IR Transmitter and Receiver

Introduction:-

19/03/2010

Most of the IR remotes work reliably within a range of 5 meters. The circuit which we designing uses IR transmitter for reliable operation over a longer range. To double the range from 5 meters to 10 meters you need to increase the transmitted power.

For increasing the circuit efficiency, a MOSFET has been used which acts as a switch and thus reduces the power loss that would result if a transistor is used for switching

Problem Definition :-

19/03/2010

To Prepare a transceiver which is based upon the infrared transmission using IR led’s. The range of the transceiver circuit varies with number of IR led’s used.

Limitations :-

19/03/2010

1. Since the circuit uses modulated infrared beam for control function therefore light reflections will not affect the circuit operation. However tube lights and CFL lamps may cause malfunctioning of the circuit.

2. The motion of the DC motor is unidirectional that has to be modified.

Problems Which I faced….

19/03/2010

Unable to rotate the DC motor in both the direction.

Failed to use the 555 timer IC for triggering the IR LED’s.

Tried applying the polarity concept for bidirectional rotation but by doing this the circuit will become costlier.

Conclusion:-

19/03/2010

The use of IC 4047 family has been finalized for triggering the IR Led’s. I will be using TSOP1738 instead of SFH505A for Receiving the IR rays.
