Description

Cannes lies on the Gulf of Napoule, an arm of theMediterranean Sea. The city is noted for its mild, dry climateand its broad, treelined boulevards. The best-knownboulevard is the Promenade de la Croisette, which runsalong the shore and has elegant hotels and casinos. Otherinteresting features of Cannes include the Hotel de Ville (CityHall); the nearby Lerins Islands; and a castle called theChateau des Abbes de Lerins on Mont Chevalier, a hilloverlooking the gulf.

Tourism is Cannes's leading economic activity. Otheractivities include perfume and soap manufacturing,metalworking, and fishing.
