United Nations General Assembly Simulation: Opening Speech: Argentina

Muy buenas tardes a todos y a todas; Good Afternoon Madam Chair(s), His Excellency Mr. Pekka

Metso, Mr Secretary General, Honourable Members of this distiguished meeting of the UN.

Current state of affairs is alarmanting in the international community. Argentina believes the world

must stand together in order to achieve international peace and security, stability and prosperity for

all. We call upon all member states to cooperate among each other regarding international issues

and to resolve disputes by peaceful means. Before we chooese the language of weapons, we must

choose the language of peace.

Moving to fur trade, it is important for cultural, economic and conservation reasons. People and

states depend on fur trade as an important part of their economy and heritage. Its ban would cause

many problems in the world economy and had a huge impact on peoples’s lives. From our perspec-

tive global ban of fur trade is not needed. As it also represents an example of international agree-

ments on welfare standards which we strognly support.

Regarding minorities it is our duty to protect them. As a great defenders of human rights, the rights

of minorities are one of our priorities as we believe we should all recognize each other as equals.

We agree that there should be a global legally binding document on minority protection which will

be precise regarding the objects of protection, since the protection of minorities is highly relevant

for the international peace and security. Not regulated issues on minorities can be dangerous for the

whole international community as it is seen in the current Crimea situation.

As for environmental and developmental concerns, Argentina believes that the proper addressing of

them is very important for today’s world, since the global protection of environment is urgently

needed. The deterioration of environment requires urgent concrete actions and effective commit-

ments of both governments and civil society. In awareness of this necessity, Argentina actively par-

ticipates in actions of preservation and protection of environment and sustainable development. We

therefore support the iniciative for a common global environmental regime obligatory for all.

Regarding all three Agenda topics, we are ready to cooperate and listen to every single country and

we are looking forward to fruitful debates and common acceptable solutions which will hopefully

make world a better place. We must work for a common interest of us all.

Thank you very much and may God keep you all.
