Indian Standard SPECIFICATION FOR

CAST CRUCIFORM BOLLARDS

0. FOREWORD

0.1 This Indian Standard was adopted by the Indian Standards Institution on 30 March 1970, after the draft finalized by the Shipbuilding Sectional Committee had been approved by the Mechanical Engineering Divisfon Council. 0.2 Bollards are used on board ships for a variety of purposes like mooring or towing of vessels and also with the cargo-handling gear. Cruciform bollards are used with cargo-handling gear for belaying the topping lifts and with the boats, when they are launched for paying out the wire rope runner round the bollard SO as to ensure a better control of boats, while lowering. 0.3 In the preparation of this standard, assistance has been derived from NF J 37-214-1953 ‘Bitte double en croix (cruciform bollards- double type )’ and NF J 37-216-1953 ‘ Bitte sim@e en Croix ( cruciform bollards - single type) , ’ issued by the Association Francaise de Normalisation.

0.4 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, express-

ing the result of a test, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS: 2-1960*. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

1. SCOPE

1.1 This standarc s,pecifies the dimensions and material for single and double type cast cruciform bollards.

2. TYPES 2.1 Cruciform bollards shall be of two types, namely, single type and double type as shown in figures in Tables 1 and 2, respectively.

3. MATERIAL 3.1 &&form bollards shall be made of cast iron or cast steel conforming to IS: 210_1962t or IS: 1030-19621 or IS: 2985-1964$.

*Rules for rounding off numerical values ( revised ). tSpecification for grey iron castings ( rcvisrd ). $3pecification for steel castings for general engineering purposes ( ret&d ) , $Specification for steel castings for ship’s structure.

JS : 5625 - f970

4. DIMENSIONS 4.1 The dimensions of the single type and- double type cruciform bollards shall be as given in Tables 1 and 2 respectively.

5. TOLERANCES

5.1 The tolerance on dimensions of grey cast iron bollards shall conform to IS:5519-1970*.

5.2 The tolerances, on dimensions of cast steel bollards shall conform to IS : 4897- 1968t.

5.3 The tolerances on the dimensions of machined parts, where they have not been specified in this standard, shall be of coarse grade specified in IS :2102-1962:.

5.4 No negative tolerance shall be permitted on the dimensions a, f1 and t2.

6. DESIGNATION

6.1 Cruciform bollards shall be designated by the type, nominal size, material and the number of the standard.

Example:

A cruciform bollard single type of nominal dimensions 125 of cast iron shall be designated as:

Cruciform Bollard Single Type 125 CI IS : 5625-1970.

7. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

7.1 Cruciform bollards shall be reasonably free from casting defects, such as blow holes.

7.2 The surface finish shall be 6.3 to 25 microns assessed according to IS : 3073-1967s.

8. MARKING 8.1 Cruciform bollards may also be marked with the ISI Certification Mark.

NOTE - The use of the ISI Certification Mark is governed by the provisions of the Indian Standards Institution ( Certification Marks ) Act, and the Rules and Regula- tions made thereunder. Presence of this mark on products covered by an Indian Standard conveys the assurance that they have been produced to comply with the requirements of that standard, under a well defined system of inspection, testing and quality control during production. This system, which is devised and supervised by IS1 and operated by the producer, has the further safeguard that the products as actually ‘marketed are continuously checked by ISI for conformity to the standard. Details of conditions, under which a licence for the use of the ISI Certification Mark may be granted to manufacturers or processors, may be obtained from the Indian Standards Institution.

*Deviations for untoleranced dimensions of grey iron castings. TDeviations for untoleranced dimensions and weight of steel castings. fRecommendations for Machining deviations for dimensions without specified

tolerances. $Assessment of surface roughness.
