The Isle of Wight Festival is an annual event for 55,000 festival goers. Since it’s revival in 2002, thefestival has played host to The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and The Foo Fighters.

Eco Charge are the long-standing Eco-Interactive events partner of the legendary Isle of Wight Festival. This partnership is negotiated and managed by Eco Action Partnership, the festivals Eco consultancyagency.agency.

Our ChallengeCreate a memorable and engaging experience that involves people in positive sustainable behavioursand attracts people to the Hive area of the festival. The Hive promotes environmental and charitable organisations.

Each year Eco Charge aims to create advocates for sustainable innovation by involving people in positive activities that are playful and fun.

Eco Charge was tasked with creating a ‘people powered party’ with a huge ‘WOW factor.’ With a festivalEco Charge was tasked with creating a ‘people powered party’ with a huge ‘WOW factor.’ With a festivalfull of gadget loaded revellers and the pitiful battery life of modern devices, Eco Charge produced the EcoRecharge Zone with a capacity to recharge thousands of mobile phones and cameras all powered byhuman & bio energy – Keeping people Green, Safe and Connected!

Eco Charge InsightFestival-goers want more than just the music stages at a festival, revellers want more bang for theirbuck and what better way to create a real sense of belonging than by creating interactive, shared andparticipatory experiences.

What we didWe created an experience that enabled festival goers to generate their own energy on kinetic bicyclegenerators, enabling them to re-charge their mobile phones and cameras for FREE!

The event we created was a relevant, engaging experience that invited festival goers to share their energy to power the party. To create a visually memorable experience the recharge zone was designedaround a 7m geodesic dome including oversized games, 10 x bicycle generators and a weekend schedulepacked with music, renewable energy and a whole bunch of banter!packed with music, renewable energy and a whole bunch of banter!

So what went on..?Over 3925 festival goers attended the people powered party and 2040 of those got involved by jumpingon a kinetic bike generator to share their energy!

The Eco recharge zone was buzzing with green talk and antics - resulting in people visiting the Hive arenaoften several times a day for the duration of the festival. The Chill ‘n’ Charge tent has now been dubbed Europe’s largest ‘People Powered Party.’
