1 General

Thank you for purchasing IPS-ENERGY™ Asset Performance Management Software.

This user documentation should introduce you with all necessary information to get best use out of this application.

IPS-ENERGY™ is programmed in a dynamic way which means that more (or less) features are available to you depending on configuration and licensing.

1.1 How to read the documentation

Texts written in italics indicate Names in the software (Windows, Fields, Tables, Columns, etc.).

Texts written in bold indicate Function in the software (Buttons, Menu Options, Tabs, anything you can click on).

Instructions to follow are indicated with numbers:

2 Power System Fault Management™

2.1 Introduction

Power System Fault Management™ (PSFM™) allows you to administrate fault records and events related or non-related to protection relays. You can attach fault records, events, COMTRADE files to relay assets that are managed in IPS-ENERGY™ database.

The following modules are available in PSFM™:

Fault View

Protection View

Event and Transient Management

2.2 Fault View

Use SERVICE Option fault view for recording power system faults and to assign protection operations to specific power system faults.

2.2.1 Create new Fault Record

Choose New in the context menu of Fault Records window.

Fill in all required data in the Fault Record window.

2.2.2 Edit Fault Record

In Fault Records window select a Fault Record.

Choose Edit in the context menu of Fault Records window.

Edit the required data in tab General and tab Fault Data, than Update and Close the Fault

Record.

Attachments

If a Fault Record contains attachments you see the paper clip symbol in the Fault Records window. To see in detail what is attached, select the Fault Record and choose Attachments in the context menu. There you also have the opportunity to Export the attachments.

2.2.3 Reports

To generate a report right-click in the Fault Records window, choose Reports and select one of the entries shown.

Fault Record list: A very detailed overview of all Fault Records displayed in Fault Records

window is generated.

Fault Records: A general overview of all Fault Records displayed in Fault Records window is

generated.

Fault Record: A detail Fault Record of the selected Fault Record is generated.

2.3 Protection View

Use this option for recording all protection operations (trips) and to assign one COMTRADE disturbance file to the relay.

In the Asset window only protection devices are shown due to a fixed filter option, which can’t be changed.

2.3.1 Reports

2.3.2 Create new Protection Operation

Choose New in the context menu of Protection Operations window.

Fill in all required data in both tab General and Memo.

You can assign the Protection Operation to a Fault Record by clicking Assign and choose a

Fault Record.

Choose a Source Information.

Add and Close the Protection Operation.



2.3.3 Reports

2.3.4 Import Event and Transient Files

Choose Import in the context menu of Event and Transient Records window.

In the Import Event and Transient Files window browse the file to be imported and click OK.

2.3.5 Protection Operation

The protection operation database field is extended by textual memo field with unlimited (2 GB) characters. The protection operation dialog is extended by new page named Memo which was added just after the existing General page as shown below.

The memo field could contain textual information only. The memo page contains no other controls then the memo field as shown below.

After the user presses the Add button the object is added to database and the dialog goes to Edit Mode and the user is continuing editing the just added object.

2.4 COMTRADE Management

Context Menu COMTRADE Management:

Import COMTRADE file

Delete

View COMTRADE file with present COMTRADE viewer (not part of IPS-SYSTEM™)

Reports



2.4.1 Import

Import from COMTRADE disturbance files. Disturbances are here not assigned to any protection device.

Choose Import in the context menu of Unassigned Event and Transient Records window.

In the Import Event and Transient Files window browse the file to be imported and click OK.



2.4.2 Reports

2.4.3 Filters

Within COMTRADE Management Service Options following filters are standard available:

2.4.4 Import Files

Implemented possibility for importing another files like event files beside of COMTRADE files. This functionality can be used for importing of any file information beside of the COMTRADE files.
