Story
Integrated generic and safety control
The MELSEC iQ-R Series is equipped with a safety CPU that is
compliant with international safety standards, ISO 13849-1 PL e
and IEC 61508 SIL 3. The safety CPU can be installed directly
on the MELSEC iQ-R Series base rack and can execute both
safety and non-safety programs, enabling easy integration into
existing or new control systems.
Consolidated network topology
The safety CPU enables control of safety and non-safety
communications across the same CC-Link IE Field network
line. Wiring and space can be reduced as having multiple
network cables are no longer required resulting in lower
integration costs.

Programming using GX Works3
The safety CPU can be programmed using GX Works3 enabling
machine makers to realize lower cost safety solutions as only one
programming software is required for the MELSEC iQ-R Series,
while utilizing its intuitive user interface and maintenance
features.

Safety CPU can be installed directly on the
MELSEC iQ-R base rack realizing easy integration into
an existing or new control system. Also, compact remote
I/Os are available ideal for systems with limited space.
Establishing a safety communication is as easy as configuring a CC-Link IE Field network, which has the long-standing
reputation as a versatile gigabit network. The physical layer and data communications is based on Ethernet technology
and enables commercial cables, adapters, and hubs to be used*1. The safety communication also takes advantage of
highly flexible features offered by CC-Link IE Field network.

Integrated safety control offering a
total system solutionThe safety CPU module enables control of both generic and safety programs in the same
module and is easily programmed utilizing the intuitive features of GX Works3. Compliant
with internationally recognized safety standards, the safety CPU enables safety devices
such as safety light curtains, emergency switches, and door switches to be connected via
the CC-Link IE Field network without requiring a separate dedicated network line. The safety
CPU is easily programmed using GX Works3, and utilizes its intuitive features.

One Software, Many Possibilities
In GX Works3, operation and safety programs are included in the same project folder, eliminating the need to manage
multiple project folders. Various useful features of GX Works3 are also available for safety programs similar to other

Integrated safety control enabling coordination with driving products
The safety CPU can be installed directly on the MELSEC iQ-R Series base rack, and is easily integrated into an existing or new
control system. Safety devices are connectable using the CC-Link IE Field Network with safety communication integrated into the
network protocol over a widely available industrial Ethernet topology. The safety CPU is compliant with ISO 13849-1 PL e and
IEC 61508 SIL 3 and is certified by TÜV Rheinland®. The MELSERVO-J4 Series servo amplifiers can be controlled through their
connectivity with the MELSEC iQ-R Series via CC-Link IE Field Network. When the safety CPU*1 is used with the simple motion
module (RD77GF), the MELSERVO-J4 Series servo amplifier can receive safety signal data from the safety CPU via CC-Link IE
Field Network. Additional wiring between the safety remote I/O and MR-D30 functional safety unit is unnecessary.
*1. Inter-modular synchronization function is not available with the safety CPU (R□SFCPU-SET).
MELSERVO-J4 Series servo amplifiers and motors
Combined with the MR-D30, the MELSERVO-J4 Series servo amplifiers and motors can perform safety operation compliant with
“Category 4/PL e” and “SIL 3”
• When the MR-J4-GF-RJ is used with the MR-D30, safety observation functions (STO, SS1, SS2, SOS, SLS, SBC, SSM) are
supported with easy setting of parameters*2
• Turning off the servo amplifier control circuit power supply is unnecessary, enabling shorter restart time and eliminating home
position return
• A magnetic contactor for preventing unexpected motor start is not required*3
*2. Use the MR-D30 with software version “A1” or later.
*3. Two magnetic contactors are not required when STO function is used, even though one magnetic contactor is used for preventing servo alarms and electrical shock in this diagram.

project folders. Various useful features of GX Works3 are also available for safety programs similar to other general programs.
Faster response times and handling of larger programs
Utilizing the high-performance capabilities of the MELSEC iQ-R Series and CC-Link IE Field Network, productivity is enhanced
as response times are even faster. Additionally, safety control program capacity has been increased by up to three times, to 40K
steps, enabling the control of more complex programs.

Automotive assembly line
Ensures safety on a large-scale production line and distributed system such as an automotive assembly line with multiple welding
robots operating. In systems with multiple stations and safety controllers, critical safety data is shared over the network which allows an
emergency stop in one station to safely stop the stations before and after within the production line. The safety CPU is connected using
the CC-Link IE Field Network with safety communication integrated into the network protocol. Also, the simple motion module supports
safety communication with the AC servo via CC-Link IE Field Network. General and safety devices, and drives can be connected
together with one CC-Link IE Field Network (up to 120 devices in total), realizing reduced wiring and highly scalable system lowering
overall cost.
