HIMPUNAN MAHASISWA TEKNIK GEOFISIKA ITSSOCIETY OF EXPLORATION GEOPHYSICISTS ITS-SC

Geoscience Atmosphere 2017 or commonly called Geosphere 2017 is an international event that is presented by the Department of Geophysical Engineering Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya (ITS), Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Geofisika ITS and Society of Exploration Geophysicist ITS SC. Each year, Geosphere’s theme revolves around geoscience and energy. The theme of Geosphere 2017 is “Advancing Geoscience, Conquering the Future”. The event consists of several sub events. Geosphere 2017 aims to build relations between earth science students and experts overseas, to discover and explore more about the development of earth science, to build a conductive relation between university students with energy and geoscience company, and also as a platform for student, lecturers, and experts to present their ideas and innovation regarding present-day energy issues and the development of geoscience in the future.Geosphere 2017 will be held in October 6th-8th 2017 at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Surabaya with several sub-events: Olimpiade Kebumian, Paper Competition, Survey Design Competition, Indonesia Geoscience Exhibition, ITS International Geoscience Convention 2017, and Gala Dinner.

ABOUT US1. Geophysical Engineering Department ITSGeophysical Engineering Dept. ITS was established in 2012, based on SK Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Nomor 234/E/O/2012 under the patronage of Fakultas Teknik Sipil & Perencanaan (FTSP). The vision of Geophysical Engineering Dept. ITS is to become an innovative major that has an international reputation in science, technology, and art. Currently, the headmaster of Geophysical Engineering Dept. ITS is Mr. Dr. Widya Utama, DEA who is also an advisor of three international student chapters, namely Society of Exploration Geophysicists ITS SC (SPE ITS SC), Society of Petroleum Engineers ITS SC (SPE ITS SC), and Association of Petroleum Geologist ITS SC (AAPG ITS SC).

2. Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Geofisika ITS:Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Geofisika ITS, known as HMTG ITS, is a student association which aims to accomodate and to facilitate all students of the department of Geophysical Engineering ITS. The vision of HMTG is to become an organization that upholds integrity and professionalism.

3. Society of Exploration Geophysicists ITS SCSociety of Exploration Geophysicists ITS SC or known as SEG ITS SC is an international geophysics and geophysical engineering student organization supporting 27.000 members from 128 countries. SEG ITS SC was founded in 2006. Currently, SEG ITS SC membership is open for all majors in ITS and 27 officers. SEG ITS SC is supervised by Mr. Dr. Widya Utama, DEA. In 2015, SEG ITS SC achieved a Summit Level, which is the highest level in SEG Student Chapter category.

ITS International Geoscience Convention 2017is one of several event in GEOSPHERE 2017 that have two main event, such as plenary session and techni-cal session. In plenary session, theproffesionals will give presentations and sit together to talk about the given topic. In Technical Session, there areoral presen-tation from the paper making participants who have been selected, and poster exhibition where the post-ers from applicants will be hanged while the maker will elaborate the content orally beside their poster. ITS International Geoscience Conven-tion 2017 is a joint event between Geophysi-cal Engineering Dept. ITS, Geomatics Engineer-ing Dept. ITS, Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Geofisika ITS & Society of Exploration Geophysicists ITS SC.

Department of Geomatics Engineering is one of many departments in Institut Teknolo-gi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya that deals with educa,on and reasearch in Geospatial Science. The Department was estalished in 1998 and first-ly named the Depart- ment of Geodetic Engineer-ing. In 1999, the first batch of undegraduate de-gree students were admiaed to the Department. In the 1960’s, the science and technology in surveying and mapping and geodesy grown dras-tically due to the development of data processing and mapping systems using au- tomatic or computer technology. This encouraged the emergence of dis-course geode,c into science and technology called “Geo-Informatics”. Thus, the current geodetic science is not just talking about the shape and size of the

Earth but also in geospatial information technology. General target field of Geo-Informatics is the avail-ability of basic data and basic maps of various scale, supported by integrated infrastructure and facilities field of surveying and mapping as well as the man-agement and presentation of geospatial data using information technology. Consequently, in the 2006 the Depart- ment of Geodetic Engineering was re-named to Department of Geomatics Engineering. Currently, Department of Geomatics En-gineering has five laboratories i.e Geospatial, Geo-detic and Surveying, Geomarine, Geodynamic & En-vironment, and Cadastre and Land Policy. In 2009, the Department extended the education program by opening Posgraduate course in Geomatics. The Postgraduate program has four main course i.e. Geomatics, Geophysics, Geology and Geography.
