although he didn’t make it under the 17 hour time limit.

Norton Davey of Oceanside, California,completed Saturday’s Isuzu Ironman Florida

Triathlon with an unofficial time of 18hours, 20 minutes. The event consists of a3.9-kilometer swim, 180 kms cycle and 42.2

Java Landslides kill 52

Incessant rain has hampered rescue efforts. At least 52people have been killed by landslides in Indonesia after daysof heavy rain buried 14 villages under mud in the centralprovince of Java.

This is the second series of landslides in a week to hit the

province. Local officials say dozens of villages have been affected.

Ten people are still missing, as the deluge continues.

President Abdurrahman Wahid has visited the worst-hitdistrict Bagelan. Food and money are being distributed to

those who have lost their homes. The latest landslides hit the hilly district of Purworejo , about

400km(250 miles) south-east of Jakarta, early on Sunday.Most of the villagers were asleep when their h omes wereengulfed.

The Kompas newspaper said the landslides hit the hillydistrict of Purworejo in the early hours of Sunday after threedays of heavy rain.

Most residents were sleeping when the mud buried sevenvillages in the area, 400 km (240 miles) southeast of Jakarta,

the daily said. It said the death toll was likely to climb asrescures continued to comb the area searching for bodies.
