FC-ES is a global network of professional engineering associations involved in the climate change agenda
Core aim is to develop national energy and climate plans aligned with the IPCC’s scenario to keep the global average temperature increase below 2°C Energy infrastructure, energy efficiency
Collaboration between engineering associations, government and industry stakeholders to implement national plans
FC-ES is comprised of 23 countries worldwide
2015 United Nations Climate Change
Conference, COP21
Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs)
Future Climate – Engineering Solutions
• Engineering community involved in how to address climate change
• Science-based plans to influence policy-making
• National plans are strategies to define “HOW” to accomplish
the INDCs
• INDCs reflect the countries’ ambitions post-2020 for addressing climate change
• 152 INDCs submitted, reflecting 179 countries, covering 94% of greenhouse gas emissions in 2010 (Climate Action Tracker, November 2015)

CCS – a guide to future action
CCS is indispensable in a least-cost approach to global decarbonisation
Opportunities for cost reductions are being identified
The task is enormous – the urgency of CCS deployment is only
increasing
Deployment is not a technology challenge
CCS deployment is policy driven – policies that spur investment are the
missing pieces in the jigsaw
Supporting CCS in industrial applications and non-OECD countries is
very important
A plan of action for CCS – completing the jigsaw
Policy parity must be provided
This includes:
― Providing predictable and enduring policy arrangements
― Implementing effective and cost-efficient CCS law and
regulation
― Incentivising early storage site identification and
characterisation
― Re-doubling R&D efforts to reduce costs and increase efficiency
― Encourage efficient development of hub and cluster
arrangements

RENEWABLE ENERGY STRATEGIES
FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
• The single most important changes related to technology needed to deliver a low-carbon future:
“To understand that 100% Renewable Energy is possible globally”.

• Conversion to 100% renewable energy is a technical option within economic reach
• An integrated Smart Energy System design
can create a more robust and resilient system
• There is a potential for creating more jobs
than in a fossil fuel based energy system. • Much lower health related costs from
emissions can be achived.
