It has been a lovely summer and everyone has returned with a healthy glow and lovely smiles. I have already received a warm welcome from parents, staff and children. I will be in the playground at the beginning and the end of the school day, I look forward to meeng you and geng to know you all. I already feel that I have arrived in a very special and happy school community. There will be an opportunity to meet informally with me during the Headteacher’s coffee morning and Headteacher’s aſternoon tea. Parents therefore will no longer have to pay for school meals for children in the infants. Parent Pay Parents of children in the juniors can now pay for school meals using Parent Pay. This can be done online using a very secure website called ParentPay. If you already have a ParentPay account, you can simply log in to that account and add your child. If you are new to ParentPay please contact Mrs. Henderson for your unique User name and Password. When you have done this, please visit www.parentpay.com to activate your account via the account login area to pay online. Parent Pay holds an electronic record of your payments to view at a later date. Once you have activated your account you can make online payments straight away. Paid School Meals The cost of school meals for this school year is £1.75 per day. These evenings are an opportunity for all parents to find out about the curriculum, educational changes and expectations of the school for their child. Children are welcome. Meetings are kept to 30 minutes. It is extremely important that all parents (a family representative 14yrs or older may attend) as a lot of information is shared and much discussion will take place. Even more helpfully you will get to meet mums and dads of your child’s classmates. Brixton Bolt 2014

Brixton Bolt returns to hold its third annual race competition. The roads of Brixton in South London will once again play host to a series of 100m races searching for the fastest men, women and children in town. The event will bring together Brixton’s diverse community in

honour of the fastest man in the world to find their own local legend. There will be a barbecue, face painting, music and photographers on

the day.

Date: Sunday 14th September 2014

Where: Pope’s Road (next to Brixton Recreation Centre).

Registration is from 12 midday, the first race is at 1pm. To register please send your name and age to [email protected] or alternatively turn up early on the day to guarantee entry. Race

categories range from under 3s to over 60s.

Race entry costs just £1 and is open to all Brixton residents, although all Londoners are invited to attend, support the crowd and celebrate a

SCHOOL UNIFORM

We will be returning to school in the autumn term. Our winter uniform consists of: Navy blue pinafore, skirt or culottes or long trousers. White school shirt or white/navy polo shirt. Navy, black or white socks or tights. Plain black sensible flat shoes (no trainers or boots). Navy jumper or cardigan or St Jude’s sweatshirt Coats and jackets must be suitable for school use. Capable of keeping children warm in cold weather, suitably dry

in rainy weather and suitable for wearing with a uniform They must be plain; no logo; emblems or patterns. No denim,

‘leather look’ or hoodies . Hats should be plain black, navy or blue.

All items need to be permanently labelled.

15 DAY HANDWRITING BLITZ

Yes it is that time of year again when we have our annual blitz on handwriting.

Everyday for 3 weeks your child will be taught:

how to form and join their letters;

how to sit correctly;

how to hold their pens and pencils correctly;

how to set out their work.

Our expectations are that:

Class 2 will correctly form all letters and numbers and are introduced to cursive writing;

All juniors will be able to write in pen in the slated ‘italic’ style in fluent cursive Jarman style writing.

HANDWRITING PENS: All juniors should provide their own fountain or gel pens (biros are not suitable). Please ensure that all pens are labelled with your child’s name.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Home learning is completed daily (5-10 minutes) and should be worked on collaboratively with children, parents and carers.

Home learning must be returned daily as the progress will be reviewed daily.

Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any queries.

Father’s Reading Every Day (FRED)

Congratulations, Mr Lotsu (Natalia - Class 2) for taking part

and winning the Fred prize draw. He received a £15

voucher to go towards purchasing more books.

St Jude’s behaviour policy includes 6 golden rules

which every child in the school ought to know.

Please take the opportunity to practice these rules

with your child at home.
