Here are the results of the advisory poll taken to determine the club's preference as to where to hold the Christmas Banquet. As is usual with this group, we received some interesting answers. Not very many answer, but hey.

"Should be held in Olympia every year" -- 2

"Should alternate between Portland and Seattle, starting in Portland in 1989" -- 7. One said "with no rain".

"Should alternate between Portland and Seattle, starting in Seattle in 1989" -- 5

"Should alternate between Portland and BOISE, starting in Portland in 1989" -- 1. Guess who sent that one in.

BRING YOUR MORGAN TO THE PARTY

June 3rd picnic at Ste Michelle Vier' You all received the special flyer from Bob Eauge to anounce the picnic for Bob C. (Robert Couch of Morgan Spares) at Ste Mohelle Winnery. Well I Bob N. and lovely wife Loretta arrived, at the gro=ds at 10:3 0 for the noon picnic so we could hold a area. Would have been there by 10:00 AM but Loretta chose this Sat. AM to read lables in the grocery stare. Any way we did. the 45 mm. drive down in our amazingly wonderfully rurning +4 in record time. Bob C. was the next one there and as we talked in caie Dennis & Jacque cough eough sput red Morgan semi polished Alt. Bennett tapei on and his new We'bbers s -ticking out, still in the process of -turining up. And then a stea.y run Morgans arrived, till we did a count of 16 inc. Kay Jones Trike (for sale?). Temp. was 80 + but we found shade where we could view our line up and be con-fortable as we had lunch and visit ana everyone got acquinted with Bob C. About 3 PM Bob Couch ventured to say he was hungry, as most cars had departed and we didn't realize that Bob C hadn't thought to bring lunch and we didn't let him kr.ow to or notice he was without, At least Dennis had some bears so we uoriched his thirst ana when it was found. Couch bad not ate. Jewet±s & Wisekinds came up with a handsonplate of food & some pop, so Bob C was fed.. is we left Bob C followed us up to Sedro Woley as he is interested in re loating out West. Loretta & I left Bob C just 'ast of Serdo Woolley az he was heading up to Rook—port and over to Darrington, Tar Heal Country (Jacque old hangout). As far as I know Bob C. could still be out back in them there hills somewhere, but m sure he found his way back to Boise Idaho & Bob Adair by Sun. nite. It was a great picnic and Ste Michelle Winnery was the place to have it. Bob N & Loretta, owners of the most dependable Morgans ever.

LIFE IS TOUGH

Sund.ay at 5:30 PM I'm ready to leave the office I work in on C&o lel. I drove our +4 to work today and it is setting in the hot sun as I get into it and start my 15 mile drive acronn the Isl. to home. I now am crising at 2500 RPM down the tree lined shaded road on the West side, almost home (seen 3 care so far & 7 bicyclist) .. I'm tuaing up the curvy road to our hOuSe and am now sitting out on the deck with Loretta sipping a cold beer. I'm reminded of our youngest granddaughters favorite saying Life s Tough. Bob Nelson

The Morgan Club Bob Nelson P.O. Box 353 Stanwood, WA 98292

Dear Bob:

I thought I would write a brief note to thank all involved with the reincarnation of my 1 56 Morgan Plus Four last weekend. As you know, the trip to Vancouver for the All British Field Meet was absolutely marvelous. As a family, we could not have had a better time. Life must be tough traveling in an open-air Morgan followed by the "parts car" with wife and second youngster merrily enjoying the tour.

As you may recall, all was quite well until firing up "Ella Morganski", the affectionate name given our Mog. In the 100-yard distance to the VanDusen gates, she unexpectedly began running on three cylinders. By the time I crested the top of the exit hill, we were down to two cylinders, and I astutely surmised that something bad had occurred. Obligingly (and without much warning) Morgan confirmed that observation and promptly quit, -coasting to a halt along one of the VanDusen side streets. The support crew, Judy and Meredith, ran down to the corner and by the time I had opened the bonnet to survey the damage, Heinz Stromquist and Bob Hauge pulled up alongside. Now we were a contingent of three Morgans, one with the bonnet up and leaking precious bodily fluids all over the asphalt. The source of her hemorrhage turned out to be a broken thermostat housing, not just a simple hose leak, but a broken, corroded through and through thermostate housing. The fan blew the ensuing stream back over the distributor and spark plugs causing the eminent spark failure. So there I was in a luxurious portion of South Vancouver with a very seriously broken Morgan.

To the rescue came Bob Hauge's announcement at the "Awards" meeting at Mike Powley's affair. Serious head scratching ensued with offers by several for me to drive their machines into,Seattle, or Lloyd's generous offer to cannibalize his thermostat housing right then and there on Powley's front lawn. Finally, Stuart scratched his head and remembered meeting a gent by the name of Martin Zazvorka, who had filled out his Morgan Club membership papers that very day. Martin was seen crawling out from beneath my very own 1 56 Morgan (pre-breakdown). Naturally, I inquired as to what he was hunting for and he related that he had a Morgan in multiple pieces and was trying to figure how where one piece connected to another and how large or small to remake several of the wooden ash pieces. At any rate, I directed him to the membership chairman after our brief conversation and he joined the club.

-2-

A call to Martin, on Stu's recommendation, sent Martin scurrying through various boxes of Morgan parts (remember he had no engine, but thought he remembered a bunch of "plumbing parts" stashed away.) Lo and behold, he discovered a thermostat housing which fit the description of my broken piece. After several seconds of very cheerful negotiation, he allowed as he probably wouldn't be needing the part for twelve to eighteen months, and therefore, consented to my borrowing same to resurrect "Ella Morganski". The time now was approximately 10:30 p.m. as I set off to Barnebey.

Back to Powley's by 11:30 where Rosemary rifled around in a closet to find a flashlight. Weak batteries were then replaced and I was off to VanDusen Gardens with Martin's thermostat, a tube of Permatex gasket maker, Powley's flashlight, and a bucket of water.

Now I know all of you recall that it was absolutely beautiful weather all weekend. However, upon arriving at the Morgan, I found an isolated thunderstorm was dumping gallons of water upon the Morgan. Unable to find the valves to turn off this luxurious home's lawn sprinkler, I was forced to push the Morgan back to VanDusen Garden's parking lot where the weather was considerably drier and a brilliant parking lot light shone overhead. Parking the parts car ninety degrees from the open bonnet provided ample light to perform the surgery necessary to replace and repair the ailing Morgan.

By 1:00 am, the job was done. A quick trip around the block seemed to show everything in order. I buttoned the Morgan up and returned to the motel for a much needed rest, smelling of gasoline, antifreeze, and Permatex to my wife's disdain.

The trip home was absolutely magnificent, until at the Peach Arch, the Morgan decided to run on three cylinders, then two, and finally stopped -- one of the Permatex gaskets having failed. In Blayne the appropriate Silicone gasket maker was applied and no further problems ensued. In fact, we had a marvelous trip to Simi Ah Moo, down Chuckanut Drive and into La Conner, all further trouble free and magnificent.

As mentioned to my family as we departed Saturday morning for the initial ride to Vancouver, "Going in the Morgan is always going to be an adventure." Certainly, we had all the adventure one could ask for on this trip. Our sincere thanks to all who helped and/or lent moral support during this escapade.

So there, Bob, is our story. I hope it tickles the fancy and stirs the enthusiasm of the rest of our club members.

Yours very truly, I remain,

R. Lee Harman, M.D., F.A.C.S.
