The doors in Iran have two knockers, one for women and the other for men. The knockers have different designs and make different sounds when knocked, alerting whoever is inside the gender of the person at the door. That way, if a woman is home alone she knows not to open the door for men.

Such door knockers are found all over the country and most especially in the very conservative heartland city of Yazd. If is a man at the door the women knew they had to veil before opening the door and if the man of the house was not home, not open it at all.

The house is constructed by order of Haj Mehdi Koozekonani (which was named Abolmele, the father of the nation at the time), on 1868. He was a merchant in the Bazaar of Tabriz. Haj Mehdi joined the revolution and became one of the major financiers of the revolution.
