Intuit IV – An Automated Intravenous Catheter Device
The Problem?
• 150-200 million IV sticks annually in US w/30-50% first stick
misses.
• Can’t easily find & stick veins. • Unnecessary patient pain and costs.
The Solution?
• Small, hand-held, simple to use device to locate, target, and
access the vein, leaving behind the catheter for IV tubing
connection.
Status of Current MVP – 3 iterations in 2 months
(build/test/learn)
• A “proof of concept” to demonstrate end-to-end functionality.
• Improvements are known & achievable; risks ID’d with mitigation.
Our Advantage?
• Nothing currently on the market that fills this gap
• Nearest commercial “alternatives” are vein light systems. AccuVein, VeinViewer, Avena Glasses
• Efforts to invent similar devices are still in R&D.

Patient Safety Monitoring System
What is it?
Developed a system that monitors patient rooms and alerts clinic staff of
potential suicide conditions before they happen – particularly hangings
- Hot zones identified around doors and alarms trigger if patient loitering by
the door for a longer than normal period of time
- Motion and ligature attached to neck detection established and triggers
alarm if such motion or ligature is detected
- Display system at central nurses station linked to in-room sensors and
alarms at various states for conditions established – normal, yellow, red
Why did we build it?
– Prevention of suicides as well as extensibility into other health care and
safety related applications such as jails/prisons, residential treatment
centers, oil & gas production and refining, and manufacturing
Prototype Overview
• Developed a sensing, monitoring, warning and display system for
installation in patient rooms in psychiatric clinic to prevent suicides
• Utilizes imaging technology integrated with smart phone/tablet and/or
central display system with time triggered warnings for movements
and undesired locations within the room
• Allows for patient privacy by not utilizing a traditional camera –
shadowed figure – for psychiatric clinics – can be traditional camera
for jails/prisons as required
