Irymple Under the Stars at the Arts Centre Congratulations to all involved with four wonderful (two matinees) performances of Irymple Under the Stars at the Mildura Arts Centre. These performances showcased the outstanding talents of students in music, dance and drama. This is indeed a credit to the performing arts program at our school. A feature of all these performances was the large number of people in the audience to support the students. It was very pleasing to have 147 students performing on stage which is a significant percentage of our student body. Well done to Mrs Noeleen Davis and her dedicated support crew of staff and volunteers. Among the many volunteers, we are very grateful to Mrs Anne-Marie Fiorillo and Mrs Karen Barbary, as well as ex-student Rayleigh Morris. Leadership Conference
On Friday 7th November, eleven students from Irymple Secondary
College attended the Grand Hotel for a leadership conference. We had
a great day and learnt so much about being a leader. We played
leadership games and went to different rooms to learn about different
things they do. Being a leader is about being there for people and being
someone people can look up to. It was a wonderful experience to listen
to. Communicating with other people from different schools and talking
about where they want to go as a leader was good to hear. Thank you
Grip Leadership for a wonderful day. The following students attended the Grip Leadership Conference: Meg Ryan,
Brooke Hammond, Emma Ash, Alannah Snart, Mikaela Anderson, Tarlia Couzner, Jake Barker, Thomas Moore, Nathan
Turley, Bryce Thomas and Natasha Watkins.

Loddon Mallee Table-Tennis Championships
Our junior girls Table-tennis team consisting of Kate Bennett, Kendall McLean, Savanna Kalms and Courtney Orwell competed in the Loddon Mallee Table-Tennis Championships which were held in Bendigo on Friday 24th October. The girls were accompanied by parent Donna McLean and travelled down with the Yr 7/8 Boys Basketball team together with other team representatives
Dante Alighieri was a 13th century poet who was born in
Florence, Tuscany. Dante Alighieri is for the Italians, what
William Shakespeare is for the English. Latin was the official
language for any written or scholarly works, however, due to
the success of his masterpiece “The Divine Comedy”, in his
regional dialect, the Tuscan dialect was adopted as the official
language that is still used today all over Italy, and taught in our
schools in Australia.
Students at the award ceremony on Sunday,
Nov 9th, 2014.

Table-Tennis…. cont…. from the region. While the girls only had the 1 game, against Catholic College Bendigo, they came out to play and were convincing winners on the day, winning 5 rubbers to 1, even with Catholic College shifting some of their seedings on the day to try and seek an advantage. Scores for the day were: Singles: Kate Bennett 5 games to 0 - 56 points to 0. Kendall McLean: 4 games to 1 – 52 points to 34 Savanna Kalms: 5 games to 0 – 55 points to 19, and Courtney Orwell: 2 games to 3 – 38 points to 46
Doubles: Kate and Kendall: 4 games to 1 – 52 points to 21, and Savanna and Courtney: 3 games to 2 – 44 points to 40.
As a result of their performance, the girls qualify for the State finals which will be held on Wednesday November 19th at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre at Albert Park in Melbourne. We would like to thank the girls for their behaviour and effort throughout the day and congratulate them for their success and wish them best of luck for the State Finals. We also would like to thank Donna McLean for volunteering her time to accompany the girls to Bendigo and for her guidance to the girls on the day. Attached is a photo of the successful and happy team.
Tarsha Hawley - LMR and State Golf Championships
Year 8 student Tarsha Hawley competed in the LMR Golf Championships which were held at the Rich River Golf and Country Club in Moama last term. Tarsha performed exceptionally well to win the stroke event with a total of 85 off the stick which gave her second place in the handicap event with a nett score of 70. As a result of her performance at Rich River, Tarsha qualified for the State Golf Championships which were played at the Gardiners Run Golf Course in Melbourne on Friday 31st October. While she did not perform as well as she would have liked, she still carded a 94 for the 18 holes which saw her finish 9th in the stroke event. Tarsha’s nett score of 82 saw her finish 12th in the
handicap event.
Tarsha’s talent impressed scouts who were at the championships and she has been invited to play in the Victorian Junior Masters Championships to be held at the Waverley Golf Club in Melbourne from Monday 5th – Wednesday 7th January. We congratulate Tarsha on her performance and this invitation and wish her all the best in the Masters.

Canteen committee We have been meeting regularly with Julia, the School Nurse, two Year 9 students; Emily and Courtney as well as Anne Symes and Kylie Graham- the Canteen Manager. We have been looking at the results from our Canteen Survey as to how to improve our canteen as well as providing healthier choices for our students and staff. Many students completed the survey and provided some good information on what they like about our canteen and some ideas for improvements. If families have any suggestions we would love to hear them if you would like to ring or email the school. Perhaps you have a healthy, quick and easy recipe your family enjoys that we could consider offering on our canteen menu. Margo Impey
