How is human activity responsible?• An increase in population means an increasing demand for
basic necessities like food, water and shelter.• This increase in population has increased the levels of
consumption of natural resources like energy.• Increasing consumption leads to excessive levels supply and
demand, which have impact on the environment• The effects from this supply and demand can be seen in the
form of pollution from mining and factories. • The YouTube clip below highlights some examples of the
effects of human activity on the environment while providing solutions to minimalise and improve such effects.

How can human activities be bad for the environment?Human activities can have major effects on the environment, some of which can be see through:• Mining • the increasing demand for the mining of coal, gold, copper and
iron ore in Australia • Increased need for accommodation – more environment cleared
for development of housing and accommodation• Decreasing trees and vegetation leading to decrease in wildlife
and increased effects from natural disasters like floods• Increase in pollution from mines

How can human activities be bad for the environment?• Clearance of trees and vegetation• Lower population levels of natural and unique wildlife
• Pollution • Recycling – lack of knowledge or willpower• Increased greenhouse gasses• Increasing climate change• Increase of rubbish in waterways and parklands• Decrease in cleanliness of water and waterways
