    Indian StandardMETHOD OF MEASUREMENT OF

BUILDING AND CIVIL ENGINEERING WORKSPART VI REFRACTORY WORK

    ( Second Revision)

    o. FOREWORD0.1 This Indian Standard ( Part VI ) (Second Revision) was adopted bythe Indian Standards Institution on 8 February 1974, r.flV4 the draft finalizedby the Civil Works Measurement Sectional Committee had been approvedby the Civil Engineering Division Council.

0.2 Measurement occupies a very important place in the planning andexecution ofany civil engineering work from the time of first estimates to thefinal completion and settlement ofpayments for a project, Methods followedfor measurement are not uniform and considerable differences exist amongpractices followed by different construction agencies and also among variousCentral and State Government departments. While it is recognized thatach system of measurement has to be specificaJly related to administrativeand financial oranizations within a department responsible for the work, aunification of various s~tems at technical level has been accepted as verydesirable specially as it pennits a wider range of operation for civil engineer-ing contractors and eliminates ambiguities and misunderstanding of varioussystems followed.

03 Among various civil engineering items, measurement of buildings wasthe tint to be taken up for standardization and this standard having provisiolllralating to building work was first published in 1958 and was revised in·1964.In the course ofusage of this standard by various construction agencies In thecountry, several clarifications and suggestions for modifications were receivedand as a result ofstudy, the technical committee responsible for this standarddecided that its scope besides being applicable to buildings should beexpanded to cover method of measurement of civil engineering works likeindustrial and river valley projects.

O.t Since different trades are not related to one another, the Sectional Com-mittee decided that each trade as given in IS: 1200·1964· shall be issuedseparately as a different part. This will also be helpful to users in using thespecific standard. This part covers method of measurement of refractory work.

·M~thod of measurement of buildinl works (".utJ).
