the highlight of his career.

Guest Speaker: Cmdr. Robert J. Proano (U.S. Navy, retired) After his first operational tour in F-14 Tomcats with VF-111, the Fighting Sundowners, the United States Naval Academy graduate and Naval flight officer was assigned to the Naval Strike Warfare Center, where he served as assistant training department head. He flew numer-ous combat missions over Iraq with VF-102, the Diamondbacks, and was awarded his first Strike/Flight Air Medal. After attending

the Naval War College, Robert was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 11 as the air wing operations officer, participating in 70 days of continu-ous combat operations over Afghanistan and earning multiple medals. Later on staff at the United States Naval Academy and air training officer for the Third Fleet, he retired from active duty in 2007. Today Robert is vice president for operations at Omega Air Refueling Services, Inc., the world’s only commercial air-to-air refueling operation.

NIKON GPACOnce again it’s time for the amazing and always entertaining annual Nikon-sponsored Great Paper Airplane Contest (GPAC)! As ever, prizes will be awarded in direct proportion to the engineering talent manifest in the lift-over-drag figures achieved by these fragile flying machines and their talented builders.
