Think/Pair/Share The word “wiki” comes from the Hawaiian
word meaning “quick”. The first wiki was developed in 1994 by Ward
Cunningham. The most popular wiki is Wikipedia which is a
free content encyclopedia. How does Wikipedia work? Now, there are tens of thousands of wiki
websites! Image from Wikipedia

Terms and Conditions … “efficient, ethical and legal use of the
computer and network resources. If a Sun West School Division user violates any
of these provisions, his or her access could be terminated and future access may be denied.”
Violations … will be dealt through disciplinary action by the classroom teacher and subsequently by school administration

Acceptable Use The use of the Board’s computer systems
must be in support of education and research.
Transmission of any material in violation of any federal or provincial regulation is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to: copyrighted material, threatening or obscene material ….
If an inappropriate site is accidentally accessed, it is the user’s responsibility to make the supervising teacher aware.
![Page 9: Introduction to wikispaces](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022061220/54bbf1024a7959b3198b4592/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
The use of the computer system is a privilege.
Each student who accesses the Board’s computer systems will be part of a discussion with a staff member about the proper use of the system.
Principals will deem what is inappropriate use for students and their decision is final.
Also, senior division administrators may prevent access to a computer system any time as required.
Privileges

School administration may deny, revoke, or suspend specific student user access.
The Board expects teachers to monitor student access for which they are responsible. This may include random checks of files and/or e-mail to determine whether the systems are being used in a manner that is consistent with the educational goals of the Board.
Students and staff accepting access to Board computer systems must consent to such monitoring.
