T he Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Shri J. P. Nadda had launched “Kayakalp”-an initiative for awards to public health facilities and released the Swachchta Guidelines for Public Health Facilities. e “Kayakalp” initiative is to encourage every public health facility in the country to work towards standards of excellence to help the facilities stay clean and hygienic. On 16th March 2016, the Ministry of Health had organised Felicitation of Kayakalp Awardees at NDMC Convention Centre, New Delhi where JIPMER was given SPECIAL AWARD based on the performance of the facility on these parameters- sanitation and hygiene, infection control, hospital upkeep, waste management, community participation assessment. Dr. Vikram Kate, Professor of Surgery was awarded the Silver Jubilee MASICON Oration by the Association of Surgeons of India, Nagpur Branch in the Annual CME of the held on 3rd April 2016. He spoke on “Translational Gastrointestinal Research –Bench to

Bedside and beyond: A journey of two decades”.

Dr. Sunil K Narayan was awarded FEAN (Fellowship in European academy of Neurology)in the year 2016 (First fellow to be elected from

India).

Dr Suresh Gandhi, Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics won the prestigious ‘Prof Tom Xavier Gold Medal for Hand ‘ for his presentation entitled ‘Crush injuries of the hand and forearm – Evaluation and management’ at the Annual Conference of the Tamil Nadu Orthopaedic Association held at Ooty on 12th -14th Feb 2016.

Educational and Research Institute, Chennai.

Mr Srinvasa Rao Katiboina, Ph.D Scholar, Pharmacology has been awarded the best oral presentation award (First Prize) for his presentation entitled “Association of Functional Polymorphisms of DNA Repair Genes with Hematological and Gastrointestinal Toxicities of Platinum Based Chemotherapy in Cancer

Patients” at DDCT-2016 at Pondicherry University.9. Miss Varna Mathew and Miss Niveditha Kundu,
