Welcoming Team – Penny Schumacher

The IQC is committed not only to welcoming new members but to incorporating them into the club. We have a wonderful, lively group, but as in any club, it is hard for new members to remember names and faces and learn how they can become active members. New members will have a yellow ribbon attached to their name tags for their first two years. Please make it a point to welcome them, ask them to join in the meetings and activities. The newly formed welcoming committee will assign “Quilting Buddies” to each new member. The Quilting buddies will act as a “Go To” person for each new member and will have blue ribbons attached to their name tags. We will also have orientation meetings throughout the year to help new members learn more about the club. If you are interested in becoming a Quilting Buddy, please call Penny at 490-2046.

Foley Bags – Kathy Russell

I would like to thank all the ladies that made foley bags for the Canandaigua Veterans Hospital. They were amazed at how many they

had received, but the quality of the work also. The veterans will look so much better with something covering thei r bags. They would like me to express their appreciation for the 82 bags that were delivered. I will tell you I was amazed at the number that were completed in such a short time. The stars were Laura Wagner and Barb Gerardi who made over half of bags completed.

The Best Tips for Sewing Batiks 1 Don't bother to Best Press or starch these...our batiks press great 2 Consider NOT using an iron when piecing. Batiks have a great crease-ability. 3 The best needle for good batiks....Microtex 70 or 75 (best penetration and sharpest stitch)

4 Don't over-think the contrast or the color...some muddy combos work best for blending Batiks are your best fabrics to put in unlikely color combos...put them together and step away and look at it AFTER you

have sewn them together
