THE LITURGY of the WORD
First Reading – Exodus 17:8-13
In those days, Amalek came and waged war against Israel. Moses, therefore, said to Joshua, "Pick out
certain men, and tomorrow go out and engage Amalek in battle. I will be standing on top of the hill with
the staff of God in my hand." So Joshua did as Moses told him: he engaged Amalek in battle after Moses
had climbed to the top of the hill with Aaron and Hur. As long as Moses kept his hands raised up, Israel
had the better of the fight, but when he let his hands rest, Amalek had the better of the fight. Moses'
hands, however, grew tired; so they put a rock in place for him to sit on. Meanwhile Aaron and Hur
supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other, so that his hands remained steady till sunset.
And Joshua mowed down Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
Lector The word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm—Psalm 121:1-8
Children’s Liturgy of the Word—Teach Me Your Ways O Lord, Stevens/Henderson (9:00)
Second Reading – 2 Timothy 3:14 – 4:2
Beloved: Remain faithful to what you have learned and believed, because you know from whom you
learned it, and that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are capable of giving you
wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for
teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God
may be competent, equipped for every good work.
I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and by
his appearing and his kingly power: proclaim the word; be persistent whether it is convenient or
inconvenient; convince, reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching.
Lector The word of the Lord.
People Thanks be to God.
Gospel—Luke 18:1-8 Deacon The Lord be with you. People And with your spirit. Deacon A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke. People Glory to you, O Lord.
Jesus told his disciples a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming
weary. He said, "There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor respected any human
being. And a widow in that town used to come to him and say, 'Render a just decision for me against my
adversary.' For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought, 'While it is true that I
neither fear God nor respect any human being, because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a
just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.'" The Lord said, "Pay attention to what the
dishonest judge says. Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and
night? Will he be slow to answer them? I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them
speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"
Deacon The Gospel of the Lord.
People Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

FIRST SUNDAY OF PUBLIC APPEAL This Sunday Fr. Larry and Fr. Hai will be informing the congregation at all Masses about the Encountering Christ campaign and sharing the Bishop’s vision for a vibrant and secure future for the diocese before asking families to share how they intend to participate in the campaign. Please consider how you can help.
ENCOUNTERING CHRIST
WEEKLY FOCUS Each Week St. Theresa parish highlights one portion of the Diocesan Capital Campaign Campus Ministry - $7 Million
Our diocese boasts one of the largest populations of Catholic college students in the country, who are served by campus ministry and missions across 14 colleges and universities. Many of our campus ministry offices require building upgrades, expansion or improved signage and visibility. Funds from Encountering Christ will support capital investments so campuses have spacious and visible facilities to welcome and minister to students.

NEW YOUTH ROOM NEEDS A FEW ITEMS Would you like to offer support to our youth ministry by donating some needed items? The new youth room in Elmer Hall could use two large sofas, a large comfy chair, some board games and some video game systems like Xbox, Wii or Sony PlayStation. VOCATIONS AWARENESS WEEK NOVEMBER 3-9 Did you know that nearly one in five parishes in the U.S. is without a resident pastor? Did you know that as a parent, your attitude toward your child’s vocation has a huge impact? Many priests and sisters say: “Growing up our family prayed together… We served others as a family… My parents often had clergy and religious over for dinner,” according to VianneyVocations.com. If your son or daughter should express an interest in becoming a priest, sister, or brother, they’ll be watching closely for your reaction.

CHRISTIAN SOCIAL AWARENESS
29th Sunday in Ordinary Time October 20, 2019
LIVING THE GOSPEL
29th Sunday in Ordinary Time
In today’s readings we are encouraged to persevere in prayer – not because God needs our prayer, but because we do! In prayer we recognize our dependence upon God and that God brings us into relationship with each other. Prayer draws us out of ourselves and helps us to be mindful of the needs of others. For whom do you need to pray today? Who is the brother or sister of the Lord whose needs are hidden from you? On this Mission Sunday, we can pray especially for the Church’s missionary work, especially among the poor and forgotten.
