A few months back I was checking the calendar for the dates of our next show and realised that the Wednesday after daisy Iwould have been here a year! Its rather unbelievable how timedoes fly. The first I saw of IHDC was their summer show BugsyMalone which instantly inspired me to ask myself would I becapable of standing on that stage in those bright lights?
There was only one way to find out, so I joined and immediatelyI was welcomed into a group of so many different and talentedpeople. The pantomime was coming up fast so if wanted a partand be under those lights I had to decide fast on what part Ishould audition for. After a rather nervy audition I was given apart! And so began the road to Pantomime. My character Merlinof the magic mirror after much discussion would appear on aflat projected beside the stage. A rather cool concept but in myexperience being on camera is a lot more nerve racking than onstage. There was no greater feeling than appearing on that stagewith a packed out audience as my character escapes from themirror. Everybody involved in the panto worked ever so hardand every character was cast so perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyedperforming and I know it was a rather stressful affair for thegreat directors who in the end put on a fun and entertainingshow.
With only spending a brief amount of time on stage and the pantonow over I was left with a feeling of hunger for more time spent under those lights . Yet againI auditioned for the next show Daisy pulls it off. I was a given a main part with a daunting
amount of lines and this would be a real test to see if I could really do this. After months of driving the household mad of constantly reading the same lines over and over I felt as though Iwas ready. With a great cast who all wanted to entertain we managed as a team to put on twogreat shows with a great effort from the backstage crew who also put the set together last
minute. Everything came together great in the end, eventhough we only ran through the show once in rehearsal. Itshows when you have a good bunch of performers and anawesome director anything can be achieved.
Compared to many people at this drama club a yeardoesnt seem like a long time but it has been a wonderfulroller coaster for me and I have forged some greatfriendships. I feel as though I am part of what seems likea close group if not a family who share an importantcommon bond.
My ambition one day is for me to pay the bills doing thissort of thing but until that time Im content being where Iam now. With our next Pantomime starting productionvery soon and Shakespeare on the horizon, its a very
exciting time to be apart of I.H.D.C Why dont you try IHDC too?
Panto Auditions are this September

summary of thepantomime.
Keep an eye onwww.ihdc.co.uk for dates
and further information
For a lively, colourful and fun-filled production, look nofurther than this ground-breaking pantomime version of
Robinson Crusoe!Buckle your swash and set sail with Robinson, CaptainSeasalt and Nutty Nick into a world of adventure and
hilarity. Youll meet a host of colourful characters alongthe way, together with a band of marauding pirates greatroles for the Chorus and three principals, Cut-Throat, Cross
-Bones and Skull-Duggery.
Staging the opening scene in Brazil (as opposed to Hull,York or Plymouth, as is usually the case) has the advantageof introducing vibrant scenery, costumes and music , not tomention the delicious Dame Seorita Margarita Juicilita! It also enables an exciting and colourful Mardi Gras Finale!
Don't be put off by the weakness and old-fashioned natureof other versions this is a great choice of pantomime with
everything going for it!
10 main principal characters plus 4 smaller rolesPlenty of opportunities for involvement of
Chorus and Dancers
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Alan Frayn has written numerous professional pantomimesand family shows, including all productions at Alton Towersover a 6-year period. With over 27,500 professional andcountless amateur performances of Alan's scripts, his showshave delighted audiences as far afield as Beirut and HongKong.
In recent years, he has written many scripts for one of thelargest scale pantomimes in the UK. Staged at a major 2,500
seat concert venue, this sells out to an audience of approxi-mately 70,000 annually. Like so many other pantomime pro-ducers, they were struggling to find scripts that were tradi-tional and yet recently written with stacks of up to date com-edy.
This new series of 15 ground-breaking scripts enable his pan-tomimes to be staged in all sorts of venues, from village hallsto theatres with full flying facilities, without compromisingthe quality and content of the original offerings.
Alan's experience and originality have now breathed new lifeinto all the traditional pantomime favourites, together withseveral original themes, enabling you to produce pantomimeat its best!
